1 First Presbyterian Church 2230 Hariet St. Port Charlotte, FL Worship 10:00 a.m. (941) Rev. Terri Jo Crego January 27, 2019 Welcome to All We are delighted that you are here today and hope you have a meaningful worship experience. If you are worshipping with us for the first time, we extend a special welcome! Your presence is important to us, so we encourage you to fill out the Welcome Card and place it in the offering plate. Also, if you have a prayer need, please complete one of the Prayer Cards and place it in the offering plate or hand it to an usher. It will be our privilege to pray for you.
2 Welcome to First Presbyterian Church Preparation for Worship: As you enter the Sanctuary, please prepare your hearts and minds for worship and silence your mobile devices. The beginning of the prelude is a call to silent, personal preparation for the worship of God. May our worship open our hearts to God s love, our eyes to God s beauty, our minds to God s truth, and our will to God s service. Chimes GATHERING AROUND THE WORD Greetings The grace of the Lord, Jesus Christ be with you. And also with you. Let us prepare our hearts and minds for worship. Prelude There Is a Happy Land setting by George Shearing Welcome and Announcements Call to Worship Great is the Lord, he is holy and just, by his power, we trust in his love. Great is the Lord; he is faithful and true; by his mercy, he proves he is love. Great is the Lord and worthy of glory! Great is the Lord and worthy of praise! Great is the Lord! Now lift up your voice! We lift up our voices and say: Great is the Lord! Great is the Lord! Introit Great Is the Lord Chancel Choir Michael W. Smith *Please Stand, if able
3 Opening Prayer Great are you, O God, who fills us with purpose. Great are you, O God, who empowers us to serve. Great are you, O God, who weaves us together to be the Body of Christ to participate in your purpose. May our lives proclaim our praise through our song and our work and in the ways we serve your people. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen. *Passing of the Peace *Opening Hymn I Sing the Mighty Power of God Blue Hymnal #288 Invitation to Confession Prayer of Confession God of the prophets and God of your people today, throughout the ages, you have called us to serve the poor, to give sight to the blind, and to release the captive. Too often we sit on the sidelines, meandering in our own debt, blindness, and captivity. Too often we sit on the sidelines, waiting to have all the resources we need to make a difference and waiting for just the right day to make a difference. Forgive us. Empower us to serve. Empower us to see. And empower us to release that which holds us back from serving you and your people. Assurance of Pardon (Silent Prayer of Confession) Hear the Good News: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. God has forgiven us and continues to empower us to be whole, weaving us together as the Body of Christ to serve all of God s people. *Congregational Response Gloria Patri Blue Hymnal #579

9 Sing Out! Sound the Trumpets! Proclaim Jubilee! Sing out! Sound the trumpets! Proclaim jubilee! Through words from Isaiah, we came to be free; For blest by the Spirit, Christ read from that scroll, Proclaiming his mission: To make our lives whole. Refrain: Hear the word! Sing it out! It's good news to the poor! Christ has come! Let us shout! We are captive no more! Lost sight is restored, and God's world is set free: Christ came to our world to proclaim jubilee. But still, women struggle for lives free and fair, And children are hungry, and loved ones despair. Still, those long-oppressed or in prisons of fear Are longing to call this their jubilee year. Refrain O God, through your Christ you knelt down to the earth, And by your own Spirit, you give us new birth. May we as your church have a passion to share Your jubilee love with the world everywhere.
