3 The OKWU Mission As an evangelical Christian university of The Wesleyan Church, Oklahoma Wesleyan University models a way of thought, a way of life, and a way of faith. 6 Tips to Help You Thrive and Survive Your Freshmen Year of College Get organized; find an ideal place for you to study Get to know your professors and advisor; go to all orientations and classes Keep in contact with your advisor prior to the start of school. Don't feel pressured to make a hasty decision about a career or a major Read Learn to cope with homesickness Don t procrastinate; prioritize your life Get involved on campus Stay healthy / Eat right

8 Parents and Students Parents: Let your student take responsibility for making calls to the University to get questions answered for registering, etc. Parents: Educate yourself on FERPA. If your student is a dependent while in school, you have the right to access his/her academic record Students: Use your parents as an accountability partner Students: Don t wait too long before acknowledging that you need help Students: Don t assume your habits will change because you are in college.

12 CLEP College-Level Examination Program CLEP is the most widely accepted credit-by-examination program in the United States today, helping students of all ages earn college degrees faster by getting credit for what they already know. Tests offered: e.g. College Algebra, History, Comp 1, Literature Cost: $85 Time limit: Typically 90 minutes

17 Perks of Living On-Campus Laundry Free on-campus laundry for all OKWU students Flat Screen Television with Cable Access Available in all common areas and lobbies High Speed Wifi Available everywhere on OKWU campus Housekeeping All public areas are maintained by OKWU Buildings and Grounds (B&G)

18 Housing and Roommates Occupancy Policy: The residence halls at OKWU (with the exception of Wesley Hall) are reserved for triple occupancy. This means that most students on campus will have two roommates and receive a discounted room rate. If space permits, double occupancy will be offered by seniority. Housing and Roommate Assignments: Housing and roommate assignments will be sent out via by the first week of August. We encourage you to contact your roommate(s) and introduce yourself!

19 Important Dates to Remember Fall Semester 2017 Move-In: Saturday, August 12, 2017 (New Student Orientation) Leave for Christmas Break: 24-Hours after last final exam You do not need to bring all possessions home in December Spring Semester 2018 Return from Christmas Break: Sunday, January 14, 2018 Spring Break & Easter: March and March 30 th - April1st Move-Out: 24-hours after last final exam or by Saturday, May 12 at 5:00 pm You will need to bring all possessions home in May

20 Just FYI Renters Insurance Is encouraged in case of loss, damage, theft, etc. Storage Limited storage is available for student suitcases, small boxes, containers, etc. Open House OKWU residence halls are not co-ed Your dorm room is available to guests of the opposite gender Sunday 1:00 pm 8:00 pm Tuesday 8:00 pm 10:00 pm Thursday 8:00 pm 10:00 pm

33 the orange movement The Orange Movement was born out of our love for Jesus Christ, in honor of God's Word, as we seek His Truth and not our own, to work to promote healing and wholeness in a broken culture and hurting world. A student ministry of Oklahoma Wesleyan University Our Mission: Holy hearts should result in holy lives and that holy men and women should seek to bring an end to social evils such as slavery. ~ Orange Scott Awareness We want students to know and understand what human trafficking is, how it affects us, and how they can be part of the cure. Through awareness activities and events, students can learn what is taking place in the U.S. and internationally. We will provide ways to learn through films, speakers, literature, and more. Movement A Movement gives students the opportunity to be an active voice for those who have no voice. Throughout this semester we will engage in events, fundraising campaigns and learning opportunities that will give students the chance to put feet to action. We are a College Chapter of the International Justice Mission and key supporters of a rescue home (Rahab House) in SE Asia. Prayer Prayer will be an integral part of all that we do, both for the trafficked and the traffickers and our own efforts to make an impact.
