The team is a compassionate and passionate group of beautiful Trinity members. The current team includes Pastor Brian Bankert, Mary Bankert, Lorna Dorn, Gloria Howe, Sandy LeMoine and Dorothy Warren. While the focus of the team can change, their ongoing activities currently include: Keeping track of members in need of some kind of support Providing devotionals to members who would like them Visiting homebound members with communion Conducting the annual Healing Service and supporting the healing portion of the regular monthly worship. Providing Sunday morning blood pressure checks. Coordinating the tape ministry. Making phone contacts with members after hospitalization with offer of assistance. Keeping in touch with home-bound members with greeting card and birthday messages. Quarterly teas at Brewster Village, providing worship, communion and fellowship. Coordinating the annual Christmas Cookie event for Trinity s homebound members. A new activity, which will start in July, is a monthly fellowship event at the Heritage. Pastor Dennis Ellison will support the team for this new venture. The format of the event is still emerging, but initial thoughts are that it will include a worship experience, communion, fellowship and food. You are invited to attend, even if you don t live at the Heritage. It will be on the second Monday of each month at 2-3:30 p.m. July 13th is the first service at Heritage. Thank you so much to the team for devoting their time, energy and passion to our Trinity members. They love what they do! If anyone is in need of support, contact Pastor Brian and he will connect you to the right person. 2

3 TOMORROW S TRINITY During our latest discussions with the city of Appleton it became evident to me that all parties involved may benefit by a better understanding of Trinity's intention to continue to serve the downtown community. Below is the vision I shared with them. As always, I hope you will share your comments with me. Many Blessings! Pastor Brian What might tomorrow s Trinity Lutheran Church look like? May 31, 2015 by the Rev. Brian Bankert Often, through our struggles we find a catalyst for change. Trinity Lutheran Church has struggled and is changing. Anthony Robinson, in his book, What s Theology got to do with it?, states, Transformation often begins with provocation, disorientation, loss of control, and emptying. In Robinson s ideal church, individual members are asked to be responsive to the work of the Holy Spirit, to take risks, and to step outside of their comfort zones. This church model is all about transforming lives and impacting the society around it for the better. For years Trinity has reached out to the community. Our mission happens at the Homeless Connections kitchen, where Trinity volunteers prepare meals for those who have no home; and in the homes of families receiving a Thanksgiving dinner provided by church members. Our mission happens during a Salvation Army meal, served and prepared by Trinity members and when family members open Christmas gifts from our Giving Tree compliments of our members who want to help those in need. Recently Homeless Connections received $5,000 from Trinity due to the efforts of the many folks involved with our annual charity golf outing. There are continuous acts of grace and mission carried out by members of this church. We do all of this by relying on God's sustaining grace, that allows us to give of our time, talent, and financial resources. Because there are still many in our community that are hungry or alone Trinity Lutheran Church knows it must transform and so we have begun to renew and strengthen our efforts to live out our mission statement Feeding the Hungry... Serving the Community. Loaves & Fishes of the Fox Valley, Inc. is the cornerstone of these efforts. Trinity has a very special relationship with Loaves & Fishes which provides a free community meal, each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evening, to anyone in the Fox Valley who is hungry and/or alone. Trinity s church basement has served as the home for Loaves & Fishes since 2000 and a number of congregation members volunteer to serve meals and help with administrative duties. Trinity looks forward to our mission in the future taking us wherever there are hungry, homeless, and lonely people who need Jesus in their lives. As our position in the community changes, Trinity Lutheran Church is transforming its identity. Through our recent and intentional time of discernment, we have heard that our congregation desires to remain a church in mission in downtown Appleton. We intend to live out our faith in our community, not behind the closed doors of our sanctuary. We hope to establish, enhance and expand relationships and partnerships with our neighbors all of our neighbors not just those that look and act like we do. We are committed to working with the many social agencies and congregations in downtown Appleton. Ultimately, we seek to focus on transforming our community through collaborative, holistic ministries and social outreach programs. We seek to proclaim a message of hope, to advocate for the poor and marginalized, and to heal and comfort those who are hungry and suffering within our community. 3

4 Friends at Trinity Word from the Council President On June 17 your Executive Committee and I had the experience of watching the Appleton City Council in action, holding public discussion and voting on the offer to purchase Trinity and Fox Banquets. As you know, the motion to purchase failed on a 6 to 8 vote. So as I am writing this article late in the evening on June 17, I do not have any answers on what happens next for the City and the Library. But I do know this: we at Trinity have established our core values that include Feeding The Hungry and Serving The Community and we will continue this Mission while we also go forward with Asset Mapping with the help of Pastor Jean from the synod. Your Council will also continue to work on what next for Trinity, strengthening our liaisons with other ELCA churches, and possibly developing options for creative uses of our building. We will move forward, with or without the City. When God closes a door, he opens a window. Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the Lord delivers him in time of trouble. Psalm 41 Blessings to you, Jeanne Jeanne Beckley Council President Living Faith: Sermon Series July 5: John 6:1-15 Enough... And More July 12: John 8:31-36 Free Indeed July 19: John 9:1-41 Hear, See, Believe, Witness July 26: John 11:1-44 Resurrection & Life Help is always needed for lawn mowing at church. Mowing is done Thursday-Sunday of the week and done on a rotating basis. The more people we have, the less someone is scheduled. Mower is provided and day mentioned above is flexible. It is usually about 1 hour or so commitment depending on what there is to do. Mowing will run until the middle of October. If interested in getting more information or getting on the rotation, please call Sue Barden at

5 Healing Worship Service - May 31, 2015 The second annual Healing Worship service was held on Sunday afternoon, May 31 at 3 p.m. It was a wonderful event for those who participated and for those who were active in planning and conducting the event. Everything was very special and several people commented on how meaningful it was for them!! There were 57 people at the worship service dinner. Brewster Village was kind to bring several of our members on their bus. The Brewster employees said that one of their favorite tasks is to bring people back to their home church. About 7 members of the community came for dinner. Several members' families were able to join their loved ones for the event. Thank you to Pastor Brian and Pastor Dennis who did a wonderful job with the worship service and laying on of hands! Thank you to Jon Peterson and Katy Bultman who played and sang beautifully and enhanced the worship experience. Thank you to the HHH team who pulled it all together. Thank you to Lorna Dorn, Glennis Schuelke, Mary Robertson, Kay Odegaard, Marita Wagner and Sandy LeMoine for the bars, cake & cookies! Thank you to Ralph Arlette who surprised us with 2 pans of fried chicken. Thank you to the volunteers (Mary Bankert, Matt Bankert, Lorna Dorn, Kay Odegaard, Jeanne Beckley, Marilyn Schucknecht, Ken Schucknecht, Carol Burns and Judy Natz) who helped to usher, set-up, serve, clean-up, assist with worship, assist members, greet, and the many other necessary tasks! Stuff the Bus Trinity will again collect school supplies for needy children in the Fox Valley. The items we collect will be delivered to Stuff the Bus at the August 12 Timber Rattler game.
