Part 12: UNASHAMED, UNDAUNTED and UNSTOPPABLE! Texts: Numbers 19:14-15 (NKJV) - This is the law when a man dies in a tent: All who come into the tent and all who are in the tent shall be unclean seven days; [15] and every open vessel, which has no cover fastened on it, is unclean. Isaiah 10:20, 27 (NKJV) - And it shall come to pass in that day That the remnant of Israel, And such as have escaped of the house of Jacob, Will never again depend on him who defeated them, But will depend on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. [v27] It shall come to pass in that day That his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, And his yoke from your neck, And the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil. A. As God's Kingdom advances, believers are learning how to be more successful and fulfilled. 1. Joke: God is Getting Better! While visiting with her 85 year-old granddad, a little girl was playing with her mom's makeup mirror. Sitting on his lap, the girl began to notice all his wrinkles. She asked, "Grandpa, did God make you?" "Yes, He did honey. He made me many years ago." "Grandpa, did God make me too?" "Yes, He did, but just a few years ago." She thought for a minute, looked at all his wrinkles again, and then looked at herself in the little mirror. "Grandpa, God's getting a lot better at it, isn't He?" Part 12 The Function and Power of Spiritual Coverings Part 2 - Coverings of Oil
B. Becoming a committed member of the church where God placed you is no small thing. That church becomes your Covering! 1. To determine the meaning of Covering, we have been studying eight Spiritual Coverings: Blood Coverings, Prayer Coverings, Worship Coverings, and Grace Coverings. 2. The Coverings of Oil, or Coverings of the Anointing, includes the unique components of anointing oil. Today, we will learn about the objects and people who were anointed and what this represents for us today. 3. Exodus 30:26-33 (NLT) - Use this sacred oil to anoint the Tabernacle, the Ark of the Covenant, [27] the table and all its utensils, the lampstand and all its accessories, the incense altar, [28] the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the washbasin with its stand. [29] Consecrate them to make them absolutely holy. After this, whatever touches them will also become holy. [30] Anoint Aaron and his sons also, consecrating them to serve me as priests. [31] And say to the people of Israel, 'This holy anointing oil is reserved for me from generation to generation. [32] It must never be used to anoint anyone else, and you must never make any blend like it for yourselves. It is holy, and you must treat it as holy. [33] Anyone who makes a blend like it or anoints someone other than a priest will be cut off from the community. C. While some believe that the Old Testament is not applicable for our day, it contains valuable information and insights into principles of God's Kingdom. 1. In fact, concealed in the Old Testament is the New Testament. And equally true, in the New Testament, the Old is revealed Corinthians 10:11 (NKJV)- Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. 3. We read in Hebrews 10:1 that the Law of the O.T. was a shadow of the good things that were to come in the N.T Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV) - All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness, [17] that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. D. The earliest mention of the Kingdom Principle of Impartation is found in this passage about the anointing. 1. God's instruction for Moses to consecrate and anoint articles in the Tabernacle was an impartation upon everything the oil touched. a. Once these objects were anointed, from that time forward, whatever touched them was made holy. b. This impartation of God's holiness was so powerful, it was transferred not only to people and objects, but to all who contacted them. c. The yoke of the enemy is broken when it comes in contact with the holiness of God. d. Notice that a person's anointing was never lost when confronted by a lesser power or problem created by the enemy. Instead, the anointing broke the bondage and lifted them to a higher level. e. Touching an object that had been anointed placed a demand on the anointing in the consecrated object. f. Exodus 30:29 (NLT) - Consecrate them to make them absolutely holy. After this, whatever touches them will also become holy. 2. The key, then, is to touch what is holy. By so doing, a demand is placed upon the anointing that object carries. a. Touching the Altar of Burnt Offering could produce a breakthrough in prayer that will move heaven. By placing a demand upon the holy, anointed Altar, the yoke will be broken. b. If you would take hold of the Word on the Table of Showbread, the anointing on that Table would break the yoke in your life. c. If you touched the Golden Candlestick to receive a Word from the Holy Spirit, that impartation would shatter the enemy's yoke of bondage that had kept you from walking in God's divine favor.
