THE SALUTATION AND COLLECT OF THE DAY The Lord be with you. And with thy spirit. Let us pray. LESSED Lord, who hast caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning: Grant that we may in B such wise hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that, by patience and comfort of thy holy Word, we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which thou hast given us in our Savior Jesus Christ; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

THE LITURGY OF THE WORD All sit for THE LESSON: 1 Samuel 1:4-20 N the day when Elkanah sacrificed, he would give portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and O daughters; and, although he loved Hannah, he would give Hannah only one portion, because the LORD had closed her womb. And her rival used to provoke her sorely, to irritate her, because the LORD had closed her womb. So it went on year by year; as often as she went up to the house of the LORD, she used to provoke her. Therefore Hannah wept and would not eat. And Elkanah, her husband, said to her, Hannah, why do you weep? And why do you not eat? And why is your heart sad? Am I not more to you than ten sons? After they had eaten and drunk in Shiloh, Hannah rose. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat beside the doorpost of the temple of the LORD. She was deeply distressed and prayed to the LORD, and wept bitterly. And she vowed a vow and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thy maidservant, and remember me, and not forget thy maidservant, but wilt give to thy maidservant a son, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch his head. As she continued praying before the LORD, Eli observed her mouth. Hannah was speaking in her heart; only her lips moved, and her voice was not heard; therefore Eli took her to be a drunken woman. And Eli said to her, How long will you be drunken? Put away your wine from you. But Hannah answered, No, my lord, I am a woman sorely troubled; I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I have been pouring out my soul before the LORD. Do not regard your maidservant as a base woman, for all along I have been speaking out of my great anxiety and vexation. Then Eli answered, Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have made to him. And she said, Let your maidservant find favor in your eyes. Then the woman went her way and ate, and her countenance was no longer sad. They rose early in the morning and worshiped before the LORD; then they went back to their house at Ramah. And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the LORD remembered her; and in due time Hannah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Samuel, for she said, I have asked him of the LORD. The Choir sings PSALM 16 Conserva me, Domine Chant: A. Herbert Brewer ( ) 1 Protect me, O God, for I take refuge in you; * I have said to the LORD, You are my Lord, my good above all other. 2 All my delight is upon the godly that are in the land, * upon those who are noble among the people. 3 But those who run after other gods * shall have their troubles multiplied. 4 Their libations of blood I will not offer, * nor take the names of their gods upon my lips. 5 O LORD, you are my portion and my cup; * it is you who uphold my lot. 6 My boundaries enclose a pleasant land; * indeed, I have a goodly heritage. 7 I will bless the LORD who gives me counsel; * my heart teaches me, night after night. 8 I have set the LORD always before me; * because he is at my right hand I shall not fall. 9 My heart, therefore, is glad, and my spirit rejoices; * my body also shall rest in hope.

10 For you will not abandon me to the grave, * nor let your holy one see the Pit. 11 You will show me the path of life; * in your presence there is fullness of joy, and in your right hand are pleasures for evermore. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit: As it was in the beginning, is now, * and will be for ever. Amen. THE EPISTLE: Hebrews 10:11-25 VERY priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away E sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, then to wait until his enemies should be made a stool for his feet. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying, This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds, then he adds, I will remember their sins and their misdeeds no more. Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin. Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way which he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. All stand and sing the hymn. Stanzas 1 and 2 precede the reading of the Holy Gospel; stanza 3 follows. HYMN AT THE GOSPEL PROCESSION 686: Come, thou fount of every blessing Nettleton THE HOLY GOSPEL: Mark 13:1-8 Gospeler The Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark. Glory be to thee, O Lord. S Jesus came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, Look, Teacher, what wonderful stones A and what wonderful buildings! And Jesus said to him, Do you see these great buildings? There will not be left here one stone upon another, that will not be thrown down. And as he sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign when these things are all to be accomplished? And Jesus began to say to them, Take heed that no one leads you astray. Many will come in my name, saying, I am he! and they will lead many astray. And when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places, there will be famines; this is but the beginning of the birth-pangs. Gospeler The Gospel of the Lord. Praise be to thee, O Christ. At the invitation of the preacher, all sit for THE HOMILY The Reverend Elizabeth F. Keeler

All stand and say THE NICENE CREED I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible; And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried; and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of the Father; and he shall come again, with glory, to judge both the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end. And I believe in the Holy Ghost the Lord, and Giver of Life, who proceedeth from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spake by the Prophets. And I believe one holy Catholic and Apostolic Church; I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE FORM III The says Let us pray. The people then kneel. Father, we pray for thy holy Catholic Church; That we all may be one. Grant that every member of the Church may truly and humbly serve thee; That thy Name may be glorified by all people. We pray for all bishops, priests, and deacons; That they may be faithful ministers of thy Word and Sacraments.

