A Prayer for the Morning Celebrant God our Mother and Father, we come to you as children. Be with us as we learn to see one another with new eyes, hear one another with new hearts, and treat one another in a new way. Amen. Hymn This is a Day of New Beginnings UMH 383 Responsive Prayer Let us pray for the church and for the world. Grant, eternal God, that all who confess your name may be united in your truth, live together in your love, and reveal your glory in the world. Guide the people of this land, and of all the nations, in the ways of justice and peace; that we may honor one another and serve the common good. Give us all a reverence for the earth as your own creation, that we may use its resources rightly in the service of others and to your honor and glory. Bless all whose lives are closely linked with ours, and grant that we may serve Christ in them, and love one another as Christ loves us. Comfort and heal all those who suffer in body, mind, or spirit; give them courage and hope in their troubles, and bring them the joy of your salvation. Please stand in body or spirit.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give God thanks and praise. It is indeed right, for you made us, and before us, you made the world we inhabit, and before the world, you made the eternal home in which, through Christ, we have a place. All that is spectacular, all that is plain have their origin in you; all that is lovely, all who are loving point to you as their fulfillment. And grateful as we are for the world we know and the universe beyond our ken, we particularly praise you, whom eternity cannot contain, for coming to earth and entering time in Jesus. For his life which informs our living, for his compassion which changes our hearts, for his clear speaking which contradicts our harmless generalities, for his disturbing presence, his innocent suffering, his fearless dying, his rising to life breathing forgiveness, we praise you and worship him. Here too our gratitude rises for the promise of the Holy Spirit, who even yet, even now, confronts us with your claims and attracts us to your goodness. Therefore we gladly join our voices to the song of the Church on earth and in heaven: Please stand in body or spirit.

And now, lest we believe that our praise alone fulfills your purpose, we fall silent and remember him who came because words were not enough. Setting our wisdom, our will, our words aside, emptying our hearts, and bringing nothing in our hands, we yearn for the healing, the holding, the accepting, the forgiving which Christ alone can offer. (Silence) Celebrant Celebrant Among friends gathered round a table, Jesus took bread, and broke it, and said, This is my body given for you. Later he took a cup of wine and said, This is the new relationship with God made possible because of my death. Take it, all of you, to remember me. Jesus, firstborn of Mary, Have mercy on us. Jesus, Savior of the world, Have mercy on us. Jesus, monarch of heaven, Grant us peace. Merciful God, send now, in kindness, your Holy Spirit to settle on this bread and wine and fill them with the fullness of Jesus. And let that same Spirit rest on us, converting us from the patterns of this passing world, until we conform to the shape of him whose food we now share. Amen. He whom the universe could not contain, is present to us in this bread. He who redeemed us and called us by name now meets us in this cup. So take this bread and this wine. A service to celebrate his life will be held here this afternoon at 2 p.m. Family Lounge is available in the back of the Sanctuary with audio feed of the service and a family restroom. Nursery care is available on Sunday mornings from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. for infants and toddlers. The Nursery is located in the Fellowship Building across the courtyard. Special Assistance is available for those who need hearing devices or have accessibility needs. Please see an usher. Worship opportunities at Trinity are varied. Sundays at 8:30 a.m. is our informal weekly worship with communion each week. Sundays at 10:30 a.m. is a traditional weekly service with communion on the first Sunday of the month. Wednesdays at 12 p.m. is our brief weekly communion service. Our monthly Celtic Service, similar to what you ve experienced this morning, is held on the last Sunday of the month at 6 p.m. Currently, Sunday morning services are held in the Sanctuary and the Wednesday and Celtic services are held in the Chapel. The mission of The United Methodist Church is to form disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. The Offertory is Mark Hayes 2008 setting of the Gaelic melody BUNESSAN but may be more familiar as the hymn Morning Has Broken. The Communion tune originally accompanied a Robert Burns poem; here it is the first movement of Max Bruch s 1880 Scottish Fantasy. The Meditation is a Welsh lullaby (its name means lulling song ), arranged in 1988 by K. Lee Scott; it was used in the Steven Spielberg film Empire of the Sun and is a favorite encore of Welsh singers Charlotte Church, Aled Jones, Katherine Jenkins and Bryn Terfel. The Postlude is an Irish-styled jig composed by George Frideric Handel as the finale to his Flute Sonata in F, HWV 369.
