2 T HE TIDINGS P AGE 2 From the Pastor, to my Partners,... Just about everyone I know has a dream that goes something like, "I'd love to be younger again, but with all the wisdom and knowledge that I have now." Now God can make that dream come true! And right here at Christ Lutheran Church! Those who have participated in Camp Hope or attended a Youth Gathering or even taught Sunday School know what I mean. Working with young people as they develop their faith lives can open some very interesting adventures. And you'll use every bit of your acquired skills and knowledge staying young with them! Opportunities abound for these life-changing experiences. The Camp Hope Encouragement and Support Team (CHEST) will meet soon to review the recent camp, and start planning a new and enriching time for next summer. Sunday School classes will begin planning very soon. We have opportunities to reach out to new kids, as well as our own, this Fall. And we have several different ways you can become involved, including teaching a class or simply helping plan programs or set up skits and dramas. The Youth Group will soon begin preparing for the next ELCA Youth Gathering - in Detroit in July, They also have lots of activities to work on now - and they could use a good leader for their Sunday School time. Working with kids and young people in these ministries makes us excited about "the church of tomorrow!" We can't wait to see how they grow and mature into active, faithful Christians! But wait! We have forgotten a very big part of all of this - the main part, actually. These kids and young people are the church of today! When we take time to participate with them and engage them and become involved not only in their ministries but also in their lives, we begin to see the reality of Christ alive among us, here and now! Find out how you can stay young, and use all the skills and knowledge you've gained - discover the active and rewarding world of ministry with kids and young people - the church of today! God s peace, Pastor Paul Geisler I will pour out my spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. Even on the male and female slaves, in those days, I will pour out my spirit. Joel 2:28-29
3 P AGE 3 ISSUE #302 Worship & Music Notes Summer Schedule Continues through August! Worship times: 5:00pm, 9:00am. Our last Summer Saturday/Sunday worship will be August 24 th & 25 th. We will return to our 8:00am & 10:30am services on Sunday, September 1 st. Throughout our summer schedule we will offer frequent fellowship opportunities, either on Saturday or Sunday after worship. Plan to join in and celebrate our community in Christ as we enjoy the company of those who join us in worship here. Time After Pentecost Time after Pentecost is a long season of learning. It is taking the mission of Christ who did all things in LOVE and did all things to foster God s kingdom here on this planet. Entrusting his people (and that means us) to serve one another in both big and small ways, is the command and the expectation. Our readings speak of growth and going both things easily represented by the Pentecost Season s color of green. Aug. 3 rd & 4 th. Sometimes life can be overwhelming. In our lessons for today, Paul speaks of a radical reorientation of our values, and the gospel reminds us that we are to value our relationship with God more than our possessions or status. Aug. 10 th & 11 th. Have no fear, little flock! We are to trust as Abraham and Sarah trusted. We are entrusted in taking our faith to higher levels as we serve to create God s kingdom here on earth. Aug. 17 th & 18 th. In the reading from Hebrews, we hear of rich stories of faith, in which there are examples of trust. In Luke s gospel reading, Jesus lets us know that following Him can sometimes be difficult. When things are most difficult, that s when trust sees us through. Aug. 24 th & 25 th. As we continue in Hebrews, we are reminded of a new promise in Christ into which we are invited. Luke s gospel recounts the story of Jesus healing a woman on the Sabbath and the uproar it created. In all our readings this month, we find that although it was written over two thousand years ago, the lessons we need to hear and learn have not changed. Spent time in God s word. We always have a place to use your gift of music in worship. Just let Pastor Paul know what you d like to do and when! Yep, it s just that easy!

Anyone interested is invited! 24 Christi Matteck 30 Ruby Brown Bread for Life Study Group We have no leader, we have no homework, and we have no tests. We do have chocolate! Wednesday s, 1:30pm 2:30pm in the church library. We discuss the readings for the upcoming Sunday. Copies of the appropriate Daily Discipleship are usually on the library table. Join us on our journey and let s read and study together. If you d like a study copy in advance, go to the ELCA website and type Daily Discipleship in the search. In case anyone is wondering who the best pie bakers are at Christ Lutheran, the results are in. Thank you to our expert judges, Don White, Dave Naill, and Mark Jessop. They had a tough job but with repeated samples which they had no trouble doing, they narrowed it down to the top three. The winners were Louise Humes - 1st place (she won the $100,000 dollar prize) Patty Northam - 2nd place Agnes Harris - 3rd place In addition to their wonderful prizes, they each were awarded a prize-winning medal. It was an evening of delicious food, fellowship and fun. Sunday Night Sports this coming Sunday Aug 4th between 6 and 8 pm in our gym. Besides all the sports there will be domino and card games.
