Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church Asheville, North Carolina March 2, :30 am Youth Sunday Unexpected travel suggestions are dancing lessons from God. Kurt Vonnegut Jr. Youth Ensemble Voluntary * Call to Worship Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth. Serve the Lord with gladness; come before God with joyful singing. Know that the Lord is God; it is God who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are God s people and the sheep of God s pasture. Enter the Lord s gates with thanksgiving, and God s courts with praise. Give thanks to the Lord; bless God s name. For the Lord is good; The Lord s loving kindness is everlasting, and faithfulness is for all generations.

* Hymn Come, Now is the Time to Worship * Call to Reconciliation

* Prayer of Confession Loving God, we have grown frightened by things that feel like more than we can handle; please hear these prayers of our hearts and souls. Forgive us when we rest on our own understanding. Forgive us for believing that we know best - that our plans and desires are sufficient guides. Help us have the ears to hear your call and the eyes to welcome your surprising, amazing grace that we may dwell in your wisdom and knowledge. Help us to experience your kingdom, our home, with the eyes of a child that we might see this world that you love again, for the first time. Amen. * Assurance of Forgiveness Hear the Good News: No matter how old or how young, we are all God s children. God is forever conspiring to surprise us with joy and love. God s forgiveness dwells in our hearts; Christ s love calls us; the Spirit s peace guides our steps. Thanks be to God! * Response Agnus Dei Alleluia, Alleluia For the Lord God Almighty reigns Alleluia, Alleluia For the Lord God Almighty reigns Alleluia Holy Holy are You Lord God Almighty Worthy is the Lamb, Worthy is the Lamb You are holy * Passing of the Peace The Peace of Christ be with you. And also with you. Prayer for Illumination Luke Shealy Psalter The Word of the Lord Thanks be to God! John 11:1-14

* Hymn Open the Eyes of My Heart Gospel The Word of the Lord Thanks be to God! Luke 10: Sermon Expect the Unexpected Caroline Parker Mark Tierney Silent Meditation

* Hymn Will You Come and Follow Me

* Affirmation of Faith (from 2011 GCPC Confirmation Class) We believe that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are one. We believe in an exciting and interactive God. We believe that the church is a home away from home, where people can experience peace with God and others. The church is a place where all of God s people are accepted. We believe that baptism is a sign of entrance into God s church family. We believe in the power of prayer. Prayer is a way of communicating with God, anywhere, anytime. It is both a personal and a corporate experience, a time to can express our praises, concerns, and thanksgivings. We believe we have eternal life because Jesus lived and died for us. We believe that, as Christians, we need to accept all people and religions while, at the same time, seek to serve and inspire others by sharing the hope we have in God. We believe that, though there are bad things in the world, God has power to work through these bad things. God provides comfort, teaches us to forgive, and hears our prayers. God gives us the chance to help others in the midst of these hard times. We believe that no matter what happens, God is for us, Always supporting us in both bad times and good. Amen. Our Life Together (Please sign the Friendship Pad located in your pew) SERVE Moment Tracee Laing Healing Art Mission Offering (Please place prayer cards in the offering plate for the Prayers of the People) Prayer of Dedication Offertory Canticle of Turning * Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Holy Spirit evermore; Praise Triune God whom we adore. On March 9, 16 and 23 the platform at the front of the sanctuary will be extended into the center aisle and will feature the baptismal font. The Table and pulpit will be in the center of the existing platform. Chairs will be arranged to face the platform extension. On March 30, April 6 and 13 the platform extension will be in a triangular shape. The Table and pulpit will be brought forward and chairs will be set in angled rows along the triangle. As we engage in these experiments, the Calvin Committee wants to hear how the arrangement of worship space affects worshipers.
