2 When Carlos won a trophy at his school s art contest, he wanted to be humble. What could he say that would be humble? (Tell everyone else they did a good job, not brag about himself, etc.) Can a little baby make his own food or drive to the places he needs to go? (No) Right! He needs his parents to help him. In the same way, when we realize that we need God s help, it makes us more humble. Then, when we are humble, Jesus will bless us! Cameron made a presentation to his class about how his awesomeness has increased each nine weeks of the school year. Do you think Cameron is being humble? (No) If we lived in a kingdom, you might say that the king is the most important person. Do you know who Jesus says is the most important person in the kingdom of heaven? (Allow responses) He says that those who are humble are the most important! In a kingdom, when people would be humble and bow before the king, he would bless them by giving them what they asked. When we are humble and bow to pray to God, what do you think He will do? (Bless us, give us what we ask if it s what He thinks is best) If one of your friends needs help, how can you be humble when you are talking to your friend? (Listen instead of talking the whole time, think of him/her as more important than yourself, give him/her advice, etc.)

4 If one of your friends needs help with her math homework, but you want to go play outside, how can you be humble? (Choose to help your friend) Right! That s treating your friend like she is more important than you! Who is the most humble person who ever lived? (Jesus) Where can you learn more about being humble? (The Bible) In a kingdom, a crown is given to the person who is most important. When we are being humble, do we think of OURSELVES as most important or OTHERS as most important? (Others) Let s say you made the best grade out of your whole class. Would saying, I m smart and everyone else isn t! be humble? (No) What could you say instead? (Allow responses) If your family is going to Disney World over the summer, but your friend s family couldn t afford to go, what would be the humble thing to do: brag about how great your trip was to your friend OR get your friend a gift while you re there? (Get your friend a gift while you re there) Look at the boy in this picture. What place did he come in? (First) When we are being humble, we put Jesus in first place, other people in second place, and ourselves in third place!

6 If someone is making fun of you, would it be more humble of you to yell at them or kindly ask them to stop? (Kindly ask them to stop) What are some ways that a knight would be humble? (Thinks of the king and kingdom as more important than himself, risks his life to protect others, etc.) Let s all say what we need to know in our quietest whisper: I m Blessed When I m Humble! Which of these knights do you think would be chosen as the leader of all the knights: 1. One who says, I don t care about any of you! 2. One who says, The rest of the army is more important than myself. 3. One who says, I m the awesomest. (Number 2) Do you think Jesus can see if you are being humble or not? (Yes) Give someone beside you a high five and tell them what we need to know today! Jesus is so cool that He can see everything we think, say, and do. And what does He promise to do when He sees us being humble? (Bless us) I m Blessed When I m Humble!

8 These two kids are excited because they know that Jesus blesses us when we are humble! If you can be humble, give me a thumbs up! If your teacher made a mistake while she was grading your paper, should you stand on your desk and shout, You re wrong and I m right!? (No) Right! The humble thing to do would be to tell her quietly after school. Which boy is ahead in this race? (Allow responses) If you win a race, how can you be humble toward the other racers? (Tell them they did a good job, give them high fives, help your teammates practice more, etc.) Let s say someone gossiped and told you a big secret about another person. You don t want your friends to think you re no fun, so you tell that secret to them, too. In that situation, did you think of yourself as more important or the person the secret was about? (Yourself) In the Bible Story we read today, why did King Solomon give his mother, Bathsheba, a throne beside his? (Because she was humble, he wanted to bless her) When Queen Bathsheba was humble, she was blessed. When we are humble, we will be blessed, too! At school, you bragged to everyone about what an amazing swimmer you are and told them that you were better than everyone else. Was that being humble? (No)
