The Book is a philosophical endeavour that intends to present facets of our age: pluriform and postmodern. It is a summation of different scholarly articles by various contributors, wherein each contributor has exhibited his/her thoughtprovoking insights in relation to the subject. Basic of Christian Theology: Traditional & Contemporary / Amit Thomas xiv, 166p., 23 cm. Bibliography Includes Index $ / HB 550 gm. 1. Theology 2. Theology - History Home of Love: A Short History of the Papal Seminary, Kandy-Pune ( ) / Merces de Melo Carlos, SJ xix, 164p.; 23 cm gm. Papal Seminary, one of the oldest Catholic Seminaries for the formation of priests, has a glorious history. Over the last 123 years it has been able to train thousands of priests, sisters and lay people. Until it was shifted to Pune, Papal Seminary (Papal Athenaeum) was catering almost exclusively to the Papal Seminarians. After it was shifted to Pune, it started accepting students from other religious congregations and lay men & Women also. Musings and Meanings: Hermeneutical Ripples... / Nishant Alphonse Irudayadason (ed) x, 211p., 23 cm. Mary Martin Booksellers Christianity - January 2017 Page 1

2 $ / HB 620 gm. This edited work titled "Musings and Meanings: Hermeneutical Ripples..." is the outcome of the international conference hosted in honor of two eminent veteran scholars Richard De Smet and Jean de Marneffe of the Faculty of Philosophy at Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth, Pune in January 2014 to dwell extensively on the art of understanding from both the Eastern and the Western perspectives. Tribal Theology: Reviewing the Naga Traditional Worldview / Lovely Awomi James Christian World Imprints, New Delhi 2017 xlvi, 201p., 23 cm. Includes Bibliography $ / HB 690 gm. 1. Womanist theology 2. Indigenous Women-India-Nagaland-Religion. 3. Naga (South Asian People)-India-Nagaland-Religion. Matthean Beatitudes In Socio-Historical Context: Their Implications for Contemporary Christian Discipleship / Vanlalchhawna Khiangte xxxvi, 311p. ; 24 cm. Bibliography Includes Index $ / HB 830 gm. This book presents a study of the Matthean Beatitudes (Matt 5:3-12) from socialhistorical perspective and their implications for contemporary Christian discipleship. The author meticulously investigated the socio-historical background of the Matthean community at first instance, and then has done an exegetical study on the Matthean Beatitudes (Matt 5:3-12) using the historical critical method as the main tool. Also, he has employed insights on the socio-historical experience of the Matthean community for drawing exegetical conclusions. The author concludes that the Matthean Beatitudes can be subsumed under the category of apocalyptic beatitudes. While the first, the second, the fourth, the eighth and the ninth beatitudes (Matt 5:3, 4, 6, 10, 11-12) mainly pronounce consolation to the suffering people of God (the Matthean community); the third, the fifth, the sixth and seventh beatitudes (Matt 5:5, 7, 8, 9) carry ethical exhortation too. This scholarly work not only fills an important gap in Matthean studies by refocusing on the importance of these prefatory beatitudes in St. Matthew's gospel, but it does so from the vantage point of the wider hermeneutical perspective provided by contemporary New Testament investigations. Old Testament Theology: History, Issues, and Perspectives / Kondasingu Jesurathnam x, 354p., 23 cm. Bibliography Includes Index $ / HB 840 gm. Mary Martin Booksellers Christianity - January 2017 Page 2

3 Contextually, Old Testament (OT) has always been a popular part of the Holy Bible among the common people in India. In order to avoid a lot of misconceptions on the reception and use of the OT in India, the Present research makes a detailed study on the history of the discipline of the Old Testament Theology right from the Nineteenth century of the Christian era. Paul's Identity in Galatians: A Postcolonial Appraisal / Roji T George xix, 308p., 23 cm. Bibliography Includes Index $ / HB 830 gm. In this book, George rejects articulating an essentialised identity of Paul in Hellenistic or Jewish background as done through the Christian centuries by Paul's interpreters. With his lucid, precise, and cogent argumentation, George articulates Paul's postcolonial identity in nonessentialist, transcultural hybrid, and 'impure' terms. He argues that the apostle occupied a cultural-political interstitial space between the Jewish, Hellenistic, and Roman cultures from where he spoke in 'forked tongue' subverting, simultaneously, all the three cultures. The Emerging Challenges to Christian Mission Today: Revisioning Mission from Religious, Cultural, Historical & Women Perspectives / S.M. Michael SVD & Jose Joseph SVD (ed) ix, 296p. ; 23 cm $ / HB 720 gm. Today, in the globalized world, the mission of the Church is challenged by many external and internal forces. It faces the challenges of Secularization and the revitalization of Faith. In Asia, Christianity remains a minority religion; its members are under pressure from governments and other faiths. In some countries, Christianity, even faces the threat of extinction. Burning, destruction and closure of churches is not uncommon. Philosophizing the Body: Physical, Social, Psychosomatic & Spiritual Dimensions / Nishant Alphinse Irudayadason (ed) xii, 252p., 23 cm $ / HB 710 gm. A contradiction about the body runs through our culture. On the One hand it is highly valued; the ambient materialism attests to it. But, on the other hand, it is relativized as regards its ontological status, anthropoloogical significance and ethical implications. The substantive Challenge is to articulate what mind and body means. The human being is the articulation of these two realities. Two dangers now lurk in all walks of life including our everyday discourse: mind without body and body without mind. Jesus Beyond Borders: Towards a 'Glocal' Christology / Samuel George xiv, 339p., 23 cm. Includes Bibliography Mary Martin Booksellers Christianity - January 2017 Page 3

