2 vwhat is the most liberating thing you can do? vwhat s the greatest spiritual warfare you can do? vwhat causes the greatest defeat of Satan in your life? vwhat did Jesus die for and what did the cross accomplish?

3 In your anger do not sin. Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. (Eph. 4:26, 27). If you let the sun go down while you are still angry and don t forgive you give the devil a foothold in your life. What happens in your life if you give the devil a foothold?

4 The Need to Forgive vgod tells us to forgive vknow extent of our debt vit is the way God deals with us vour debt is cancelled vforgive as God forgave you vall our sins are forgiven vsin has been taken care of once for all and vis no longer an issue IT IS FINISHED!!!

5 But where sin increased, grace increased all the more. (Rom. 5:20)

6 BUT We Want Justice vreally? If so we re in deep trouble vdon t judge or you will be judged (Matt. 7:1) vwho are we to judge another? (Rom 14:4) vunforgiveness is the opposite of grace vgrace cannot exist apart from sin vunforgiveness = Anger and bitterness, & v Keeps us in bondage vmost don t want justice, but revenge

7 Why Won t We Forgive? vit is an issue of law. vwe want justice - done to other person vwe want them to pay (suffer). vwe want the person who hurt us to be judged and condemned. vwe have fallen from grace and are living under law when we don t forgive vthe law brings death & condemnation.

8 Satan s Plan to Keep You in Bondage is Unforgiveness You ought to forgive and comfort him so that no advantage would be taken of us by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his schemes. (2 Cor. 2:7, 11). vreally? Many Christians must be ignorant vbecause many are angry and won t forgive vdo you know that unforgiveness is one of Satan s schemes to keep you in bondage vdo we really know? What will you do?

9 How Do We Treat Sin? vjustice demands punishment vwe become judges of who is wrong, but vdon t judge or you will be judged (Matt. 7:1) vwho are you to judge God s servant? vjudgment is over and is no more vforgive as God forgave you vmust give grace as we have been given it

10 Are You Angry? uhave you been hurt, wronged? uabused, taken advantage of? uof course, we all have ugod has one solution for anger FORGIVENESS Forgive as the Lord forgave you (Col. 3:13) But that s not fair. Do you want God to be fair to you or to forgive you?

11 How Many Times Must I Forgive One Who Hurts Me? vwrong QUESTION! - Missed the Point vwhy didn t servant forgive the other one? vnever received his own forgiveness vcannot extend grace until we receive it vthe unforgiven becomes the unforgiving vsee yourself as guilty, unforgiven? vaccept yourself just the way you are?

12 To Accept Yourself vyou must forgive yourself vdoes God accept you just the way you are? vforgive yourself on the basis God does vthe CROSS NOT your behavior & failure vforgive yourself and accept yourself and it vwill change all your relationships overnight vyou will not experience freedom until you vaccept yourself just the way you are

13 Some Will Not Forgive Self vwhy? Too proud to receive grace vare living under law vperformancebased acceptance vwant all to do right vmakes the cross of no effect and vputs you in bondage Lord I thank you that I m not like other men.

14 The Issue is Always Grace The Cross was the Worst Evil Ever Done But God used it for greatest good JESUS Father, forgive them Stephen Lord, do not hold this sin against them

15 But What About the Hurt and Pain Done to Us? Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows (Isa. 53:4) vall the things that caused us grief vevery sorrow, loss & disappointment vall the hurt, abuse, betrayal, damage vall the wrongs and evil done to us vas we forgive the pain will go away

16 To Be Free of Your Past Two Things Have to Happen 1. FORGIVE - It frees you from the hurt, pain and damage done to you 2. See the past in the light of who you are in Christ

17 False Identity We Have is Related to Unforgiveness vfalse identity comes from hurts done to us vthe hurt, abuse, tell us lies about ourself vyou will not be able to appropriate your identity in Christ vuntil you forgive those who have hurt you & vforgive them for how it made us feel: vunaccepted, unloved. unworthy, insecure, inferior, inadequate, stupid, bad, guilty vthe feelings form our false identity

18 Your False Identity ucomes from the the trauma done to you uthat made you feel inadequate, insecure, inferior, unloved, unworthy & unaccepted, uyou need to forgive one who has hurt you ubefore you believe who you are in Christ uunforgiveness is Satan s way to keep you in bondage and make you miserable uforgiveness is God s way to set you free

19 Forgiveness is 1. Tolerating sin or enabling it. 2. Not seeking revenge or repayment. 3. Justifying someone s behavior. 4. Assigning guilt. 5. Not feeling angry anymore. 6. Asking God to forgive them. 7. Acting like it s no big deal - denying it.

20 Forgiveness is 8. Acting like you re not angry. 9. Praying for those who have hurt you. 10. Saying Let s just forget about it. 11. Forgetting about it (repressing it). 12. Passage of time leads to forgiveness 13. Relationship is restored - takes two to restore a relationship.

21 What is Forgiveness? üa Choice - üa Decision of the Will üan Act of Faith üresolving to live with the consequences of another s sin. ünot using the past against them.

22 Where is the Justice? IT IS IN THE CROSS OF CHRIST Forgiveness is between you & God Satan wants you to focus on the person And on the hurt it caused you But the real issue is your relationship With God, but it affects all relationships And you can t be free until you forgive

24 What causes the greatest defeat of Satan? Forgiveness What keeps you in bondage? Unforgiveness Why are so few Christians free? Unforgiveness

25 What Did the Cross Accomplish?

26 Steps to Forgiveness 1. Ask God to show you who to forgive 2. Face the hurt and hate painful emotions 3. Forgive for how it made you feel 4. Decide to bear the burden of sin 5. Take it to the cross it is already forgiven 6. Forgiveness is now a choice 7. FORGIVE what was done to you & how it made you feel. Don t say you can t. Who are you? Is Christ your life? Does He live in you? Are you in Christ? You are a forgiver.

27 Identity is The Issue If you know your true identity, you will forgive You are Christ in you, Christ is a forgiver You are forgiven & complete in Christ You re a lover, whether you feel like it Sin has been taken care of & is no more Don t forgive & you are living under a lie, wrath and condemnation (Satan s control) Forgive and experience your freedom
