2 Welcome to Trinity! We extend a warm welcome to those visiting Trinity. Please make sure to pick up a Welcome Packet available from our greeters or ushers as you enter church. Please take a moment to complete one of the connection cards in the pew rack in front of you. After Service and Worship, join us for coffee & refreshments in the Parish Hall next door to the church! Restroom A restroom is located to the right as you enter the church, to the left as you exit. Nursery Kids of all ages are welcome to attend the service, however infants and toddlers may be more comfortable in the nursery, located downstairs in the Parish House next door to the worship area. The ushers or greeters can accompany you to the nursery. Children s Chapel Children s Chapel is provided for children three years of age and older. Children s Chapel, located near the nursery on the first floor of the parish house, includes age-appropriate songs, prayers and lessons. These children are escorted back to the worship area in time to share Holy Communion with their parents and the rest of the adult congregation. Please note that the parish house doors are locked during service. Should you need access to the nursery or children s chapel during the service, please see an usher or greeter, or ring the buzzer outside the office doors and someone will be available. O God, the strength of all who put their trust in you: Mercifully accept our prayers; and because in our weakness we can do nothing good without you, give us the help of your grace, that in keeping your commandments we may please you both in will and deed; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. All sit. First Reading Jeremiah 17:5-10 Thus says the LORD: Cursed are those who trust in mere mortals and make mere flesh their strength, whose hearts turn away from the LORD.

5 They shall be like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see when relief comes. They shall live in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land. Blessed are those who trust in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. They shall be like a tree planted by water, sending out its roots by the stream. Second Reading 1 Corinthians 15:12-20 Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, then our proclamation has been in vain and your faith has been in vain. We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified of God that he raised Christ--whom he did not raise if it

6 is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised. If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have died in Christ have perished. If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. And all in the crowd were trying to touch him, for power came out from him and healed all of them. Then he looked up at his disciples and said: Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you will be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you on account of the Son of Man. 7 Presentation of Candidate The says The Candidate for Holy Baptism will now be presented. The Parents and Godparents say We present Margaret Worthington Blake to receive the Sacrament of Baptism. The then continues Will you be responsible for seeing that the child you present is brought up in the Christian faith and life? Parents and Godparents I will, with God s help. Will you by your prayers and witness help this child to grow into the full stature of Christ? Parents and Godparents I will, with God s help. Then the asks the following questions of the parents and godparents who speak on behalf of the infant Question Answer Do you renounce Satan and all the spiritual forces of wickedness that rebel against God? 8 The then says Let us join with those who are committing themselves to Christ and renew our own baptismal covenant. Baptismal Covenant Do you believe in God the Father? I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Will you continue in the apostles teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers? I will, with God s help. Will you persevere in resisting evil, and, whenever you fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord? I will, with God s help. Will you proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ? I will, with God s help. Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself? I will, with God s help.

9 Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being? I will, with God s help. Prayers for the Candidate The then says to the people Let us now pray for this person who is to receive the Sacrament of new birth and for those who have renewed their commitment to Christ. The says Grant, O Lord, that all who are baptized into the death of Jesus Christ your Son may live in the power of his resurrection and look for him to come again in glory; who lives and reigns now and forever. 10 We thank you, Almighty God, for the gift of water. Over it the Holy Spirit moved in the beginning of creation. Through it you led the children of Israel out of their bondage in Egypt into the land of promise. In it your Son Jesus received the baptism of John and was anointed by the Holy Spirit as the Messiah, the Christ, to lead us, through his death and resurrection, from the bondage of sin into everlasting life. We thank you, Father, for the water of Baptism. In it we are buried with Christ in his death. By it we share in his resurrection. Through it we are reborn by the Holy Spirit. Therefore in joyful obedience to your Son, we bring into his fellowship those who come to him in faith, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. At the following words, the touches the water Now sanctify this water, we pray you, by the power of your Holy Spirit, that those who here are cleansed from sin and born again may continue forever in the risen life of Jesus Christ our Savior. The Baptism Candidate is presented by name to the, who then immerses, or pours water upon, the candidate, saying Margaret, I baptize you in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Then the Priest places a hand on the person s head, marking on the forehead the sign of the cross and saying Margaret, you are sealed by the Holy Spirit in Baptism and marked as Christ s own forever. Amen. A candle (which may be lighted from the Paschal Candle) is presented to each of the newly baptized or godparent, the Priest saying Margaret, receive the light of Christ, a sign of the new life enkindled within you. When this action has been completed for all the candidates, the Priest, at a place in full sight of the congregation, prays over them, saying Let us pray. Heavenly Father, we thank you that by water and the Holy Spirit you have bestowed upon these your servants the forgiveness of sin, and have raised them to the new life of grace. Sustain her, O Lord, in your Holy Spirit. Give them an inquiring and discerning heart, the courage to will and to persevere, a spirit to know and to love you, and the gift of joy and wonder in all your works. Amen. When all have been baptized, The then says Let us welcome the newly baptized. and We receive you into the household of God. Confess the faith of Christ crucified, proclaim his resurrection, and share with us in his eternal priesthood. After the Baptism, the Clergy and process back to their places.

Holy Communion The says Walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself for us, an offering and sacrifice to God. Ephesians 5:2 Collection of Offerings Representatives of the congregation bring the people s offerings of bread and wine, and money or other gifts, to the deacon or celebrant. The people stand while the offerings are presented and placed on the Altar. Today is the third Sunday of the month and all offerings, otherwise undesignated, go toward the Rector s discretionary fund. Friday, March 22 Trinity Travelers will attend the Nashville Symphony Coffee Concert. We will leave Trinity at 8:15 am to arrive for coffee and pastry at Schermerhorn Symphony Hall. Downbeat for the concert is at 10:30 am. The concert will include Nights in the Gardens of Spain by Falla. Discount ticket price, for easily accessed seats, is $20. All tickets will be purchased by Brian Schafer, reservations must be made by Feb. 15 and payment to Brian by Feb. 22. We will ride-share, and riders will need to share in the $27 valet parking cost as well as gratuity. We will lunch at Monell s in Germantown after the concert.
