3 The Word of God Opening Sentences Prayer book, p. 323 Gloria Prayer book, p. 324 Collect of the day Celebrant People Celebrant The Lord be with you. And with thy spirit. Let us pray. Grant us, O Lord, we pray thee, to trust in thee with all our heart; seeing that, as thou dost alway resist the proud who confide in their own strength, so thou dost not forsake those who make their boast of thy mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. First Reading Ezekiel 33:7-11 All sit. So you, mortal, I have made a sentinel for the house of Israel; whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. If I say to the wicked, O wicked ones, you shall surely die, and you do not speak to warn the wicked to turn from their ways, the wicked shall die in their iniquity, but their blood I will require at your hand. But if you warn the wicked to turn from their ways, and they do not turn from their ways, the wicked shall die in their iniquity, but you will have saved your life. Now you, mortal, say to the house of Israel, Thus you have said: Our transgressions and our sins weigh upon us, and we waste away because of them; how then can we live? Say to them, As I live, says the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from their ways and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways; for why will you die, O house of Israel? Reader People The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Psalm 119:33-40 Legem pone 33 Teach me, O LORD, the way of your statutes, * and I shall keep it to the end.

4 34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep your law; * I shall keep it with all my heart. 35 Make me go in the path of your commandments, * for that is my desire. 36 Incline my heart to your decrees * and not to unjust gain. 37 Turn my eyes from watching what is worthless; * give me life in your ways. 38 Fulfill your promise to your servant, * which you make to those who fear you. 39 Turn away the reproach which I dread, * because your judgments are good. 40 Behold, I long for your commandments; * in your righteousness preserve my life. Second Reading Romans 13:8-14 Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. The commandments, You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall not steal; You shall not covet ; and any other commandment, are summed up in this word, Love your neighbor as yourself. Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law. Besides this, you know what time it is, how it is now the moment for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we became believers; the night is far gone, the day is near. Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; let us live honorably as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy. Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires. Reader People The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

5 The Gospel: Matthew 18:15-20 All stand. Priest People The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew. Glory be to thee, O Lord. Jesus said, If another member of the church sins against you, go and point out the fault when the two of you are alone. If the member listens to you, you have regained that one. But if you are not listened to, take one or two others along with you, so that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If the member refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if the offender refuses to listen even to the church, let such a one be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, truly I tell you, if two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them. Priest People The Sermon The Gospel of the Lord. Praise be to thee, O Christ. A period of silence will be observed after the sermon. 7 Fall 2017 Christian Education Schedule and Descriptions: Sunday classes will start TODAY Sept. 10 at 9 a.m. and THIS Wednesday classes (& dinner) will start Sept. 13. Sundays (starting Sept. 10) 9 a.m.: Godly Play 1: An introductory Godly Play experience for Pre-schoolers and Lower Elementary Schoolers. Godly Play 2: The spiral curriculum deepens in this Godly Play class for upper elementary schoolers. Youth Sunday School: Using a variety of resources, Middle and High schoolers explore the lectionary scripture of the day and apply it to their own lives. Old Testament Studies: class offered to those whose interest lies in how the Old Testament impacts upon us today, in contemporary times. Forum Series: The Greatest of These is Love: Fall in Love with Paul - In this 6 week forum series, The Rev. Meghan Holland will be presenting Paul in 6 different ways. Have you always had a bit of a problem with Paul? Does something about Paul rub you the wrong way? Are you simply curious to hear more about the Epistles? This is the series for you. Come fall in love with Paul for the first time or all over again! Contiguous attendance is not necessary for the forum series. (DC Hall) 11:15 a.m.: Book of Common Prayer and Me: Dr. Richard Gildrie continues his in-depth exploration of the Book of Common Prayer. Wednesdays (starting Sept. 13) 5:45 p.m. The Gathering: Greet your friends and neighbors in the name of the Lord! Come, get settled for a filling (physically and spiritually) evening! 6 p.m. Dinner - a catered supper is provided by members Jim Vickers and Brian Schafer. This food is NOT TO BE MISSED! A suggested donation of $5/person or $10/family - pay more, pay less, pay none no one will be turned away! 6:45 p.m.: Youth Group - Middle and High Schoolers exploring spirituality and community through fun and fellowship. Salvation of Doctor Who: (September 13-October 4) This is a four week study with Mo. Meghan that draws on the long-running TV show and cult favorite Doctor Who to chart the intersection of faith and science. Participants in this study do not need to have seen an episode of Doctor Who. They don t need to understand why the TARDIS is larger on the inside. And they don t need to know what a Dalek looks like. All that being said, a viewing party may be arranged! The book, The Salvation of Doctor Who: A small group study connecting Christ and culture by Matt Rawle must be purchased before hand through the church or your favorite book seller. (Amazon has it listed for less than $12.) (Upper Level, Vestry Room) Mystery and Metaphor: (October 18th-November 29) The class, led by Michelle Blake, will explore the use of metaphor as we endeavor to understand and communicate our ideas about God, humanity s (and our own) place in the universe, God s love for the Creation and its members, and our participation in this intricate labyrinth of relationship. 7:45 p.m. Compline: Wrap up the evening by reuniting as a family for Compline, the Episcopal version of bedtime prayers.