4 $ / HB 870 gm. This book addresses the fundamental twin-foci of Christology, i.e., Divinity and Humanity of Jesus, the Christ and its relevance to christologizing. In the study of Christology, there is always the tendency to adhere to either of the two. There are very few attempts to find an integrated path, a middle-way. Christology in Context: A Tribal-Indigenous Appraisal of North East India / Yangkahao Vashum Christian World Imprints, New Delhi 2017 xxxiii, 222p., 23 cm. Bibliography Includes Index $ / HB 700 gm. One theological theme that requires serious consideration is a contextualized Christology. Too many tribal people envision Jesus in terms of the portrayals presented by the Euro-American missionaries. Indigenous people continue to imagine Jesus as fair skinned, blond or red-headed, and blue eyed. This book attempts to construct a contextual Indigenous Christology that is revealed in Naga cultural Values and metaphors. The Cultural Compromise: An Application of the Hegelian Dialectic to the Churchcultural Interface / Warren G.Ison xxii, 182p. ; 22cm includes index, bibliography gm. Christian Music: Contemporary & Traditional, for a Meaningful Worship of the Kukis / Paolen Haokip xx, 111p. ; 22cm $ / HB 420 gm. 7 xxxviii, 271p. ; 23cm. and index $ / HB 680 gm. Asian Christology De-Routing the Classical and Re-Rooting the Contextual / Jacob Mathew xxiv, 169 p. ; 22 cm. and index gm. Christianity is a journey of faith and not a destination. It is a journey of knowing Jesus Christ, who is the very substance and core of Christian faith, in a most knowable and coherent way possible. In this context, the Bible provides the basis for this knowledge in the form of facts and guidelines which together form the doctrine of Christ, also called as Christology. The author here attempts to formulate an Asian Christology in line with the thoughts of Fr. Tissa Balasuriya. Late Fr. Tissa Balasuriya was a leading and also one of the earliest interpreters of Christ from an Asian perspective. Balasuriya was critical to the western, traditional, classical interpretations of Christ that were indifferent and ignorant to the contextual realities of Asia. This scholarly research provides a lucid picture of how Asians respond and interpret Christ in terms of their context. The author takes Balasuriya's model of interpretation to provide what could be the basic thrust of Asian Christology. In the Asian context, Jesus Christ is divine because he is human and he is human because he is divine. Hence, to make it brief, Christology from below must start with Jesus Christ who is very much from the people and for the people. Indeed, this makes God's incarnation in Christ more meaningful and beautiful. Accordingly, Jesus is not only the son of God, but also had the human face. The author concludes by saying that Asian Christology towards the 21st century is a Christology `from below', and that Jesus of Nazareth was at the same time a Historic person, Liberator and Cosmic Christ. 8 410 gm. Indian Christianity: An Alternate Reading / Roger E. Hedlund xxvi, 181 p. ; 22 cm. and index $ / HB 480 gm. The book projects the rich heritage of Indian Christianity covering a vast period of first to the twenty-first century. The author has a meticulous projection in detailing the historical scenario by selecting and describing the most significant events, the key figures and developments in the history of the church in India. An important contribution of this book is that instead of beginning with the socalled `great traditions'- those of the elite hierarchical, and the professional officialdom of the church, the author looks at the `little tradition'. This is what he means by the alternate reading. In this book one will find references to sources that reflect expressions `from below'. This historiography from below pays attention to the empirical data drawn from participants in the drama. It acknowledges the complexity of Indian Christianity and honours the multiple cultural identities of the church in India. The book is clearly written in a readable style and makes a valuable resource for teachers and students of church history, and for all those who are interested in learning about the Indian Church. 10 This book seriously researches the significance of theological education in the pluralistic context of Asia and particularly India. It vividly recalls the historical development of theological education under different denominations and different periods. In particular detail, it analyses the history of the Senate of Serampore College/University (SSC), its curriculum and its role in fostering ecumenism in India through theological education. It critically exposes the indispensable need of interdependent and networking relationship between theological education and the ministry of the church in order to make our theological education relevant, contextual, transforming and thus meaningful for the people and the context that we are to serve. In connection to that, the book strongly emphasized the need for designing the entire system and structure of our theological education along embracing and ecumenical lines so that it fittingly relates and responds to India's pluralistic context and the many challenging facets that form India's uniqueness as well as its complex nature. This book is a `must-have' for all theological teachers, institutions, students, church leaders and laity as well, for wider understanding of the ecumenical theological education in India in general and the SSC system of theological education in particular.
