1 New Freedom Lions Club Newsletter We Serve Chartered 1933 Dist. 14C, Zone 4-B President, Lion Tom Foley December, 2018 ~ Roar from the President ~ Hello Lions, As my family was leaving Disney World, my daughter waved and said, "Goodbye Minnie!" My son waved and said, "Goodbye Mickey!" I waved and said, "Goodbye money!" I began with this joke to relate to those who have done the same, and as my wife and I consider a return to that magical place. Although we haven t discussed it, I believe we would agree (how often does THAT happen in marriage?) that we would choose to go not b/c we enjoy saying goodbye to our money, but as an attempt to hold on to our daughter s youth, innocent beliefs and relative zest for all things fun. I don t mean to sound sad about her evolvement. On the contrary, I am rather enthusiastic about her level of understanding and awareness developing further, but I am not willing to miss out on embracing her moments in the now. So, why am I sharing these thoughts? Well, I suppose it s probably more for me than for any reader of this column.

2 ~ The Roar ~ (cont.) As I walked through New Freedom late yesterday morning, I had the pleasure of witnessing people either preparing their homes for the Holidays by cleaning their yards of leaves, or hanging lights and setting out their seasonal decor. I caught myself feeling the ugh of knowing I was behind my own schedule of similar Holiday planning. Now, to answer the question I posed, I would like to offer my encouragement to not let yourself feel the ugh, but to embrace the moments in the now by enjoying your processes of preparation and realize that with all you do this time of year, you are probably serving more than you can count. 6 The Tree Lighting The optimist: Lions Andrew G., David S., and Wayne W. check the local forecast, hoping the rain would pass. But it didn t and the Tree Lighting was canceled. Erecting the True Value Tents The Fiedler Pride ~ always there when needed. And with a smile to boot. Second attempt inside Rose Fire Co. hall. Thanks goes out to the Co-Chairs, Jackie & Mike Summers for showing the true meaning of Lionism ~ Don t give up Success!
