1 November 4 th 2018 Christian Reformed Church of Perth Inc. 5 Colombo Street, Victoria Park, W.A Weekly Newsletter Perth Congregation: Pastor: Reinier Noppers Mobile: reinierticktock@gmail.com Web site: Facebook: Christian Reformed Church of Perth CRC Perth. LINK EDITOR Contact: Nicolene Knoetze linkcrcperth@gmail.com Welcome A warm welcome to all who have come to the service today and a special welcome to visitors. May the Lord bless each of us as we worship together, that His Name may be glorified and that we are encouraged and strengthened in faith. A typical service includes a time of singing praise, prayer, Bible reading and a message given by the Pastor. There is also an opportunity for us to give financially. If you are not a member or regular attendee of CRC Perth, please don t feel obligated to participate in the offering. We have two offerings. The first is for the workings of our local church, the second for a specified group usually outside our local church. Crèche is available for children aged 0-4 at the rear of the church building during the service. After the service please join us for refreshments and fellowship either to the side of church or in the hall. Please utilise the church s electronic banking Banking details: Commonwealth Bank of Australia Christian Reformed Church of Perth BSB: #: Mark as tithe or first offering or the name of the second offering (e.g.: Diaconate) First Offering: For the ministry of this church Second Offering: 4 Nov.: Diaconate 11 Nov.: Solomon Island Workgroup 18 Nov.: Reformed Theological College 25 Nov.: Manoah House An outreach of Perth CRC is: Christian Wheatbelt Fellowship Pastor: Geoff van Schie 6 Booth Street, WONGAN HILLS 6603 Phone: gvschie@oz .com.au Web: BSB: A/C Preacher: R. Noppers Reading: 2 Samuel 12: 1 12 and Romans 2: 1-11 Text: Matthew 7: 1-5 Sermon: Faults and Fanatics MEDITATION: Jesus provides us with a classic illustration in this little passage: the contrast between a splinter and a large plank is so obvious it needs not explanation. And the application is just as classic; how completely absurd it would be to try and remove a small splinter from someone else s eye which requires great care, gentleness and tenderness; if all the while you had a massive plank stuck in your own eye! In fact, it is more than absurd, for finding a splinter requires great effort, whereas the plank is all too obvious; added to which the plank in your own eye would prevent anyone from ever getting close enough to even see the splinter in the other! Translate this to finding faults, and it hits home instantly and hard. We all find it easier to spot faults in each other, but Jesus much prefers we deal with our own issues first! We may think other people have big character flaws, but the reality is they are no bigger than ours and probably significantly less if we take the time to look at ourselves objectively. And to leave the plank: simply points out how quickly we go looking at everyone apart from ourselves. The solution? Begin at the cross: truly understand the extent of forgiveness received and then move on in that forgiveness. Judgements made in love, filled with grace, exercised in mercy and compassion. As God has dealt with us. RN PASTORAL Corne de Jager s mother passed away last weekend in South Africa, and the funeral was held this past Thursday. It was a blessing that Corne was able to spend a little time with her mother and be there with the family in this time of loss. May God s peace and comfort continue to surround her, and also Willem, Anneke and Klarinda. Shared lunch today: do stay and enjoy the food and fellowship together. Classis meets this Saturday at Willetton church, with part of the agenda a preaching license exam for Asher van Wollingen from Forrestdale church plant. Pastor Reinier and Sam Assaad will be delegates for CRC Perth. There will be no more Catechism Classes this year, with several special services planned to round out the year. Next Sunday (11 th November) is our regular Classis preaching swap, with John de Jongh leading the service here, while I will be taking the services in Australind.

2 The following Sunday (18 th November) we will combine with the Korean Presbyterian Church and celebrate Thanksgiving Sunday more details next week! Then, on Sunday 25 th November, we have the installation service for Raymond van der Kooij as elder in this congregation. Finally, on Sunday December 2 nd, we host the youth from our WA churches as we hold the final Classis Youth Service for 2018, and again have a shared lunch and sausage sizzle afterwards to enjoy the fellowship. And then on to Christmas. ANOUNCEMENTS: Bibles for the Persecuted: Thank you to all who have returned their boxes / donations today if you have not done so, could you please do so next Sunday so that the proceeds can be forwarded to the Bible League and used to help our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ. Christmas BBQ: will be held on Saturday 8 th December from 11 am till 2 pm. We need a few volunteers to help set up gazebos and decorate from 9 am on the day and if you could provide a salad or something for desert that would be greatly appreciated. If you are able to lend a helping hand, please speak to Nicolene. Manoah Fundraising Market Day Results It is with praise and thanks to God we can announce a fantastic result of $ On the day $ was raised, with further donations and late payments being added earlier last week. It was lovely to see people enjoying some great food, catching up with old friends and acquaintances, buying a treasure and making generous donations towards the work of the Manoah House Hostel. It was great to see some of the residents getting out and enjoying the beautiful sunshine and festivities. Thanks go to all who attended, or contributed by means of donating their time or goods. Great to see a community working together. Through all this, may God s name be glorified. Trudy Noppers & Carina Schutte NEWS FROM OTHER CHURCHES: Gateway: Greg Brookes is home after his operation. We Pray for a full and swift recovery, and that God will bless Greg with His nearness and peace as He does this. Mark McMahens' Mum fell over last Thursday and broke her hip, the same one she broke 12 years ago. It was a major operation to remove the old pin and plate and install a long rod. She nearly died in recovery and has just come out of ICU. She will be a long time recovering. Please pray for her and her husband who has deteriorated a lot recently and has been very shaken by this situation. Pray for the upcoming Ballot on Sunday. Pray that there will be a clear outcome so that we move forward with our focus on the future work of the church. Pray for opportunities to strengthen our relationships as a congregation, to build a community here that is seen and known for its love for one another. Seen as a place of Joy, Love, Peace, Healing, Safety, and Blessing. A place where people will want to come and share what we have. Jesus. Gosnells: It was special to wish Margaret de Jong a happy 90 th birthday last Sunday for this past Wednesday. But we omitted to note in last Sunday s newsletter that it was a milestone birthday, so I correct that now. I trust you enjoyed the day, Margaret. Greg Brookes, son of Ati, is now recovering from his surgery for cancer. We pray that this is going well. Also, Dirk Yskes has developed some complications after his recent positive cancer treatment. Please remember him and Maaike in prayer as further care is provided.

