Heavenly Humour There was once an elderly gent who had an incredible knack of predicting the future. When people asked him how he did this, he claimed that he had regular conversations with God, and God would tell him what would happen. One fellow, wanting to have a little fun, asked the old man, Can you tell me if I will go to Heaven? The old man said that he would bring up the subject that evening and try to get an answer for him. A couple of days later, they met again, and the fellow asked if he had an answer to his question. The elderly gent responded, Well, yes, but there is some good news and some bad news for you. The good news is that yes, you will go to Heaven. The fellow smiled, and asked, And the bad news? The old man replied, They re expecting you this Thursday. Volunteers are needed for the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day masses and the New Year s Eve and New Year s Day masses. Thank You. 3

4 WINTER ESCAPE POSTERS ARE AVAILABLE: If you know of a proper place to put up a poster announcing our family friendly event on February 2, 2019, please take a poster or as many as you can properly display. Be sure to tell your friends, family, and coworkers about our exciting event!! MARRIAGE MOMENT: It s almost here. Perhaps your tradition is to decorate the tree or open presents on Christmas Eve. Keep the focus on your love for each other, not on if everything will go right. Sometimes the best Christmas stories are about fiascos. PARENTING PERSPECTIVE: December 30 is the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph; and often this feast gets lost amidst the hustle of Christmas. Take 5 minutes today to share with your family at least one thing that makes your family holy. Hint: it need not be about saying prayers; it could be examples of selflessness. OFFICE COMPUTERS: It has come to our attention that the office computers are being shut off after use during non office hours. The office staff is instructed to leave the computers turned on so that those who are authorized to remotely use them can access their information. If you have permission to use the office computers remember to leave them turned on when you are finished using them. Similarly; we spent $1, in repairs for the office copier. Please; do not use the copier if you do not know how to use it. Thank you for your cooperation. Fr. Innocent FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT: Today we hear that Jesus coming into our world and all of the love he poured out for us, through much sacrifice, was done in obedience to the Father s will. Remember that it may be God s will that you be a priest, or a religious sister or brother. If so, will you follow Jesus example of faithfulness. If God is calling you to a Church vocation call Fr. 5 FAITH MOMENT: Like a young child awaiting Christmas morning, our readings today fill us with great expectation and hope. In the first reading Israel is given God s promise that He will care for and stand firm with His people. We learn that from Bethlehem shall come forth from God one who will shepherd His flock, that "His greatness shall reach to the ends of the earth; he shall be peace." In a similar way on Christmas we do much more than recall God s gift a gift that was not wrapped in bright paper but in dreary swaddling clothes; a gift that was not found under a tree but in Bethlehem. On Christmas we also place our hope in God s promise to care for us and we trust that the promise once fulfilled in Bethlehem continues to be present with us today. Like both the Israelites of old and the young child of today we are also filled with a great expectation that we will very shortly find God s great gift of peace in and for our lives. On February 2 nd we will host our Annual Winter Escape Fundraiser. What a great Christmas Gift/Stocking Stuffer these tickets would be for that hard to please person on your shopping list. Our evening will start at the Immaculate Conception Hall with a delicious Turkey Dinner at 5:30 pm. After dinner, at 6:30 pm, Red Creek Band will perform numerous numbers for your listening and/or dancing enjoyment. Along with great food and great music, we will have a Gift Basket raffle. This fun filled family event is not to be missed! Tickets are $10 for children 12 and under $20 for Adult tickets. Remember, tickets are limited so get yours early so you don t miss out!! ITEMS FOR GIFT BASKETS: As you begin making room for all the exciting new items you hope to get for Christmas, don t forget that we are looking for new items or VERY gently used items to make gift baskets for our Winter Escape. Items can be dropped off at the parish office or left in the breezeway between the garage and rectory at Immaculate Conception. Your help is greatly appreciated. Keep in mind that if you get a gift that doesn t suit you donate it to a gift basket to be regifted. CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS: It is time again for us to get our Churches ready for Christ s birthday. Saint Mary s decorating will take place after the 8am Mass on Sunday, December 23 rd and Immaculate Conception s decorating will take place after the 9:30am Mass on Sunday, December 23 rd. Could you please decide to give 30 minutes of your time after Mass for this. It really is a very rewarding experience decorating with fellow parishioners, with lots of fun and laughter., and getting to know one another a little bit better every year.
