People: Finally. The presents are wrapped, mostly. The goodies for tomorrow are ready, sort of. The kids are as hyper as usual. Christmas is tomorrow. 2

3 Leader: But something feels off. The Santa Ana winds are still here. It s barely even cold. The country feels grouchy. Everything now seems more uncertain. People: So we journey back to church in the dark, as if this were our journey to Bethlehem. We listen to the story we already know, sing familiar carols, and light a candle to honor a Child born to save us all. Leader: And we hope that we will not just have a visit from Santa, but that we will also be touched by the Nativity Child himself. All: Amen. FIRST READING Genesis 1:26-38; 5:1b-2: God blesses humankind *THE PEACE Leader: The peace of Christ be always with you. People: And also with you! Greet one another in Christ. Join back together when the carol begins. *CAROL Joy to the World verses 1 & 2 UMH No. 246 Joy to the world, the Lord is come! 4 People: We light the Christ candle to praise Jesus Christ, who comes to all of us, Beginning with the least and the last. (Light the four Advent Candles and the Christ candle.) Living Christ, give us faith to trust you, hope to follow you, love to live for you, wisdom to know you, and joy to adore you. We trust you, we love you, we praise you.
