1 1 Timothy 1:5 But the goal of our instruction is love... from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. The purpose of this course: As a Christian home schooling family, we believe in training our children's moral sense through Bible verses, by reading them, discussing them, copying them, and memorizing them. This course gives your child the opportunity to copy out Bible verses on love in cursive, to memorize them if you so choose, and to answer thoughtful questions about each verse. After the student has copied the verses, they get to color a beautiful stained glass style design in colors of their own choosing. This rewards the child's diligence in doing the copywork, also giving him or her some incentive. When the book is finished it becomes a beautiful keepsake. We also include verse posters to color. This book contains the following: 48 pages of Bible verses on the topic of having love for one another, which is a command of Jesus, appearing in Cursive for kids to copy in Cursive for writing practice One stained glass illustration to color on each page as a reward plus verse posters to color Questions at the bottom of each page to make kids think and ensure that they are understanding what they are learning from the verses Standard penmanship lines, as used in most conventional schools A crossword puzzle to solve

2 Memorizing Scripture is an extremely important part of our children's education. Without it, they are prey to any wind of doctrine and can easily stray from the truth. If Bible verses are committed to our kids' memories, they can compare what they hear with the truth, and it acts as an anchor in their lives. Most Christian parents know this, but still don't lead their kids in Scripture memorization because they feel that memorization is difficult. But it really isn't. Every person who speaks their own language has memorized thousands of words. Was it so difficult when you learned to speak as a little child? God has created our minds so that it is easy for us to memorize new words, new sayings, new quotations. What about all the advertisements your whole family knows by heart? See, memorization isn't that hard after all. You just have to break it up into bite sized chunks, then put them all together. In the near future, we will be publishing (as an e-book) a collection of articles that I have written about the importance of memorizing Bible verses, 7 different fun ways to do so, along with beautiful pages to use for recording what your kids have memorized, a special story, and some games and activities to go along with Scripture memorization. But in the meantime, I'd like to take the following verse and show you just how simple it is to help your family memorize Scripture, whether they are 5 years old or 25 years old. (Our two oldest sons memorized the entire book of First John at ages 5 and 6, and enjoyed the process.) Here is the verse I'll use as an example. As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. I Peter 4:10 To memorize this verse, take the first simple phrase and take turns saying it around the room. "As each one...as each one... as each one..." Simple, huh? Now add the second phrase: "As each one has received..." and take turns saying that much. Then take turns saying, "As each one has received a special gift..." Now drop that section for the time being, and start into the next set of phrases: "Employ it..." "Employ it in serving..." "Employ it in serving one another..." Now put the two sections together, and then start on the next one. "As good stewards...of the manifold...grace of God..." Then add the reference at the end. It's that simple. The trick is to break it in logical chunks, little mini phrases that make sense together, phrases made up of just 2 to 5 words. The younger the child, the shorter the phrases. Read the verse through several times to ascertain where the best breaks are between phrases. (In this book, I have divided the verses in the posters to color into logical phrases for you. You might want to start with those.) As you repeat the phrases of each verse, you will find that your mind fits into a natural speech rhythm. We use that rhythm to help us remember the verses we learn. In fact, I find, personally, that when I memorize verses with a little bit of rhythm in the way we say them, those are the Bible verses that I remember best. While you are free to use this book for copywork only, I encourage you to go ahead and try to learn these verses together as a family. The Bible verses I have chosen here are all on love, and will help your children learn to love one another better, bringing greater family harmony.
