Prof. Kabiru further called on universities to ensure that research done by the universities reach those in the practice so that the knowledge can be utilized. On his part the MD and CEO, Family Bank Kenya, Mr. Peter Munyiri said Family Bank was looking for a partner who is aligned to their core values and a team that can coach and mentor its managers. 3 Daystar Alumni South Sudan chapter urged to foster integrity and humility in leadership Daystar University Alumni of South Sudan, who attended the dinner. Daystar University Alumni in South Sudan have been urged to promote integrity and humility in leadership, as they serve their nation. This was said by Rev. Ben Waigo, Deputy Director for Policy Planning and Institutional Development at the Directorate of Vocational Training, Ministry of Labour, Public Service and Human Resource Development, during a dinner organized by Daystar University alumni, to celebrate graduation of four of their own, from UK universities. Speaking at the event, Rev Waigo said he was impressed by the idea of intellectuals meeting and sharing together. He encouraged the group to continue with the spirit of unity, and further challenged them to continue to offer service to the nation, with humility. The event which was held at Notos Hotel in Juba was attended by a considerable number of Daystar University alumni. The four, Aligo Manasseh Khamis, David Deng Maker, Amilia Omot and Peter de Kwot graduated from various universities in the UK. Aligo and David Maker won the prestigious Chevening Scholarships in 2012 and 2014 respectively, while the two others benefited from other scholarship programmes. On his part the Country Director, Alarm South Sudan, Rev. James Baak, who is also the Vice Chair of Daystar University South Sudan Alumni chapter, revealed that plans are underway to establish a scholarship fund and expand networking among the group members in South Sudan. Abbass Matayo, also a Daystar alumnus and head of a department at Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), South Sudan urged the group to invest in enterprising opportunities in the country, to create jobs opportunities. Also speaking at the event was the chairperson of the Daystar Alumni Association South Sudan chapter, Rev. John Chol Daau. He congratulated the graduands for taking the challenge of pursuing higher education. We have gathered here to celebrate the success of our brothers who have taken the challenge to further their education and have returned to take part in the process of nation building, he said. Rev Daau said there are over 100 Daystar University alumni spread all over the country, and strategically placed in high positions in NGOs, the government, Church and Para- Church organizations. Daystar alumni in South Sudan had their first reunion meeting in August 2013, where over 50 alumni came together to celebrate the appointment of two of their members as ministers in the government of South Sudan. It was in this meeting that the chapter was officially launched. One of the goals of the chapter is to support the initiative of Daystar University to extend its courses in collaboration with South Sudanese institutions.

5 Library Update Newly acquired print titles now available in the library Attacking Poverty in the Developing World: Christian Practitioners and Academics in Collaboration by Judith M. Dean The needs of the poor in developing countries for more productive and satisfying ways to earn their living and for better nutrition, education and health care are tremendous. God in his grace moves his people to contribute money, skills and other resources to meet these needs, often through the work of Christian development organizations. But the resources available are limited, and the call to exercise good stewardship over them is pressing. This book equips Christians with skills for thoughtful stewardship : the application of God-given analytical abilities in making the most of the limited resources available. Faith and Wealth: A History of Early Christian Ideas on the Origin, Significance, and Use of Money by Justo L. Gonzalez Ideas pertaining to economics and social order were central concerns of the early Christian church, yet modern theologians and scholars have paid little or no attention to these issues as important theological questions. This brilliant and thorough study is a history of the views that Christians held of the origin, significance and use of wealth. Justo Gonzalez examines early Christian ideas, beliefs and teachings about the use of money, property, communal sharing and the rights and obligations of rich and poor. Beyond Sex Roles: What the Bible Says about a Woman s Place in Church and Family by Gilbert Bilezikian This biblical and theological study offers an accessible examination of the key texts of Scripture pertinent to understanding female roles, affirming full equality of the sexes in family and church. The author avoids using scholarly jargon and complex argumentation in the main text of the book to encourage readers to interact with the biblical research. The aim is for nonspecialized readers to be able to follow his discussion step by step, evaluate arguments, consider alternative views, and arrive at independent conclusions. Jesus Have I Loved, but Paul? : A Narrative Approach to the Problem of Pauline Christianity by J. R. Daniel Kirk Readers of the Bible are often drawn to Jesus s message and ministry, but they are not as positively inclined toward Paul. What should people who love Jesus do with Paul? Here Pauline scholar J. R. Daniel Kirk offers a fresh and timely engagement of the debated relationship between Paul s writings and the portrait of Jesus contained in the Gospels. He integrates the messages of Jesus and Paul both with one another and with the Old Testament, demonstrating the continuity that exists between these two foundational figures.
