1 SUMMER 2018 Summer is upon us. The heat, the change of pace, and the traveling. PLUS...don t forget about the annual summer preaching series that invites us all to journey together through different parts of God's Word. This summer's series is called "Unsung Heroes". We know the names of many biblical heroes - Moses, Abraham, and Jesus - to name a few. But there are many more who help show us the ways of God. So this Summer we're invited to explore just some of those unsung heroes. Some will be familiar and some won't. But all hold lessons for us on true Christ-like heroism and ways to live as God calls us. Join the journey each Sunday in worship as you re able, knowing that summer often involves family vacations and weekend getaways. But you can still stay connected with our journey no matter what. How? Each Sunday both at worship as a handout as well as through a weekly , you ll receive the readings for the subsequent week. Take those readings on as a summer discipline and blessing to your life, digging into the story in advance each week as you re able. Is this required for you to enjoy and understand worship each Sunday? No. But know it will enrich and enliven your experience and bring it to a new level. PLUS...Interested in extending and deepening the conversation even further? Get connected with CCLC Plugged-In, an on-line discussion board to explore God's Word and dig in deeper. Plugged-In will be paralleling its conversation with our weekly readings this summer. Click here to get involved! SPECIAL SUMMER EDITION Don t miss all sorts of exciting opportunities this summer beyond Sunday mornings! There truly is something for EVERYONE as we journey together this summer, growing as a community whether we are near or far. Here are some of the highlights... If you have thoughts, questions, or concerns, they would love to hear from you directly and get to know you more. Feel free to reach out to them personally as you re able. Remember there are also monthly Fireside Chats with Council. It s an informal chance to visit with a couple members of council and occurs every month or so.

3 Take a break from the heat this summer and join in a special offering of togetherness and conversation and learning, sponsored by our Faith Formation Team. On the second Wednesday of each month, a different feature film will be shown with a discussion to follow. Films reflect our real life in some shape or form, so within this popular form of entertainment lay lessons to be learned and embraced. Come at 6:30 pm and bring a snack to share! Child care will be provided. June 13 Simon Birch A young boy with stunted growth believes God has a great purpose for him. July 11 Mom s Night Out A hardworking mom just needs a night out, but discovers much more. Aug 8 Coco An animated feature for the whole family to enjoy! August 9-10 Register SOON! $109 by 6/21 $139 after Think the Summit isn t for you? Consider the following... I m not a leader... We ALL have a part to play to LEAD people closer to Christ. Translation God calls ALL of us to be leaders. Therefore, we ALL have something to gain by attending. I can t afford to go There is clearly a cost to this event, but as a site partner you re able to attend at a significantly reduced rate $109 versus the full rate of $249! Scholarships are also available. Just speak to Pastor Jared privately. I don t have the time This event certainly asks something of your time...2 days...work days for many. Think of this event as an investment in yourself. It is the kind of thing that can bless you 100 fold of what you put into it your spiritual life, your personal life, your professional life. Register soon! See you at the summit! Summer Mission Challenge Part I Are you up to the challenge? Mission and Outreach wants your gently used items and challenges each family to bring 5 full black trash bags to us during the first two weeks of June. We will donate them to Savers, who gives money by weight if we meet a minimum number of pounds. Soft goods should be in the trash bags and hard goods in boxes. A detailed list of what is accepted can be found on our bulletin board. All funds raised will go to help our annual missions this fall. Summer Mission Challenge Part II We are once again encouraging each family to participate in a Summer of Serving! We want to see every family in our congregation find a service project to work on together this summer. It can be as simple as cleaning out parts of your home and donating unneeded items, or as challenging as serving a meal as a family for Cosgrove Soup Kitchen one Saturday morning; wherever and however the Holy Spirit leads your family. We are not defining family, or dictating what the chosen mission project should be. However, we do ask that after the mission is completed, your family fills out a short and simple card that we will provide, and then post on our bulletin board. The card can be anonymous if you prefer. As we give our thanks to God, let us remember what it says in 1 Peter 4:10 : As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God s varied grace: We are excited to see where this challenge takes our congregation families! Summer Mission Challenge Part III This summer, keep an eye on our bulletin board! Vacation Bible School will have an exciting mission to help folks in Puerto Rico, and it s never too early to start collecting school supplies for needy children to use this fall!
