I refuse to believe we are bound by racism, war, and injustice. I believe those around me are my brother and my sister. I believe in dignity every day and that our brokenness can be healed. I believe we can overcome oppression and violence, without resorting to it. This means I seek to reject revenge and retaliation. I remember, Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can. Michael is a fifthgeneration Presbyterian and is a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Farmington. In addition to serving as the Hands-on-Mission Coordinator for the Presbytery of Detroit, Michael was elected as the Young Adult Advisory Delegate to the 221st General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, USA. We hold in our prayers: Molly Avery Gray, Donn & Judy Denniston, Nan Flint, Barbara Howe, Shirley Kinsey, Deb Jackson Lum, Barbara Madany, Finn Roed, John Seilicki, Bob Tell, Gwen Tomkow, Mary Whittmore and Jean Winterbottom. We also hold in prayer those impacted by the government shutdown, recent storms, natural disasters, gun violence and terrorism, as well as those who put themselves in harm s way to assist them. We also remember members who are homebound, in nursing homes, and assisted living: Lincoln Avery, Doris Carmichael, Charlotte Fallis, John Flint, Bill Ford, Dorothy Garabedian, Helen Gage, Marge Gordon, Sue Hibbard, Betty Huffman, Don Kobman, Maryse Long, Mary Stevens, Yuvonne Stevens and Ruth Trombley. 4

It is hard to believe that this was our 12 th year hosting guests from South Oakland Shelter. We have learned so many things over the years about our guests. We have shared tears and laughter as we heard stories about their lives. We have shared our time and our hearts as we made our church a home for a week. It s been a church-wide effort and we thank everyone who helped make this ministry a success. These councils are funded by the Per Capita on each of our active members. For 2019, the Per Capita amount is $ (Of that, $8.95 supports the General Assembly; $3.25 supports the Synod of the Covenant; and $16.35 is for the Presbytery of Detroit.) As a church, we will be paying a total of $9, We ask that you contribute $28.00 for each member of your household confirmation age and above to help offset this amount.
