2 FAITH STATEMENT The Christian Faculty/Staff Network at Louisiana State University comprises active and retired faculty, staff, and spouses who are bound together by our belief that: Jesus Christ, the Son of the one true, eternal triune God and sole Author of salvation offers to all a life-transforming personal relationship; The Holy Bible is the authentic and instructive Word of God; God's Spirit indwells all believers; and God's Word and His Holy Spirit are to guide Christians in our daily lives. MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Christian Faculty/Staff Network at Louisiana State University is to serve God and one another by living and speaking the truth of Jesus Christ in love in the University. 3 NOTES TO FINANCIAL STATEMENT A. Revenues As Figure 1 shows, about one third (32%) of the last year s total revenues came from annual dues paid by members (see below for definition), whereas almost 10% from dues paid by friends (see below for definition). However, the largest percentage (34%) is from various types of donations made throughout the year. Finally, a special income category made up 19% of the last year s income. The remaining 6% was the transfer from the previous year. Figure 1. Sources of Revenues, % 19% 32% 1. Membership dues 34% Membership dues Donations Transfer from CFSN member is any active or retired LSU faculty or staff member or his/her spouse, who chooses to agree with the faith and mission statements of CFSN and pay annual dues, which is $25 per person. CFSN encourages a married 9% Friendship dues Special Income couple to have a joint membership with $50 of annual dues. At the end of this fiscal year, CFSN has a total of 21 members (14 individuals and 7 married couples). 2. Friendship dues CFSN friend refers to anyone who is not affiliated with LSU but agrees with the faith and mission statements of CFSN and pays annual dues of $25 to support the activities of CFSN. At the end of this fiscal year, CFSN has one joint and 3 organizational (Campus Crusade for Christ at LSU, Istrouma Baptist Church, the Chapel on the Campus) friends. (Note. When annual dues are paid by an organization s check, it is considered as dues, which is $50, for organizational friendship) 3. Donations Last year CFSN received $225 ($100 more than the previous year) as general donations, whereas $430 was received as matching fund for the Christmas ad in the Reveille, which was run as full-page ad. Other donations were related to 2

4 activities and events, such as Fall Fest 03 and CFSN Kickoff Meetings. B. Expenditures About 97% of CFSN expenses ($2, of $2,115.77) were related to various pre-evangelistic and evangelistic activities as described below. Figure 2. Ads in the Reveille CFSN ran its Christmas ad in the LSU student newspaper, Reveille, for two days during the first week of December, specifically, on Wednesday-Thursday, December 3-4. The full-page ad that cost $560 for a single run and was entitled Does Anyone Really Live a Wonder Life? included a scene from the classic movie, It s a Wonderful Life, a brief evangelistic message, and a list of 24 LSU faculty/staff members names and department or office (see Appendix A). A second ad in the Reveille was run to welcome students to a new semester during the first week of Fall 2004, Monday-Tuesday, August Unlike previous ads, this one took a preevangelistic approach by including some of key life questions, such as Where did we come from? and What is truth? This ad was in color for the first time, and included graphic design instead of picture (see Appendix B). The design was contributed by Alexis Holeman, a Baton Rouge native in Nashville, TN. Our special thanks to Lexie! 2. Conversations CD Conversations is a CD that includes professors talking with students about the questions and issues of life. Christian Leadership Ministries, Campus Crusade for Christ, produced this CD. For details, please visit sations.html. After distributing 200 copies at the last year s Fall Fest, this year 300 copies were purchased to distribute to students at Fall Fest 2004 on Friday, September 3 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., when CFSN will set up its own table. 3

5 3. CFSN brochure CFSN produced its brochure again for Fall Fest 2003, where 200 copies were distributed to LSU students, faculty, and staff members who came to the annual event in the Quad. 4. Kickoff meetings At Fall 2003 Kickoff Meeting at the Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM) on Friday, August 29, CFSN Leadership Team shared the vision of Veritas Forum at LSU, which is scheduled now for March 11 through 17, For Spring 2004 Kickoff Meeting, CFSN invited Dr. Terry Morrison, Director Emeritus of Faculty & Graduate Ministry, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship ( to speak at the Spring 2004 kickoff meeting, which was held at the BCM building on Friday, January 23. In his talk, Truth and the U, Dr. Morrison reminded those who attended the meeting of the significance role of university professors and staff /administrators play in affecting culture. C. CFSN Weekly Meetings Throughout each semester of the last year, CFSN had several weekly meetings of small group books study as follows: Fall Ravi Zacharias Jesus Among Other Gods (Coordinated by Eleanor Howes) 2. Ravi Zacharias Jesus Among Other Gods (Coordinated by Scott LaGraff) D Veritas Forum at LSU This year CFSN members and friends have been serving on LSU Veritas Forum Planning Team (please contact Sung Joon Jang, sjang@lsu.edu, for further information), which is preparing for a pre-evangelistic event, called Veritas Forum, which will be held for the first time in Louisiana from March 11 through 17, 2005 ( CFSN plans to join other individuals and organizations sponsoring the event. While most programs will take place on the LSU campus, Veritas (which means truth) Forum is intended to be a community-wide, non-denominational event, where tough questions are freely asked and honest answers are sought in an open-minded atmosphere. To the first Veritas Forum at LSU, seven speakers/presenters have been invited, who will address various topics related to the main theme, What Does It Mean To Be Human? (See Appendix C for detailed information about each speaker /presenter). 4
