2 Commemoration of the Pontiff St. Sahak Partev On February 7th our church celebrated the Feast of Pontiff St. Sahak Partev who was the elder son of Catholicos St. Nersess the Great, and the last Catholicos of the Armenian Church who descended from the lineage of St. Gregory the Illuminator. He became Catholicos of All Armenians in 387 A.D., and reigned for an astounding 52 years. Being talented in music and educated in the rhetorical arts, philosophy and linguistics, St. Sahak greatly contributed to the development of Armenian national culture. He was the strongest advocate for the creation of an Armenian Alphabet, and became its chief patron. Following the creation of the Armenian Alphabet, St. Sahak and St. Mesrop opened a school for translators in the city of Vagharshapat (Etchmiadzin). There they begin the translation of the Holy Bible into Armenian and did it so perfectly, that centuries hence the Armenian Translation is called the "Queen Translation of the Breath of God". The first sentence translated from the Holy Bible is the opening verse of the Book of Proverbs: "To know wisdom and instruction, to perceive the words of understanding". Այսօրուան Աւետարանական Ընթերցուածքը Պօղոս Առաքեալի Տիտոսին ուղղուած նամակէն է (1:1-11) Ես, Պօղոս, Աստուծոյ ծառան եւ Յիսուս Քրիստոսի առաքեալը, կոչուած եմ Աստուծոյ ընտրեալները բերելու հաւատքի եւ ճշմարտութեան ճանաչումին, այն ճշմարտութեան որ աստուածպաշտութեամբ կը գտնուի, որպէսզի յաւիտենական կեանքի յոյսը ունենան: Յաւիտենական ժամանակներէն իսկ առաջ անսուտն Աստուած ինք խոստացաւ այդ կեանքը, իսկ հիմա յարմար ժամանակը հասած համարելով այդ խոստումը յայտնեց իր Աւետարանով, որուն քարոզութեան կոչուցայ մեր փրկիչ Աստուծոյն հրամանով: Ո վ Տիտոս, մեր հասարակաց հաւատքի ճամբով իմ հարազատ որդիս, թող Հայրն Աստուած եւ մեր փրկիչը Քրիստոս Յիսուս շնորհք եւ խաղաղութիւն պարգեւեն քեզի: Քեզ Կրետէ թողուցի, որպէսզի եկեղեցիին պէտքերը հոգաս եւ զայն կազմակերպես իւրաքանչիւր քաղաքի մէջ երէցներ կարգելով, ինչպէս որ քեզի պատուիրեցի: Երիցութեան թեկնածուն պէտք է անմեղադրելի ըլլայ, մէկ կնոջ այր ըլլայ եւ հաւատացեալ զաւակներ ունենայ, որոնք անառակութեանբ եւ անհնազանդութեամբ ամբաստանուած չըլլան: Արդարեւ, եպիսկոպոսը որպէս Աստուծոյ

3 տնտես պէտք է անմեղադրելի ըլլայ: Պէտք չէ յանդուգն, բարկացող, գինեմոլ, կռուազան կամ շահամոլ ըլլայ, այլ հիւրասէր, բարքն սիրող, զուսպ, արդար, մաքուր եւ ժուժկալ: Պէտք է ամրօրէն պահէ իր սորված վստահելի վարդապետութիւնը, որպէսզի կարենայ ուղիղ ուսուցումով յորդորել ուրիշները եւ յանդիմանել հակառակորդները: Որովհետեւ բազմաթիւ անհնազանդներ, դատարկախօսներ եւ միտք պղտորողներ կան, մանաւանդ հրէութենէ դարձածներուն մէջ որոնց բերանը պէտք է փակել, որովհետեւ անոնք ամբողջ տուներ կը քանդեն, շահամոլութենէ տարուած ուսուցանելով բաներ, որ պէտք չէ ուսուցանել: TODAY S SCRIPTURE READINGS The Epistle reading is from Titus 1:1-11 (p. 284 New Testament Holy Bible in red color) Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the faith of God s elect and the knowledge of the truth that is in accordance with godliness, in the hope of eternal life that God, who never lies, promised before the ages began in due time he revealed his word through the proclamation with which I have been entrusted by the command of God our Savior, To Titus, my loyal child in the faith we share: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior. I left you behind in Crete for this reason, so that you should put in order what remained to be done, and should appoint elders in every town, as I directed you: someone who is blameless, married only once, whose children are believers, not accused of debauchery and not rebellious. For a bishop, as God s steward, must be blameless; he must not be arrogant or quicktempered or addicted to wine or violent or greedy for gain; but he must be hospitable, a lover of goodness, prudent, upright, devout, and selfcontrolled. He must have a firm grasp of the word that is trustworthy in accordance with the teaching, so that he may be able both to preach with sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict it. There are also many rebellious people, idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision; they must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for sordid gain what it is not right to teach. Today, please take a moment to remember in your prayers Mary Sohigian & John Wolohojian as well as all the sick and recovering members of our community. May God touch his faithful servants with His healing hand, and grant them good health & recovery.