d. If your worship touched the Altar of Incense, something will surely happen. God will show up and break the enemy's yoke! 3. In Matthew 23:16-19, Jesus explained that the House sanctifies what is inside, and the Altar sanctifies what is placed upon it. a. Your gift doesn't sanctify or empower the House; rather, the House empowers your gift so that you will always receive more than you give. b. This Principle of Impartation is also revealed in Mark 5:29 when the lady with the issue of blood touched the hem of Jesus' garment. c. It's the same principle in Matthew 8:3 and 9:29 when Jesus touched and healed a leper and a blind man. 4. Standing in the synagogue, Jesus read this passage from Isaiah 61:1 (NKJV) - The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me." a. This is why the blind man, the lepers, and the woman with the issue of blood were instantly healed when they touched Jesus. They placed a demand upon the anointing! b. If by faith you can touch what is anointed, you too will receive an impartation! E. Moses was instructed not only to anoint the Tabernacle, but every item in it. 1. The Covering of Oil is so essential because it provides access to each of those items. 2. The Tabernacle had three separate areas. a. The outer court or compound was the area that surrounded the tent or House of Meeting. b. Within the tent was the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies. c. Items in the outer court were made of brass; in the inner court, there was a combination of acacia wood and gold. But in the Holy of Holies, everything was made of gold. d. Brass represents man, while gold represents deity. The outer court was all about man and the works of the flesh; the inner court was
both man and God, or a combination of flesh and the supernatural; but in the Holy of Holies, it was all God. No flesh was allowed in His presence. 3. Moses was first instructed to anoint the various items in the Ark of the Covenant, located in the deepest part of the Tabernacle. a. Moving outward from the Holy of Holies, he was to anoint the items in the Holy Place and then the outer court. b. The idea was that the anointing flowed from the inner sanctum or Holiest of Holies outward. Before the anointing can be manifested externally in our lives, it must work within our hearts, flowing from the inside out. 4. Another reason for anointing items on the inside and then moving toward the Tabernacle entrance was that God had to come to us before we could engage and partner with Him. On our own, we could never enter into His presence, so He came to guide and show us the way. 5. Because man had been alienated from God, for us to experience His anointing, we must begin on the outside and then make our way into His sacred, divine presence in the Holiest of Holies. a. Approaching the Tabernacle, the first object you would see in the Outer Court would be the Brazen Altar. b. You need an anointed Altar where you can cry out to God. c. Our sacrifice moves the heart of God. This is where the Covering of Oil begins. 6. The next object you would approach is the Brazen Laver where parts of the sacrificial animal are washed. Your personal sanctification occurs as you draw near to God under the Covering of Oil. 7. As you enter the Holy Place, on the right is the Table of Showbread with its twelve loaves, which represent the revelation of the Word of God. a. Twelve is the number of Divine Government. b. There were twelve loaves of showbread, twelve sons of Jacob, twelve tribes of Israel, twelve apostles, twelve gates and twelve
foundations in the New Jerusalem, and twelve kinds of fruit on the Tree of Life beside the river that flows from the Throne of God. c. The number twelve also represents abundance. In God's House is an abundance of bread. When your life is in harmony with His Word, He satisfies your hunger and fulfills your life so that you need nothing else. d. Divine Government accompanies the Covering of Oil. 8. The next object in the Holy Place was the Golden Candlestick. a. The light from the Candlestick that illuminated the Table of Showbread refers to revelation; you cannot understand or receive the Word of God unless you're guided by the light of His Holy Spirit. b. A revelatory word accompanies the Covering of Oil. 9. Next was the golden Altar of Incense. a. Located just outside the Veil, this Altar separated man from the divine presence of God. b. It also revealed the effect our worship and prayer has upon God. c. The Altar of Incense literally changed the atmosphere behind the Veil. d. As the aroma of incense flowed where man was not allowed to go, it penetrated the thick fabric of the Veil that protected the Holiest of Holies and changed the atmosphere. e. Without this sweet aroma, the smell of slaughtered sacrificial animals would have been unbearable. 10. The fire in the Altar of Incense came from the Brazen Altar in the Outer Court where the coals had been saturated with the fat of animal sacrifices. a. When Aaron's two sons offered fire from a different source than the Brazen Altar, the fire of God's presence instantly killed them. b. God wants your sacrifice, but He doesn't want the odor of a sacrificial animal. It must be accompanied by the fragrant smell of worship.
c. Jewish rabbis referred to the Altar of Incense as an instrument from beyond the veil. d. While standing here on earth, your prayer and worship can move heaven. Anointed prayer and worship are a vital part of life to those connected to a Covering of Oil. 11. Finally, we move beyond the Veil into the Holiest of Holies where the Ark of the Covenant and the Mercy Seat are located. a. According to Josephus, a Jewish priest and historian who lived in the first century, this Veil was 4-6 inches thick. Because of its weight and opacity, no light could enter this area. In fact, a team of horses pulling from either side could not tear the Veil in two. b. Since God alone could split the Veil, when Christ died, scripture says that the Veil was torn in two from top to bottom. c. Mercy had to be set free to seek for lost humanity. F. Since the Ark of the Covenant and the Mercy Seat were considered as two separate articles, God said that both must be anointed. 1. Hovering over the Mercy Seat were two cherubims, one on either side. a. Mercy is so abundant and free, God said that it must be protected. b. People who aren't acquainted with our God contend that He is all about judgment. But, they don't know Him. The God I serve is rich in mercy and kindness; never stingy or miserly. 2. Dwelling between the wings of the cherubim was the Shekinah presence of the Living God in an unearthly, blue flame of fire suspended between the outstretched wings. 3. The Ark contained only three items. First was the two stone tablets written by God, outlining the Divine Law given to Moses, which we know as the Ten Commandments. a. This was the second set of tablets. In anger, Moses had broken the first set when he discovered Israel worshiping the golden calf.
