1 NKAU MTHUNGAMELI D.0.B: 02/04/1997 PROGRAMME: Bachelor of Science in Applied Biology and Biochemistry (SBB) NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (NUST) I am a 20 year old gentleman doing biochemistry at the above mentioned university, which is a four year degree programme with an industrial attachment on the third year. I am currently doing my first year semester and I will graduate around I was raised by my grandfather and mother. My mother and father never got married and l was brought to my grandparents when l was three years old. I did not know I had parents. l remember I meeting my mother when l was in form four (US Grade 11) and she was already married to another man and my father too got married to another woman. I had no one to lean on except my grandfather and grandmother who became my real parents. I have no siblings except my step brothers and step sisters from my stepfather and stepmother. Raising fees for my primary education was not that difficult since both grandparents were working for the government, however they

2 started to face difficulties when l was doing form three since both of them were now retired and they could not raise fees. This forced me to write one subject in June so as to try to minimize the expense for paying for November examinations and related fees. I went to Hlangabeza High School which is a boarding school located in Nkayi District and l did my form one up to form six there. I was a day scholar since my guardians could not afford to enrol me in boarding school and in which I was forced by my circumstances to attend the same school for six years and I finally finished in Fortunately I passed both my ordinary level getting ten subjects in total all with good symbols and also getting nine points in advanced level. All these experiences never made me lose hope. Up to now, I believe God has placed me in this world for a purpose. I believe He is the pillar I can lean on and my cornerstone and I am forever grateful. I applied for a loan to do a project on broilers hoping I could manage to raise fees to further my education as I saw it that it was difficult for my guardians to help me. I only raised enough for the deposit fee for university and I also applied for a place at NUST and I got admission in biochemistry. Since they always wanted me to go to University and after failing to raise the money for my fees, my grandmother approached Mr Vulindlela Bongani Sibanda and he offered to sponsor me and he has become my dedicated sponsor. This became a dream come true to me and I have learnt that God is never too deaf to listen to prayers. There is nothing that can give you much peace knowing that your fees are taken care of. This has opened doors for me and I am dedicated to work hard. Mr V.B. Sibanda is based in Harare, Zimbabwe. I have received encouragement from him to study hard and this has gave me zeal to work hard. May God bless Mr. Sibanda. And also learnt a lesson in life about giving and this has given me much confidence about giving. l don t how to thank all the sponsors for giving us this very lifetime opportunity and this always brings me happiness and a smile on my face. As I continue to gain knowledge about giving and also gaining much confidence, I am now a member of Zimbabwe National Red Cross Society under the NUST umbrella and being the only part one student who is a member.

5 I am a Christian also, and my favourite verse which I live by always that greatly gives me hope and not to give up in life and trust the Lord always is Psalms 23vs 6 which says; All goodness and mercy shall follow me and l will dwell in the house of the lord forever. However there other verses I love too as they always allow me to grow spiritually and to be fully determined to accomplish my dreams and also get guidance. Having this scholarship has taught me a lot and I

6 am determined to work hard and make my dreams true. This has helped me a lot that nothing lasts forever. One day l will be an inspiration to someone that all things are possible if you believe surely that you will.
