1 Peace Scuba: A good-natured angelfish who is friend of all; Scuba is boyish but wise. Willy: An overly intellectual whale who has a large brain but a small body especially for a whale. Oscar: A dumb octopus who has a knack for causing chaos. 1

2 (Scuba swims up to the stage alone. Some coral and kelp come up from the stage to show that this is underwater.) Scuba: Hello, boys and girls. Welcome under the sea! My name is Scuba! Today our question is, How can I have peace with God? An interesting topic, is it not? To explore this topic, we will be going to the beautiful coral reef where you will be able to meet our undersea scholar, Willy the whale, and Oscar the octopus. Before we leave, though, lets go over our verse: But God commendeth his love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Now we ll discuss that verse at the coral reef. But while on our way I can point out some of our aquatic beauties. If you look to the right you will see the delightful kaleidoscope of seaweed adorning the (voice trails off as he goes below. As he leaves Willy and Oscar come up) Willy: Cease and desist, you insufferable cephalopod! Oscar: (from behind) I wanna piece of you, Willy. Willy: (nervously stopping) Really, Oscar, I can t commence to conceptualize for what reason you have unleashed your tempestuousness on myself. Oscar: You know perfectly well why. Because you told. You promised me you would never tell my secret, and then you told the entire class. Willy: (feigned ignorance) I don t seem to be able to recall what secret it is that I would know. Oscar: (whispering) That I never passed kindergarten. Willy: Oh! That secret! It was just the proverbial slip of the tongue. Really. Oscar: Hey, no excuses, Willy. Because of you, the entire class laughed at me. But they are going to have something else to laugh at tomorrow--when I m finished with you. See if I trust you with a secret again. Willy: Now, Oscar, perhaps we could pacify this calamity peacefully. Oscar: No chance, Willy. I want a showdown! Willy: A showdown? You couldn t possibly mean by a showdown that practice of meeting another opponent and combatting them one-on-one on the sole basis of physical strength, could you? Oscar: That s what I mean, Willy. Meet me at the coral reef in an hour. Willy: But but but Oscar: One hour, Willy! Willy: Oh, no! 2

3 (Both go under. Coral surfaces and a sign comes up saying Coral Reef one hour later. Oscar and Willy enter on opposite sides of the stage.) Oscar: Come on, you dirty traitor! I wanna a piece of you! Willy: (feigned confidence) Go ahead! I am well-prepared for your tactics. I am sure that intelligence will ultimately usurp your brutish force. (weakly) So I suggest that you just-uhgive it up right now? And we can both-uh-go back friends now? Oscar: No way, Willy. You deserve to be breaded and fried for what you did to me! Scuba: (coming up) Oh, there you are, kids! Oh, Willy and Oscar! Where have you guys been? Oscar: Are you ready to die, Willy? Willy: No, not really, maybe we should postpone until I m feeling more disposed to your proposition. Scuba: Ready to dye? Willy are you becoming a hairdresser? Oscar: Maybe in the afterlife, Scuba. I m gonna take care of this piece of blubber once and for all for telling my secret. Scuba: What secret? Willy: He neglected to finish kindergarten. Oscar: WILLY! That s it! I m taking you apart. (Oscar begins to charge) Willy: No, please! Scuba: Willy! Willy: Stop! Scuba: Oscar! Willy: Help! 3

4 Scuba: (moving between the charging Oscar and the terrified Willy) Wait! Take me! (Both stop and look at Scuba.) Willy: What d you say, Scuba? Oscar: Scuba, this doesn t concern you. Just get out of the way. Willy: Oh, you can stay right there! Scuba: No. I mean it. Take it out on me. Tear me apart fin by fin! Broil me! Break me! Shake n Bake me! I m willing to lay down my life for my friends. Oscar: Scuba, now that ain t fair. Willy: I am reticent to admit it, but Oscar is right. You have done nothing wrong. Scuba: I stand firm. I will not move until you take your anger out on me. Whatever Willy s done wrong I want you to punish me for it. Go ahead. Fillet me and have an ole-fashioned fish fry! Oscar: But, Scuba! Willy: Scuba, what notion has stimulated this unprecedented behavior? Scuba: I ll tell you what notion has mistulated this unpred I ll tell you what s gotten into me I have been studying up on the question that we were supposed to answer for the boys and girls, How can we have peace with God?, and I just learned the most incredible story about how Jesus Christ came and took the punishment for the sins of the entire human world so that they could be friends with God. And, I just thought well, I know it s not the same thing, but I just thought maybe if I took your punishment, you guys could be friends again Willy: (crying, swimming to Scuba) Oh, Scuba! I hadn t the faintest notion that you had an interest! Oscar: (crying, swimming to Scuba) I m sorry, Little Buddy! Scuba: Are you friends again?! Willy: Oscar? 4

5 Oscar: Oh, alright! It looks like there won t be any whale burgers after all. I m sorry Willy. Willy: I can pardon you, Oscar, and I apologize to you. Oscar: Oh! You re forgiven, Willy. Willy: That was wonderful of you Scuba to intercede on our behalf. Actually, your work would have been called justification which means to make reconciliation through the sacrifice of an innocent third party Oscar: Or as I like to say, justification is to be made just as if I d never sinned (Oscar laughs at his own joke) Scuba: Just as I took the anger of Oscar, so Christ took the anger of God against the sin of the world. And all that you, boys and girls, must do is accept Christ s sacrifice. With Christ, God no longer sees your sin, for it has been paid by Jesus on the cross. And that s what our verse means. Willy: But God commendeth his love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Scuba: Alright, everyone. That s all the time we have for today. Willy: Farewell for now, my juvenile pupils! Oscar: Yeah, bye-bye! (All puppets leave. End of skit.) 5
