The words echo the Gospel of Luke, in which Mary sets out in haste to visit Elizabeth-a text we will hear proclaimed on the Fourth Sunday of Advent this year. We ask God to help us ensure that no earthly task holds us back from meeting Christ, but that we be guided by heavenly wisdom. In these days before Christmas, we need a little heavenly wisdom to help us see the true meaning of the festival of our Savior's birth. PATRICKS MEN'S CHILI COOKOFF: It's time to pull out your favorite chili recipe, give it a creative name and bring it to St. Pat's Men's Chili Cookoff, Thursday, January 17th at 6:30 pm in the parish center. All men of the parish are invited for this evening of food and fellowship. Even if you don't bring a pot of chili, you are still welcome to attend. This event is being hosted by St. Patrick's Men's Fellowship. GIVE TO THOSE WHO HAVE GIVEN A LIFETIME. NORTHWEST NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION: Carols and Cocoa--Just like when we were children--we are going out in the neighborhood singing Christmas carols and then coming back for cookies and hot cocoa. This Sunday, Dec.9th, meet at the NWNNA Resource Center, 1412 Ellis Blvd. N.W. at 1:00 PM till 3:00 PM Everyone welcome! Holiday Open House at the NWNNA Resource Center. THE THIRD OPTION: BUILDING BETTER MARRIAGES: All couples can benefit and grow in their marriage so join in any time for this on-going program designed for healthy or hurting marriages. We meet at St. Elizabeth's Church in Hiawatha. After the December 13th session which is "Understanding Expectations", we will meet January 10th and 24th, and continue on the 2 nd and 4 th Thursdays of each month. On January 10th, the session will be "Redefining the Power Struggle". Attend any or all sessions and there is no fee but a free will donation is welcome. 4 Religious Education Thanksgiving Service Project Thank you to the Religious Ed families who shared their blessings on November 14 by collecting food for the Metro Catholic Outreach. The RE classes made creations with the food items they collected. Barb Kane, the director of MCO, awarded 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd place class winners and then showed the students a short PowerPoint presentation on giving. Catholic Young Adults of Cedar Rapids (21-39) Catholic Young Adults of Cedar Rapids is a city wide ministry for all young adults (20s and 30s) that meets every Saturday night at 7:30pm in the St. Patrick Parish Hall Education Wing. The 20 pair of glasses will be given to the Lions Club and recycled to help needy people throughout the world. The 28 cell phones will be refurbished and given to the domestic violence shelter.
