2 Thoughts from Fr. Hugh The Face of Christ Somewhere recently I saw a poster that looked like mosaic tile. From a distance it was a picture of Jesus. As I got closer I realized that each of the tiles was a photograph or picture of an individual there were hundreds of faces women, men and children of all races, nationalities every one of them and every one of us making up the picture of Jesus. Here at All Saints we delight in our diversity. As we look around on Sundays or other days, we do see that reflection of Christ s image in the faces that surround us. As I look out at the faces of us on Sunday mornings and on other occasions, I know that I am looking at what God in Jesus Christ looks like. I also know that any and every Christian community should look like this. As children of God in Christ we are to love God and love our neighbor and see Christ in each other. We are safe in faithfully knowing that our individual picture is part of Christ s face, part of the body of Christ, then every other person we encounter is also part of that beautiful picture of Christ s face and we must act accordingly. We sometimes refer to All Saints as a family. We are indeed children of God, and not only children but sisters and brothers in Christ and that makes us truly family. Hugh+ Thanks be to God for that! 4 Volunteers Needed for Beds Around the Altar (February 23-28) There are families in our county that have encountered issues in their lives, which have currently left them without a place to live. Hope South Florida is an organization that works with families who are awaiting space availability in a family shelter. While they are in transition, All Saints is one of many area churches that open up their spiritual home on a regular basis to help these families. During the week, volunteers play an essential role in helping the families cope during their evening stay. Individuals or families prepare a meal and visit with the families. Two chaperones spend the night to provide a reassuring & safe environment. The families are comforted knowing there is loving support for them in a Christian community. The next week we will be hosting this wonderful opportunity of Christian outreach is the week of February We are coordinating volunteers to bring evening meals to feed the families at 5:30 pm and chaperones to be on-site overnight with the families from 7 pm until 6 am in the church sanctuary. It is an awesome and rewarding feeling when you are able to help out families in this critical situation. Elijah said to Elisha, "Stay here; for the LORD has sent me as far as Bethel." But Elisha said, "As the LORD lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you." So they went down to Bethel. The company of prophets who were in Bethel came out to Elisha, and said to him, "Do you know that today the LORD will take your master away from you?" And he said, "Yes, I know; keep silent." Elijah said to him, "Elisha, stay here; for the LORD has sent me to Jericho." But he said, "As the LORD lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you." So they came to Jericho. The company of prophets who were at Jericho drew near to Elisha, and said to him, "Do you know that today the LORD will take your master away from you?" And he answered, "Yes, I know; be silent." He responded, "You have asked a hard thing; yet, if you see me as I am being taken from you, it will be granted you; if not, it will not." As they continued walking and talking, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them, and Elijah ascended in a whirlwind into heaven. Elisha kept watching and crying out, "Father, father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!" But when he could no longer see him, he grasped his own clothes and tore them in two pieces. 7 Psalm 50: 1-6 A READING FROM 2 Corinthians 4:3-6 Even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For we do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus' sake. For it is the God who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. THE SERMON THE NICENE CREED We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Officiant As we allow the Word made flesh to shine a new light in our hearts, let us offer prayers to God who will lead us with joy in the light of his glory. Intercessor For the peace of the world, and for our unity in Christ. Intercessor For the ministry of all the Baptized, all who minister in Christ, and for all the holy people of God. Intercessor For the church throughout the world and the faithful in every place. Intercessor For the leaders of the nations and all in authority. Intercessor For justice, peace, and freedom among peoples of the earth. Intercessor For travelers, for the sick and the suffering, for the hungry and the oppressed, and for those in prison. Intercessor For those who have fallen asleep in Christ and for all the departed (pause for people to say the names of those who have died), we pray. Intercessor Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad. Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be. Intercessor Give comfort to those who mourn. Intercessor For our deliverance from all affliction, strife, and need (Pause for the people to say their concerns), we pray. Intercessor We give thanks for those many unearned blessings given us. (Pause for the people to offer thanks), we pray. People Gracious and loving God thank you for the blessing of All Saints Episcopal Church where we come together as a community of faith to worship and serve you. Open our hearts and minds to help us love, respect and appreciate one another. Almighty God, grant us courage and strength in this time of change. Lord, Hear us. Intercessor Joining our voices with the blessed Virgin Mary and Joseph, for John the Baptist, and all the saints and angels of God, let us offer ourselves and one another to the living God through Christ. People Officiant CONFESSION OF SIN To you, O Lord. All-powerful God, increase our strength of will for doing good that Christ may find an eager welcome at his coming and call us to his side in the kingdom of heaven, where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
