2 WORSHIP CELEBRATION February 3, 2019 Fourth Sunday after the Epiphany 10:15 a.m. Centering Words God has been with us and knew us before we were even born. The one who calls us to love has been loving us longer than we have drawn breath. Sink into the arms of love this day and trust the hand that holds you. Identifies time to stand, as you are able. PRELUDE God, Thy Great Goodness. V. Beethoven Jennifer Yang INTROIT My Hope is Built Sarah A Michal My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness. No. 368 I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus name. On Christ the solid rock I stand! All other ground is sinking sand. All other ground is sinking sand. CALL TO WORSHIP Rev. Dr. Brandon Cho Leader: Praise God from who all blessings flow. People: We are here to offer God our worship and praise. Leader: Before God formed you in your mother s womb, God knew you. People: Before we drew our first breath, God consecrated us in holy love. Leader: Let us worship the one who knows and loves us. People: Let us worship the one who is our rock and our fortress in times of trouble. Leader: Praise God from whom all blessings flow. People: We are here to offer God our worship and praise. OPENING HYMN Hope of the World No. 178 OPENING PRAYER (in unison) Matt Zeller Wrap us in the arms of your love, Holy One, as we gather in worship this day. Teach us to be patient and kind in our actions, and humble of heart in all of our ways. Help us see and know ourselves as well as you see and know us, that our words may be true and our love may be pure. Build us into a community that bears all things, believes all things, and hopes all things in the name of love, which never ends. Amen. (Please be seated.) CALL TO CONFESSION Jack Scharf PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in unison) God of truth and love, when we yearn for certainty in an uncertain world, remind us that we know only in part; when we long for others to see things our way, remind us that we see in a mirror dimly; when we seek to impose our ways upon others, remind us that we have failings of our own. Harken us to your voice once more, and reveal to us truths that you alone can see. In your holy name, we seek your guidance now. Amen. SILENT REFLECTION WORDS OF ASSURANCE Leader: The one who formed us in our mothers wombs looks upon us with love and seeks our highest good. Rejoice in the good news that we are fully known, and that we are loved with a love that heals all wounds and breaks down all barriers that lie between us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven and made whole. People: In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven and made whole! Thanks be to God. ANTHEM Praise Christ, Alleluia! Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen. HYMN Hymn of Promise No. 707 PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION (in unison) Matt Zeller Faithful God, as your word is proclaimed, we pray for purity of heart, mind, and action. Drink of the living water, eat of the bread of life, for this is the table of abundant love. Leader: Christ be with you. People: And also with you. Leader: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them up to the Lord. Leader: Let us give our thanks to the Holy One. People: It is right to give our thanks and praise. Leader: It is right, good and a joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, almighty God, creator of heaven and earth. In ancient days, you created us in your image, and called us to be your people. Even when we turned away and ignored your voice, you pursued us and called us:
5 through the proclamation of your law, the words of your prophets, and the wisdom of your poets and storytellers. In the fullness of time, you sent your Son, Jesus Christ to call us yet again: on the shores of Galilee, in crowded markets, and on dusty roads, inviting us to risk everything, and to place our trust in you. And so, with your people on earth, and all the company of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn, saying: People: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed in the one who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Leader: Holy are you and blessed in your Son, Christ Jesus. who called his disciples, even as he shared a final meal with them, calling one and all to remember and reflect when we eat of the bread and partake of the cup. Jesus took bread, broke it and said: Take, eat; this is my body given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. After supper, he took the cup and said: Drink from this, all of you. This is my life, poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. And so, in remembrance of your mighty acts of love and grace, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving As we proclaim the mystery of faith. People: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. Leader: Pour out your Holy Spirit on all of us gathered here, that we may answer your call and be your people. Pour out your Holy Spirit on these gifts of bread and wine, that they may nourish and strengthen us to go into deep waters when you call us to take a risk. By your Spirit, make us one with Christ, one with each other and one in ministry to all the world,
6 until Christ comes in final victory and we feast at your heavenly banquet. Through Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in your holy Church, all honor and glory is yours, almighty God, both now and forevermore. Amen.