3 Willetton: Please Pray: that we would all be content with what we have, through knowing what God has given to us. Pray that we would be grateful for the gospel and for the relationship we have with Him, and that we would have a heart of generosity as a result. (AM Service). for the spreading of the good news of Jesus Christ. Pray that, as we are reminded of how we have received it, so we would also send that same message into the world around us. (PM Service). that we would be proactive in reaching out to the community. Pray that we might not only think of ways to serve and support those coming in to the new residential area, but that we would also put them into practice. for the way we approach coming to church on Sunday. Pray that we would not be consumers, but instead that we would be intentional in our love for the church. with thanks for the Manoah Market Day, through which God continues to provide for his people. Give thanks that the day was filled with community spirit and was an encouragement to the residents there. for Jordan and Meg as they take up their new positions in the church. Pray that God will equip them with wisdom and strength for building relationships and completing tasks. for Tony & Reg and Dawie & Belinda as they prepare to move east in December. Pray that they will have God's peace in the packing, planning and transitioning to a new season. for Cath Kroon (and baby) as the due date approaches later this week, that the birth will go well. Pray also for the other pregnant mums in the church: Helma Byl (who's due in a month), Jodie Eikelboom and Stacie Waugh. NEWS FROM OUTREACH PROGRAMS: Bibles For the Persecuted: Through the ministry of the Bible League s Bibles for the Persecuted we are able to provide personal encouragement and strength to persecuted believers as Bibles are provided for them. Each of you will have received a Bibles for the Persecuted prayer resource booklet and a Bible shaped money box. This programme runs for 21 days, and collection day will be this Sunday November 4th. PRAYER and PRAISE November All thanks and glory to God for the successful annual gathering of GOSPEL workers at Baroda during the first week of October. 23 graduated in our very first graduation ceremony for the Diploma in Mission Altogether. This month the Hindu festival of light called Diwali, will be celebrated from 6th to 9th November However, it is not really about the true light. Please pray that many of our contacts in the mission fields will come to truly find the Light of the World in in our Lord Jesus Christ. Please pray for the forthcoming training seminars for Tuition Centre Teachers which will be held on 10th to 12th November Tuition centres are opportunities to help over 600 primary school kids learn more about God s World and his Word. Praise God for the 85 new people in congregations who are showing an interest in the Gospel. Please pray that these interested people will continue to grow in the knowledge of our Lord so that they fully accept Jesus Christ in the days to come. We have started two new mission fields in Alirajpur and Bhabarh with 10 new workers. These two fields are very responsive to Christ, but also the areas are potentially areas where persecution may be stirred up. Please pray that our Lord will protect our new workers to take up this challenge to reach out to many new people to tell them of the love of God in Christ.

4 CC18 is at the printers! The new look Compassionate Catalogue for 2018 will soon be sent to all churches. There will be 23 different opportunities to support valuable international initiatives that our churches are involved with. Look out for it soon! 1 November 2018 Christian Reformed Churches of Australia To the churches of the CRCA and RCNZ Dear brothers and sisters, The Synodical Interim Committee (SIC) and Solomon Islands Workgroup (SIW) write to inform you that Rev. Eric Maefonea no longer holds the Word Missionary position at SWIM. For some time SIW has been aware of differing points of view between Eric and other missionaries at SWIM, and with SIW itself. Much effort has been made by SIW to deal with these issues, but it has become clear that the relationship has moved beyond the point of meaningful cooperation. Eric has evidenced that he no longer commits to walking the journey with other members of SWIM and SIW, leaving them no choice but to end his contract. We are deeply saddened by this outcome. But, as was seen even in biblical times between early missionaries Paul and Barnabas (Acts 15:36ff), sometimes such situations can only end in a separating of ways. We understand that this will come as a shock to many of you. We trust that you will continue to support Eric and his family in prayer as they seek the Lord s leading in their future ministry and other endeavours. Eric has displayed excellent teaching and ministry work amongst his people in the Solomon Islands and it is our prayer that he may continue in this gospel work. SWIM is currently in the process of a Review to determine the best way forward for SWIM s ministry in Solomon Islands. We are confident that this Review can proceed, and we look forward to its outcome guiding us into where God might be leading SWIM in thefuture for its gospel-work in Solomon Islands. To that end we also seek your prayers for the Review Committee, SIW, those on the SWIM base, and the people of the Solomon Islands. In Christ, The Synodical Interim Committee, in conjunction with the Solomon Islands Workgroup. EVENTS: Register Your Interest and Save The Date Young Adults (18-30) Christian Camp - February 2019 We are currently planning a young adults weekend for our churches in W.A. It is planned for February 2019 at the Eaton Scout campsite. The facilities can be viewed on: All those from the Christian Reformed Churches (and other churches too!) between the ages of will be welcome, but Sorry, it s not a camp for children. What do you need to do? At this stage we are not asking anyone to commit to attending, but would like people to register their interest so that we can keep people updated. We would also like to hear any feedback as to how you think the camp should run. Please register your interest/provide feedback to Barbara Thank you! Organizing committee from CRCA Australind.