b. Before God would give Israel another written Law, Moses had to carve the second set of tablets, which required more effort from him. c. The principle here is that each time you break a commandment, it becomes more difficult for God's Laws to be written on your heart. d. The first time you fail to tithe, it becomes harder to submit to God's law of tithing. If you miss church one Sunday, it becomes easier to miss the next week, and the next. e. Re-writing those broken laws in your heart is always more difficult. You'll have to work at it and some will never reclaim their tablets. 4. The next item in the Ark was Aaron's rod, or walking stick, that budded. a. This became a test between Korah and a group of men who defied the authority God had given Aaron. b. To settle the dispute, God instructed Moses to place Aaron's rod, along with the rods of Korah and his men in the presence of God overnight. c. When Moses came to retrieve the rods the next morning, Aaron's rod had sprouted leaves and almonds, while the rods of those who had challenged Aaron remained dead and dry. 5. The third item was a pot of manna, which reminded Israel of God's supernatural provision in their wilderness journey. 6. The three items in the Ark were a powerful symbolism of God's divine laws and the Covering He provides. When you abide under His divine Covering and live according to His laws, you will enjoy His unmerited mercy and the many benefits of His Covering of Oil. G. Moses' next instruction was to anoint Aaron as High Priest, and his sons. 1. For the High Priest and his sons to be anointed, they had to be stripped of their clothing at the door of the Tabernacle in the view of Israel. a. Before they could wear the priestly garments, they had to be washed with water.
b. This signifies the transparency God demands of those who wish to serve Him in ministry. Nothing can be hidden. 2. Before the anointing of Aaron and his sons, a ram of consecration had to be sacrificed. Our English word for 'bless' comes from the old English word 'bold' or 'blood.' They would say, "I blood you," rather than, "I bless you." 3. The sacrificial blood was placed upon Aaron's right earlobe, his right thumb and the big toe of his right foot. Then he was sprinkled with blood seven times, which had to remain upon him for seven days. a. Anointing the right ear with blood signified the importance of cleansing the ears so that we can hear God's voice and His Word. b. The right thumb represents the strength of the right hand, as well as favor. Benjamin, the son of Jacob's right hand, received an inheritance that was five times the size of his brothers'. Again, I must say that God is fair, but favor is not! c. The right thumb also allows us to grasp objects. We hold on to things with the thumb. God wants us to hold on to His hand and what He gives us and never let go. e. The right hand was anointed because God wants our work for Him to be anointed. Those who preach, sing, pray, worship, give, teach, or offer any other act of service to have His anointing. f. Before offering a gift to Him, you should have Blood on your hand. 4. The big toe of the right foot was chosen because the big toes give us balance. a. In Judges 1:7, Adoni-bezek, a cruel Canaanite king, defeated 70 kings by cutting off their thumbs and big toes to remove their balance and the ability to grasp anything. b. He amused himself by throwing scraps of food under his table and forcing these former kings to be fed there. 5. The parts of the ram were then placed in the hands of Aaron and his sons and waved before the Lord.
a. But before the animal parts were burned with fire, they were told to hold the sacrifice and feel its weight as they waved it before the Lord in worship. b. It's hypocritical for a minister to urge his people to work for God while he does nothing; or to teach his people to give while he takes everything he can get. c. As ministers, if we urge our people to worship regardless of the situation they face, we must also feel the weight of the sacrifice in our difficult times. 6. Leviticus, chapter 8, tells us that Aaron was not released to serve until the eighth day. a. In this passage, we can easily overlook the fact that Aaron's sons were not released to serve. Their anointing came at a later time, when they were embraced by their father, Aaron. b. The Oil upon Aaron's garments became the anointing that was transferred to his sons. When Aaron died, his robes, still saturated with the Oil of his anointing, were placed upon Eleazar, his eldest son. c. A new horn of oil was then poured upon the head of Eleazar, which became a double anointing for Aaron's son. d. If we want our children to have a greater anointing than our own, we must keep them close. Embrace them; keep them near the things of God. 7. When the horn of anointing Oil was poured over Aaron's head, the Oil was smeared over the crusted Blood on his right earlobe, his right thumb, and the big toe of his right foot. a. God wants us to have anointed hearing to listen to His Word, anointed hands to serve in His Kingdom, and anointed feet to walk through this world and to witness His glory. b. Aaron's body was sprinkled with Oil seven times. When your hearing, your work, and your hands are blessed, your whole life is blessed!
8. Moses performed the same ritual for Aaron's sons by smearing Oil upon the dried blood on their right earlobes, right thumbs, and big toes of their right feet and then sprinkled them with Oil. a. We all want to be anointed and blessed, but the Oil cannot be administered if the Blood has not been applied. b. If you want a ministry that is blessed, put it under the Blood. If you want your marriage, family, and finances to be blessed, put them under the Blood. c. Remember that it's not about us it's about Him. To receive that breakthrough in your ministry, family or business, put everything you have under the Blood!
