2 Page 2 June 2017 Dear Members and Friends of St. Paul s, Empowering others with the good news of Jesus! That s our mission. But s it s clearly not just a statement here. It s become an integral part of the DNA of this place and community. Locally, nationally, internationally St. Paul s continues to live into this phrase. You helped raise $4075 for Lutheran Charities at the recent because event month. You launched a new food pantry to provide food for food insecure families in the neighborhood. You finished cooking and delivering meals to families through the Daily Bread Food Truck. And now you re going to fire the Dough Boy (my nickname for the truck) back up and do it all again! You share finances with the ELCA, LCLC and World Hunger through our quarterly benevolent giving. All of these ways are sharing that good news! I wanted to update you on our international mission though. We continue to stay connected and visit our partners in Ile a Vache Haiti. I am down there twice a year taking students from campus ministry or working on church/development issues and my wife is down there once a year with a medical clinic team. Several other churches partner with us, most recently Holy Trinity Buffalo that sends a medical team each year. Now that the school is running, the trade school for older kids is in its third year, the church is growing and the orphanage has doubled in size through adding a second floor and new solar power, it s Scott Jones, who worships with us, has designed a medical clinic building that we need to build. There are no functional clinics with full time medical staff on the island of 15,000 people. Our partners, Project Starfish in Virginia, will be raising money for a full doctor and coordinating medical team visits. Our job (Our = WNY Impact Foundation, St. Paul s and anyone else that feels called to this mission) is to build the structure. It looks to be a You can watch the video about the need for medical clinic here - and take a look at the The need is great. One of our recently medical teams couldn t even get out to the island because they were stuck on the mainland due to 30 of rain in 48 hours. They had doctors and medicine but just couldn t get it to the people who needed it most. So we have to build this clinic! I ll share more in church ways you can get involved financially but for now, please pray about it. Maybe you want to leave a legacy for the people of Haiti? This would be a way to do it!! Let s have coffee and I can fill you in more. Thank you for being an amazingly generous and missionally active community. God has blessed us for sure and the promise is that those blessings will continue. May we each use our blessings to empower people with the good news of Jesus. Still in One Peace, ps
3 The CALLER Page 3 Take up a relaxing hobby: Singing in a choir, for example, may benefit your health! British researchers report the activity increases levels of cytokines an immune system protein that helps fight illness - in cancer patients. In fact, anything that feeds your soul is likely to be good for your body. St. Paul s Choir rehearses on Thursdays at 7:30 pm. Come and check it out! No auditions! All voice parts welcome! The Office Hours have changed now to Monday through Friday 9:30am 1:30pm If you or a group you lead need access outside those hours, please call the Church Office about getting a keyfob made for you. Contact Katie Nagel-Santillo katie@stpaulseggertsville.org ebay News from Sara Gallagher June 2017 April was a busy month for me and the ebay listings got put on the back burner. Got back to it in May, and in the first half of the month there are sales to report: The Daily Bread Food Truck News! The Daily Bread Food Truck is now up and running for our second season. Please join us out front of Church on Sunday, June 4, 11, and 18 to enjoy tasty brunch specialties. 20-volume set of Aubrey-Maturin Series Books b Patrick O Brian Vintage Men s Black Felt Derby Hat SAS Women s Suntimer White Sandals SAS Whisper Black Women s Lace-up Shoes New Canon PIXMA MG2120 All-in-One Inkjet Printer Chicken Soup for the Soul Game and 12 Books The project to install a TV screen in the sanctuary is completed. Funds earned from ebay sales in the amount of approximately $3,200 were used to pay for that. Your support and patronage contributed mightily to helping us deliver 763 "Give One" meals to those in need over the winter. Also in May, another $500 was transferred to our church checking account as a result of sales. Keep me in mind when you are going through your stuff. Maybe you have something that we could sell. 4 Summer blessings! During the month of May the children learned about how we are like the sheep and Jesus is our shepherd. We put our trust and faith in Him and He will protect us and guide us down the right path. Kurt from LCLC came and joined in on our sheep game and had some time to talk to the children! Mother s Day we talked about the commandment honoring our parents (especially our Mom s on this day). We talked about what it means to honor and respect and how God wants us to do just that! The children made cards and gave their mom s flowers! Our last day of Sunday school was May 21 st. Our lesson: The Ten Commandments. The children learned each commandment in kid friendly terms. We talked about what each of them mean and how we can keep the commandments and what we can do this summer to keep Jesus in our everyday lives even though Sunday school has ended. We planted forget me nots as a symbol to remind the kids to not forget what they have learned! There were games that related to just that. We had bowling the Ten Commandments (each pin had a commandment) we also did the same thing with hopscotch and fishing. The kids also had a game where they had to reach for candy that was out of reach with help from friends. As a reminder to help one another! They ended with tying messages or commandments to balloons and launching them off as Sunday school for this season came to a close. Reminder: There will be a table placed near the front doors of the sanctuary during the summer months with crafts and snacks to keep the kids occupied during service. Also remember that Impact Day Camp will be here before you know it! July 10 th 14 th. We will be needing volunteers! Sign-up sheets will be posted as the time draws near. In peace and love and gratitude for all the help and support and blessings I have received from all of you! ~ June
5 Altar Flowers: Every Sunday two bouquets adorn the altar at St. Paul s. They can be dedicated in honor of a person, sometimes an event anniversary, birthday, baptism, etc. Anyone can dedicate flowers and we can have multiple dedications for a Sunday. The bouquets are then delivered to our shut-in or hospitalized members after worship. Flower order envelopes are in the pew racks and include prices. There are also Visitor informational slips in the pew racks as well where you may also choose to include your information for Flower orders. You may fill them out and place them in the offertory baskets during service. If you know of anyone that may be celebrating a special event or is a shut-in, please let us know so that we may add them to the list of recipients. Also, please call the Church office at if you are able to help deliver after Sunday service. Thank you! JUNE YOUTH NEWS What a year we ve had together!