We pray for all who govern and hold authority in the nations of the world; That there may be justice and peace on the earth. Give us grace to do thy will in all that we undertake; That our works may find favor in thy sight. Have compassion on those who suffer from any grief or trouble; That they may be delivered from their distress. Give to the departed eternal rest; Let light perpetual shine upon them. We praise thee for thy saints who have entered into joy; May we also come to share in thy heavenly kingdom. Let us pray for our own needs and those of others. A period of silence is kept. Then the adds a concluding collect. THE CONFESSION OF SIN AND ABSOLUTION The says Let us humbly confess our sins unto Almighty God. and M OST merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against thee in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved thee with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of thy Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in thy will, and walk in thy ways, to the glory of thy Name. Amen. The says LMIGHTY God, our heavenly Father, who of his great mercy hath promised forgiveness of sins to all A those who with hearty repentance and true faith turn unto him, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. THE PEACE The peace of the Lord be always with you. And with thy spirit. THE GREETING AND ANNOUNCEMENTS All stand and greet one another in the name of the Lord. Then all sit for

T HE LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST THE OFFERTORY The begins the Offertory with a sentence of Scripture. As the alms are collected and the altar prepared, the Choir sings ANTHEM: Judge eternal UDGE eternal, throned in splendor, Lord of lords and King of kings, with thy living fire of judgment purge J this land of bitter things; solace all its wide dominion with the healing of thy wings. Still the weary folk are pining for the hour that brings release, and the city s crowded clangor cries aloud for sin to cease; and the homesteads and the woodlands plead in silence for their peace. Crown, O God, thine own endeavor; cleave our darkness with thy sword; feed all those who do not know thee with the richness of thy word; cleanse the body of this nation through the glory of the Lord. Words: Henry Scott Holland ( ), alt. Music: Gerre Hancock ( ) All stand and sing THE DOXOLOGY AT THE PRESENTATION P RAISE God, from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; praise him above, ye heavenly host: praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Old 100th THE GREAT THANKSGIVING EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II The Lord be with you. And with thy spirit. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up unto the Lord. Let us give thanks unto our Lord God. It is meet and right so to do. The proceeds I T is very meet, right, and our bounden duty, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto thee, O Lord, holy Father, almighty, everlasting God. Here a Proper Preface is said. Therefore with Angels and Archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify thy glorious Name; evermore praising thee, and saying, All sing SANCTUS AND BENEDICTUS QUI VENIT The music may be found at S-114 in The Hymnal Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts: Heaven and earth are full of thy glory. Glory be to thee, O Lord Most High. Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

The people kneel. Then the continues LL glory be to thee, O Lord our God, for that thou didst create heaven and earth, and didst make us in A thine own image; and, of thy tender mercy, didst give thine only Son Jesus Christ to take our nature upon him, and to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption. He made there a full and perfect sacrifice for the whole world; and did institute, and in his holy Gospel command us to continue, a perpetual memory of that his precious death and sacrifice, until his coming again. For in the night in which he was betrayed, he took bread; and when he had given thanks to thee, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take, eat, this is my Body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. Likewise, after supper, he took the cup; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the remission of sins. Do this, as oft as ye shall drink it, in remembrance of me. Wherefore, O Lord and heavenly Father, we thy people do celebrate and make, with these thy holy gifts which we now offer unto thee, the memorial thy Son hath commanded us to make; having in remembrance his blessed passion and precious death, his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension; and looking for his coming again with power and great glory. And we most humbly beseech thee, O merciful Father, to hear us, and, with thy Word and Holy Spirit, to bless and sanctify these gifts of bread and wine, that they may be unto us the Body and Blood of thy dearly-beloved Son Jesus Christ. And we earnestly desire thy fatherly goodness to accept this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, whereby we offer and present unto thee, O Lord, our selves, our souls and bodies. Grant, we beseech thee, that all who partake of this Holy Communion may worthily receive the most precious Body and Blood of thy Son Jesus Christ, and be filled with thy grace and heavenly benediction; and also that we and all thy whole Church may be made one body with him, that he may dwell in us, and we in him; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord; By whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Ghost all honor and glory be unto thee, O Father Almighty, world without end. AMEN. THE LORD S PRAYER And now, as our Savior Christ hath taught us, we are bold to say, O and UR Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD The breaks the consecrated bread. A period of silence is kept. Then is said Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia.

All sing AGNUS DEI The music may be found at S-158 in The Hymnal O Lamb of God, that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. O Lamb of God, that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. O Lamb of God, that takest away the sins of the world, grant us thy peace. The offers the following invitation. EHOLD the Lamb of God; behold him that taketh away the sins of the world. B The Gifts of God for the of God. THE COMMUNION All baptized Christians are welcome to receive the sacrament of Holy Communion. Gluten-free wafers are available. Please make your need known at the altar rail. Those who do not wish to receive Holy Communion may come forward for a blessing. Please indicate this to the priest by crossing your arms over your chest. ANTHEM: O salutaris hostia O During the administration of Holy Communion, the Choir sings salutaris hostia, quae cæli pandis ostium, bella premunt hostilia: Da robur fer auxilium. O saving Victim, opening wide the gate of heaven to us below, our foes press on from every side, thine aid supply, thy strength bestow. Words: attr. St. Thomas Aquinas (1225?-1274) Music: Thomas Tallis (c ) All sing HYMN 318: Here, O my Lord, I see thee face to face Nyack After Communion, all kneel and say THE POSTCOMMUNION PRAYER LMIGHTY and everliving God, we most heartily thank thee for that thou dost feed us, in these holy A mysteries, with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of thy Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and dost assure us thereby of thy favor and goodness towards us; and that we are very members incorporate in the mystical body of thy Son, the blessed company of all faithful people; and are also heirs, through hope, of thy everlasting kingdom. And we humbly beseech thee, O heavenly Father, so to assist us with thy grace, that we may continue in that holy fellowship, and do all such good works as thou hast prepared for us to walk in; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost, be all honor and glory, world without end. Amen. THE BLESSING The blesses the people; the people respond Amen. THE DISMISSAL Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. Thanks be to God.
