4 GOSPEL LESSON Luke 4: Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. 3 The devil said to him, If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread. 4 Jesus answered, It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone. 5 The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. 6 And he said to him, I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. 7 If you worship me, it will all be yours. 8 Jesus answered, It is written: Worship the Lord your God and serve him only. 9 The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. If you are the Son of God, he said, throw yourself down from here. 10 For it is written: He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully. 11 they will lift you up in their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. 12 Jesus answered, It is said: Do not put the Lord your God to the test. 13 When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time. Ephesians 1:4-7,9-11 NLT 4 Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. 5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. 6 So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. 7 He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. 9 God has now revealed to us his mysterious will regarding Christ which is to fulfill his own good plan. 10 And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ everything in heaven and on earth. 11 Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.

8 Adult Christian Education Opportunities Today Pastor Fred will begin a Lenten series based on Max Lucado s book, He Chose the Nails. Starting March 17, the Adult Sunday School class will begin a Lenten 5-week series by Max Lucado called He Chose the Nails. Each week is a stand-alone DVD short lesson with a time for discussion afterwards. The class starts right after church service and coffee hour (approx. 11:15 am and lasts about an hour). The class is open to all and is a rewarding way to experience Lent with good teaching and wonderful friends. Plan to join us. Questons?
