1 Bulletin #1525 August 19, 2018 From The Minister s Pen n today s religious world, there seems to I be an ever increasing idea that love is the only essential quality that man must possess in order to please God. Anyone who is acquainted with the Bible, knows that love, on man's part, is essential to pleasing God; but many do not seem to understand that love does not take the place of any requirement in the Bible. However, love IS important! LOVE GOD Men and women ought to love God. This is the great commandment. (Matt. 22:36-38). Men ought to love God because He first loved man. (John 3:16; 1 John 4:19). Man also should love God to be heir of His kingdom and to have the crown of life. (James 2:5; 1:12). Man shows his love for God by doing what God tells him to do. (1 John 5:3). LOVE CHRIST Men should also love Christ. (Matt. 10:37). He has shown His love for man. Remember what He did! Men should love Him in appreciation of what He did. Men show love for Christ by abiding in His instructions (John 15: 9-12). It is highly incompatible to talk about loving Christ and The Place of Love In Man s Salvation then talk about not having to do what He says (John 15:14). LOVE THE TRUTH Mankind is expected to love the truth God's word (John 17:17). A lack of this love caused the great apostasy foretold in the New Testament (2 Thess. 2:10). When one remembers what the truth is said to accomplish, it is easily seen why man should love the truth. It takes the truth to make men free from their sins. (Jno. 8:32). It takes the truth to save man. (Rom. 1:16; James 1:21). The truth, when obeyed, is said to cleanse or purify man's soul (1 Pet. 1:22). The truth, when followed, will make the man of God complete. (2 Tim. 3:15-18). Anyone ought to love the truth or anything which will do that much for him. Like the Psalmist of old, men ought to say, "Oh how love I thy law! It is my meditation all the day" (Psa. 119:97). LOVE THE CHURCH Men should also love the church. Christ did. "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it." (Eph. 5:25). Christ purchased the church with His blood which was also

2 said to be for man's salvation. (Acts 20:28-30). It is not very consistent to talk about loving Christ on the one hand, and then to talk about the church being non-essential to man's salvation on the other. Men ought to love the church! LOVE THE BRETHREN The Bible teaches that Christians are expected to love one another. So much is said about this. Scriptures referencing the necessity of love for the saints include John 13:34; 15:12;Romans 12:10; Hebrews 13:1; 1 Pet. 1:22). Passages, such as the one which follows show why brethren should love one another. Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you. We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth (1 John 3:13-18). LOVE EVERYONE A Christian is expected to love everyone. Early in the Bible, man is taught that he is his brother's keeper. It does matter! Jesus taught His disciples to love even their enemies (Matt. 5:44). The apostles taught the same thing (Rom. 12:20). This is shown by how one treats his fellowman. "As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good Page 2 unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith" (Gal. 6:10). LOVE IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE Love is the greatest (I Cor. 13:13). It will cover a multitude of sins. (1 Pet. 4:8.) Love is so important, but love won't do everything. Love won't take the place of the Bible. It still takes the truth to save. Love won't take the place of obedience. Men still have to believe and obey the gospel to be saved, Love won't take the place of sacrifice. Men still have to offer what sacrifices are required of them today. Love won't take the place of worship. Men still have to attend to that no matter how much and how many they love. Love won't take the place of service, for that is the way that love is shown. As a matter of fact, love does not take the place of anything which God requires. As important as love is, other things are also essential to man's salvation.

The Sound Doctrine class (Chapel) is coed and is open to all members (ages 18 and older). There also are other classes for adult Ladies (auditorium) and for adult Men (Fellowship Hall) If you have or know children who want to attend Sunday school but don't have transportation, then the church bus can pick them up! If you send your child(ren) on the church bus, you can feel confident that they are in good hands. Saturdays 7:00AM 7:30AM Please remember to support our WORLD- WIDE TV MINISTRY through prayer and your giving. You go to work in the rain....because it is cold. It is warm and friendly inside....because it is hot. So is fishing and the golf course....because no one invited you. People go to a lot of places uninvited, and even pay to get in....because of hypocrites. You associate with them every day....because of company. Bring them along; they will admire you....because you have little children. Jesus says, Suffer the little children to come to me...because your clothes are not nice enough. God looks on the heart....because you do not like the preacher. He is human, as we all are....because the church always wants money.
