Prayers Requested for Month of November Your prayers are requested for the health and return of Archbishops Paul and John of Aleppo, Syria, who were abducted on Monday, May 22, Please pray for peace for the people of Syria. Syria is the home of our Patriarchate which is located on Straight Street in Damascus where St. Paul was taken to regain the sight he lost when encountering Jesus Christ (Acts 9) and has maintained continuous succession in the Apostolic Faith. The Nativity Fast is divided into two periods. The first period is November 15 through December 19 when the traditional fasting discipline (no meat, poultry, eggs, dairy, fish, wine and oil) is observed with allowance for wine and oil on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and for fish, wine and oil on Saturdays and Sundays. The second period is December 20 through 24 when the traditional fasting discipline (no meat, poultry, eggs, dairy, fish, wine and oil) is observed with allowance for wine and oil only, not fish, on Saturday and Sunday. 3 St. Andrew Parish Christmas Project On behalf of our parish, the Sisters of St. Photini Antiochian Women are sponsoring a Christmas Project for: Alfred Wasburn Center The Center serves the homeless and poor of our community by providing: food, showers, laundry facilities, clothing, and identification cards. You may choose a tag from our Christmas tree that will be located in front of the hallway mirror. Purchase or gather the item(s) and return them to Church by December 16th. To make a donation or learn more about this organization, you may also visit their website: alfredwashburn.org Saint Jesse, Bishop of Tsilkani in Georgia Saint Jesse of Tsilkani arrived in Georgia in the 6th century with the other Syrian fathers and companions of Saint John of Zedazeni. At the recommendation of Saint John of Zedazeni, Catholicos Evlavios of Kartli consecrated Saint Jesse as bishop of Tsilkani. The holy father traveled throughout his diocese preaching the Holy Gospel. Passing from city to city, from valley to mountain and back, the kind shepherd worked wonders, healed the infirm, cleansed lepers, cast out demons and raised those who were confined to their beds. Once, with the blessing of his teacher Saint John of Zedazeni, Saint Jesse performed a miracle to strengthen the people in their Faith. He descended to the bank of the Ksani River, followed by Fr. John and a multitude of people. He made the sign of the Cross over the river, touched his staff to the water and commanded: In the name of our Lord and God Jesus Christ, I command you, river: follow me! Immediately the river reversed its current and began to flow backwards, following in Saint Jesse s footsteps right up to Tsilkani Church. Those living near Mtskheta and Tsilkani who witnessed this miracle glorified the Lord Jesus Christ for bestowing upon one of His children the gift of wonder-working. When the Lord made known to the saint the day of his repose, he gathered his disciples and church servitors, bade them farewell, blessed them, partook of the Holy Mysteries of Christ, and reposed in peace.
