Sometimes we misunderstand it with the Church Support Fund. Though it also supports Church itself, it has deeper meanings. The Offertory, or Collection, at Holy Qurbana, is an integral part of the Sunday liturgy because it is an expression of our gratitude to God for the blessings He has given us to return a portion of them back to Him for use by His Church. By our baptism as Catholics, we are called to be stewards of God s gifts to us, to use them in ways that build up our families, our parish, our community, and our world. In that stewardship, we are encouraged to be deliberate and intentional in weighing our various obligations against our limited resources as we decide where we spend those resources of time and money and effort. When we give to our parish and to the greater Church, we are witnessing to our children and to the world about our values and about what s important to us. The parish offers various methods by which parishioners can support her mission through various offerings and collections. Each method has unique recipients and benefits both to the giver and the parish. As we are a Mission we need to offer Church Support Fund, which we share $50 per family per month other than the Sunday offertory. ACTION: 1. The collection during Sunday Holy Qurbana and other Special Holy Days is part of my personal participation in the Celebration. Think and pray about; how I am preparing for it at home. Prepare all members of the Family for it. It is a physical sharing action in the Holy Qurbana. Don't forget it for life. 2. Teach our children to do this from the very day child enters the Church by handling them the bill for physical offering to be given with their tiny hands. Remind and teach them every Sunday to do this lifelong wherever they may be. 3. Adults could think about a $10 bill to be offered. The young above high school could think about a $5 bill to be offered; may need to get it from parents. All other children shall be given $1 bill to be offered during the Holy Qurbana. 4. Catechism Teachers shall coordinate with parents to see children handles it safely, meaningfully and devoutly in the Church. 5. Not only in our Church; wherever we celebrate Holy Qurbana we could be steady in this offering. 6. More could be offered according to our capacity and blessings we receive from God. 7. Even when we go home (Kerala), think in the same way (range) to offer there too as God had been gracious to us to be in this country. 8. We should do this in an organized way with a devotion that the prayerful offering of Holy Qurbana become fruitful personally and spiritually for individual and family as a whole. 9. Talk to each other regarding this and become witness to the community. Help the ignorant to come to the true knowledge about Sunday offering. 10. Our overall expense in the week can be a reminder for us to offer with Holy Qurbana. The whole family giving may equal to a fill of fuel for our vehicle; consider it as a fuel fill for our family's Spiritual Welfare for the week. Keep that extra fill happening always. 4 PILGRIM STATUE VISITATION - UPDATE FROM MINISTRY We have successfully completed one round of Pilgrimage of the Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima in our parish. The Pilgrimage will start after this year. Presently the Statue is with the Pilgrim Statue Ministry Group. Those who want special intention visitation may contact the coordinator to have the statue. This special intention is to be updated with Achan for prayers. The coordinators will hand over the statue for them on Sundays at the church. A minimum of a week will be the duration of Special Intention Visitation. HOLY FATHER S INTENTIONS FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL Evangelization The Mission of Laity That the lay faithful may fulfill their specific mission, by responding with creativity to the challenges that face the world today. SAINTS CORNER St. Joan of Arc St. Joan of Arc is the patron saint of soldiers and of France. Born of a fairly well-to-do peasant couple in Domremy-Greux southeast of Paris, Joan was only 12 when she experienced a vision and heard voices that she later identified as Saints Michael the Archangel, Catherine of Alexandria, and Margaret of Antioch. During the Hundred Years War, Joan led French troops against the English and recaptured the cities of Orléans and Troyes. This enabled Charles VII to be crowned as king in Reims in Captured near Compiegne the following year, Joan was sold to the English and placed on trial for heresy and witchcraft. Professors at the University of Paris supported Bishop Pierre Cauchon of Beauvis, the judge at her trial; Cardinal Henry Beaufort of Winchester, England, participated in the questioning of Joan in prison. In the end, she was condemned for wearing men s clothes. The English resented France s military success to which Joan contributed. On this day in 1431, Joan was burned at the stake in Rouen, and her ashes were scattered in the Seine River. A second Church trial 25 years later nullified the earlier verdict, which was reached under political pressure. Remembered by most people for her military exploits, Joan had a great love for the sacraments, which strengthened her compassion toward the poor. Popular devotion to her increased greatly in 19th-century France and later among French soldiers during World War I. Theologian George Tavard writes that her life offers a perfect example of the conjunction of contemplation and action because her spiritual insight is that there should be a unity of heaven and earth. Burned at the stake as a heretic after a politically-motivated trial, Joan was beatified in 1909 and canonized in Joan of Arc has been the subject of many books, plays, operas and movies.
