5 THE LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST Christians are baptized into paschal mystery Christ s death and resurrection for forgiveness sin and fullness salvation. This mystery is celebrated at every Mass, remembering Christ s loving deed and giving thanks and praise to God. By this action Sacrifice Cross is continuously made present in Church (GIRM, no. 72). Presentation and Preparation Gifts Gifts are collected for poor and for Church. Bread and ine are brought to altar table, and everything is prepared for celebration. If no chant is sung, Priest may pray aloud, and all may respond: Blessed are you, Lord God all creation, for through goodness e have received bread e fer you: fruit earth and ork human hands, it ill become for us bread life. 7 The Scrutinies (Third, Fourth and Fifth Sundays Lent) I. INVITATION TO SILENT PRAYER Folloing Liturgy Word and homily, elect come forard ith ir godparents. The celebrant invites assembly to pray in silence and to ask that elect be given a spirit repentance, a sense sin, and true freedom children God. He n invites elect to also pray in silence, suggesting that as a sign ir inner spirit repentance y bo ir heads or kneel. II. INTERCESSIONS FOR THE ELECT After period silent prayer, community and elect stand for intercessions. During intercessions, godparents stand ith ir right hand on shoulder elect. III. EXORCISM The ceremony continues ith prayer exorcism in hich celebrant asks that elect be freed from effects sin and from poer Satan. With this prayer elect receive ne strength in midst ir spiritual journey and open ir hearts to receive gifts Savior. Folloing exorcism, all join in singing an appropriate song. IV. DISMISSAL OF THE ELECT The elect are normally dismissed at this point, and rite continues ith Liturgy Eucharist. If Eucharist is not celebrated, faithful and elect are dismissed toger, and an appropriate song may conclude celebration. THE WAY OF THE CROSS Tradition holds that Jesus alked from Pilate s praetorium to Golgotha ( Place Skull). The devotion knon as ay, or Stations Cross (Via Crucis), originated ith pilgrims ho alked Via Dolorosa ( ay tears ) in Jerusalem. In 2001, Congregation for Discipline Sacraments issued Directory on Popular Piety and Liturgy (DPPL) and, hen referring to this devotion, stated that In Via Crucis, various strands Christian piety coalesce: idea life as being journey or pilgrimage; as a passage from earthly exile to our true home in Heaven; deep desire to be conformed to Passion Christ, hich imply that his disciples must follo behind ir Master, daily carrying ir on crosses (cf.
