Help us to be relevant and approachable to the community, to engage inclusively with them and each other, and to stay connected with you. Enable us to show Christ s unconditional love in action. This we ask in Jesus name, Amen. A Reading from the Book of Exodus Moses came down from Mount Sinai. As he came down from the mountain with the two tablets of the covenant in his hand, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God. When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, the skin of his face was shining, and they were afraid to come near him. But Moses called to them; and Aaron and all the leaders of the congregation returned to him, and Moses spoke with them. Afterwards all the Israelites came near, and he gave them in commandment all that the Lord had spoken with him on Mount Sinai. When Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil on his face; but whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he would take the veil off, until he came out; and when he came out, and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, the Israelites would see the face of Moses, that the skin of his face was shining; and Moses would put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with him. A Reading from The Second Letter to the Corinthians Since, then, we have such a hope, we act with great boldness, not like Moses, who put a veil over his face to keep the people of Israel from gazing at the end of the glory that was being set aside. But their minds were hardened. Indeed, to this very day, when they hear the reading of the old covenant, that same veil is still there, since only in Christ is it set aside. Indeed, to this very day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their minds; but when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit. Therefore, since it is by God s mercy that we are engaged in this ministry, we do not lose heart. We have renounced the shameful things that one hides; we refuse to practise cunning or to falsify God s word; but by the open statement of the truth we commend ourselves to the conscience of everyone in the sight of God. 2 Corinthians Hear the word of the Lord. 4 The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ. Now about eight days after these sayings Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. They appeared in glory and were speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. Just as they were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah not knowing what he said. While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him! At 10am, we also celebrate George s baptism, George, Wendy and Esther s confirmation, Lisa and Jenny s affirmation of baptismal vows, and we receive Karena into the Anglican Church where she has been worshipping and ministering for many years. And there is more: today we also bless a memorial quilt designed and created by Kathleen Campbell, and donated by The Reverend Colin and Mrs Dorothy Tunbridge, Bishop Bruce and Mrs Zandra Wilson, and The Reverend Anne Turner and her family, to celebrate the life and ministry of The Reverend Brian Turner, former Dean of this Cathedral Church of St Paul, Sale. There is a 2pm Service at Kilmany, and at 5pm we have a prayer for healing service! What a rich day, blending past and present, and celebrating the journey of faith in the context of mystery. We hear that the disciples, when they heard the voice of God, kept silent and told no one any of the things they had seen and heard. We too remain silent in the face of mystery. The thin place of transformation which we witness today in these special moments of baptism, confirmation, reaffirmation, reception and blessing, where heaven and earth meet, is hard to take in. Then, touched by glory, we return to the mundane, and the every day, blessed by the presence of Christ within us, the Christ who lived among ordinary people, who ate and drank and wept and prayed and engaged with people where they were. Today is a mountain top experience for some, hopefully a strengthening time for many, and for us all, an encouragement as we continue humble lives, as beloved children of God following Jesus, the chosen one, and listening to him. 5

6 Watching For The Kingfisher by Ann Lewin Prayer is like watching for the Kingfisher. All you can do is Be there where he is like to appear, and Wait. Often nothing much happens; There is space, silence and Expectancy. No visible signs, only the Knowledge that he s been there And may come again. Seeing or not seeing cease to matter, You have been prepared But when you ve almost stopped Expecting it, a flash of brightness Gives encouragement. Last Saturday we held our Chapter Planning Day. One group focussed on how we might nourish ourselves spiritually, and planned a number of events like dinners, walks, lifestyle seminars, as well as some talks, studies, and musical events. The second group looked at succession planning coming up with a needs analysis and ideas for team building. I look forward to sharing more with you as our plans unfold. Our Lenten Studies begin next week. Please sign up if you haven t already done so. The groups will study: Growing a Rule of Life, a Lenten program that explore a tool from monastic spirituality called a Rule of Life to cultivate your relationships with God, Self, Others, and Creation. This video series and the accompanying workbook from the Brothers of the Society of Saint John the Evangelist (SSJE) and the Centre for the Ministry of Teaching of the Virginia Theological Seminary are designed to help us recognise and respond to the activity of God in our own lives, in the lives of our faith communities, and in the life of the world. 7 Shrove Tuesday: We are sharing pancakes together this Tuesday 5 March at 6pm. Please join us. 6 March 10am and 5.30pm Ash Wednesday Holy Communion with Imposition of Ashes. At 5.30pm, Bishop Richard Treloar will conduct a service of lament and contrition as a part of our Ash Wednesday and in response to the Royal Commission findings into Sexual Abuse of Children in Institutions. In the Bishop s words, the 5.30pm service is an opportunity to acknowledge our collective failure as a church towards victims and survivors of sexual abuse in Anglican Institutions. The service is not intended as an occasion to apologise to victims and survivors but to lament the wrongs of the past. All are welcome to attend. Thanks to Esther for now working on Fridays. Food Scrap Bucket Those of you who have worked in the kitchen will have noticed the recent addition of a large blue plastic bucket for food scraps. This is to reduce the amount of organic waste we send to land-fill. Anybody is welcome to take the scraps home for their animals or compost bin and bring the bucket back. If it is not emptied by the weekend I will take it home. I am concerned also by the large amount of recyclable plastic waste we generate. A lot of this will be accepted by Coles and Woolworths. Basically if you can crush the plastic into a ball, or if it crunches when you do it should be accepted. This is a separate collection from the plastic material that is marked 1-6 and accepted by the council waste collection, and this will be collected in the kitchen in a supermarket' plastic bag.
