As you travel this summer, we want to encourage you to find ways to stay connected to the church! Join us for worship when you are in town, but when you are traveling, find a faith community to worship with, take notes, and share with us what you most enjoyed about worshiping in a new place. Be in prayer for our church family. We have a lot of exciting things happening this summer and your prayers are greatly appreciated. There are many ways to give to the church; we know how hard it is to remember to give in the summer. 4 Page 4 Sally was an overly conscientious youngster who made herself miserable over the smallest failures & setbacks. Early one fall, while the leaves were still on the trees, there was an exceptionally heavy snowstorm. Sally s grandfather took her for a drive and said, Notice the elm trees, the branches are so filled with snow that they have become heavy. The branches will more than likely break and even perhaps cause the trees to die. But just look at those pine and evergreen trees. Even though their branches are weighted down with snow as well, their branches remain completely undamaged by the storm. An elm holds its branches rigid. As it becomes weighted down, eventually its limbs will break. But when an evergreen or a pine trees branches are weighted down, they simply relax, lowers their branches and lets the burden slip away. And so it remains unharmed. Be a pine tree granddaughter. Christ calls us to come to Him with our burdens, worries, and concerns. We don t have to live with all of our failures, frustrations, and burdens we don t need to carry our heavy loads alone. Christ wants us to cast off all of our fears, inhibitions and preoccupations that are preventing us from moving in the direction of wholeness of life. When we ask Christ to help us carry our burdens, they become replaced with the security of love, with the gentleness of compassion, with the tenderness of forgiveness. And when our lives become filled with love, compassion, and forgiveness, then we will be free to look around us and reach out with that same love to those who are hurting, to those who need our help in carrying the burdens of life. You and I have a choice. We can be like the elm tree and try to carry our burdens all by ourselves. Or, we can be like the pine tree and relax and let go of those things that tend to keep us from being. May we choose the pine tree so that we can move into the directions of wholeness. Each class is based on studies of particular scriptures and related topics. 2 Chronicles 7:14 - Library A class for adults of all ages. This class is doing a series on the Minor Prophets called Prone to Wander. Fellowship - Room 306 A class for adults in their senior years. They are currently doing a Bible Study of 1 Peter. Jim Mauldin is the leader of this class. Young Disciples Room 106 Parents of children of all ages are welcome to be a part of this class. They are studying 12 Ordinary Men a study on the Disciples. This Sunday the focus is on Thomas-the twin. Paula Brooks is the leader of this class. Genesis - Parlor A class for adults of all ages. The topic for Sunday is The Songs of Faith - Hymn Stories Keith Gibbons is the leader of this class.
