I must say I thought of this verse recently when I heard the Vice-President of the United States on the national TV program Larry King Live. When asked about the reason for the school violence problem in America, Al Gore stated: You can hardly take your eyes away from it. I think that violence has that capacity because of our evolutionary heritage, because of the laws of nature tooth and fang. And we have with our power of conscience, with our beliefs in God, if we have those, as most of us Americans do, we have the ability to overcome those impulses with higher ones. We have the ability to overcome evil with good... But I think that heritage is always present with us. It was for most of humankind s existence part of our way of surviving. And so I think it has a primitive appeal. Mr. Gore made a connection between evolution and school violence. Now, we make a connection too but a very different one. Whereas the Vice President stated that school violence and evolution have a connection because we have an evolutionary heritage, we inform people that it s really because people like Al Gore and others allow (even insist) students in schools to be falsely taught they have an evolutionary heritage (a heritage of death, violence, disease, and bloodshed that is a part of the process that enabled humans to evolve from a primitive state). But we should not be surprised at Mr. Gore s comments. After all, he is an ardent evolutionist. His environmentally extreme evolutionary book Earth in the Balance, a best seller in 1992, was re-released April 22nd the 30th anniversary of Earth Day. It is expected to shoot to the top of the best-seller list again.

2 Page 2 continued from page 1 In this book, Mr. Gore makes such outlandish comments as: Human evolution, of course, is responsible for our very long period of childhood, during much of which we are almost completely dependent on our parents. As Ashley Montagu first pointed out decades ago, evolution encouraged the development of larger and larger human brains, but our origins in the primate family placed a limit on the ability of the birth canal to accommodate babies with ever-larger heads. Nature s solution was to encourage an extremely long period of dependence on the nurturing parent during infancy and childhood, allowing both mind and body to continue developing in an almost gestational way long after birth. Also, Mr. Gore wrote: Human beings are made up mostly of water, in roughly the same percentage as water is to the surface of the earth. Our tissues and membranes, our brains and hearts, our sweat and tears all An unbalanced view! reflect the same recipe for life, in which efficient use is made of those ingredients available on the surface of the earth... But above all we are oxygen (61 percent) and hydrogen (10 percent), fused together in the unique molecular combination known as water, which makes up 71 percent of the human body. So when environmentalists assert that we are, after all, part of the earth, it is no mere rhetorical flourish. Our blood even contains roughly the same percentage of salt as the ocean, where the first life forms evolved. They eventually brought onto the land a self-contained store of the sea water to which we are still connected chemically and biologically. Little wonder, then, that water carries such great spiritual significance in most religions, from the water of Christian baptism to Hinduism s sacred water of life. By the way, our blood does not contain the same percentage of salt as the ocean. In fact, once one considers the facts, this statement is not only wrong, it is quite ridiculous! 3 Page 3 by Dr. Don Batten on our Web site: asp But, what we really need to come to grips with is that it s not just Al Gore, but many politicians (from all parties), judges, educators, and others in positions of leadership in this country believe in much the same way as Al Gore concerning origins (in spite of the fact that many attend church and call themselves Christians). Is it any wonder, then, that lawmakers legalize abortion and push for the acceptance of homosexual behavior? Why shouldn t they, if most of our Church leaders say that evolution versus Genesis is a side issue, or compromise in ways that destroy the foundation of the Gospel message? As God s Word states: For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he (Proverbs 23:7). The more the leaders in this nation believe in an evolutionary heritage, the more their decision-making will reflect this evil philosophy. If man is just an evolved animal, and if death, violence, disease and bloodshed have been around long before human sin, and Genesis is taught as not being true history, then this will necessarily reflect how people view such matters as marriage and the nature of the unborn. Pray that the leaders of this nation turn their eyes toward the God of creation and accept His authoritative Word as truth, beginning with Genesis. What a difference it would make if this were taught to the coming generations. And what a difference one would see in the types of legislation and judicial rulings. It would reform the nation! 4 Page 4 Broadcast Blasts Creationists! The initials BBC took on a new meaning in Great Britain in March when Ken Ham debated three evolutionists on the British Broadcasting Corporation s national program Newsnight. The renowned civility of the British quickly went out the window as Ken was blasted as stupid, a teller of lies, and, in a less-heated moment, just dogmatic. In fact, a non-christian who saw the program told Ken the next day that he once had great respect for two of the evolutionists he knew, but that their poor showing and arrogance prompted him to reevaluate his opinion. He was upset that the geneticist at the University College of London said that there are a lot of stupid people in America who do not believe in evolution, and particularly took a dig at citizens in Kansas who were involved in a grassroots movement last year to de-emphasize evolution teaching in public schools. The same evolutionist, when asked by Ken Ham for specific evidence for molecules-to-man evolution, replied with salmon speciation in America. Ken quickly pointed out that the salmon ten years later are still salmon, and con- I saw Ken on BBC last night. It was wonderful to hear someone who firmly believed in God s inerrant Word...with clarity and dignity. Congratulations on a brilliant appearance on Newsnight, although the deck was certainly stacked against you. Ken did his usual impeccable job of refuting the evidence offered by the so-called scientists. Another evolutionary scientist said that what had happened in Kansas last August was dangerous for the future of science in America. So much for British understatement! This professor echoed the comment made by an evolutionary scientist from Kansas who, in the BBC program s opening segment, incredibly declared that high-tech businesses may not come to Kansas because of the state school board s insidious decision about evolution teaching! AiG s office in England (located in Leicester) received numerous complimentary phone calls and s after the debate. This TV debate was the highest-profile event the AiG ministry has yet had in Britain.

5 Architects interviewed for Creation Museum! Last month, AiG staff met with seven architectural firms that have expressed interest in designing the 95,000-sq.-ft. Creation Museum and AiG headquarters near Cincinnati. AiG presented the firms with its vision for the Bible-upholding museum. As a part of its presentation package, AiG composed a mission statement for the museum, one that mirrors AiG s general mission statement. It reads: Exalt Jesus Christ as Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer through a safe, wholesome, family-friendly center for learning and discovery that clearly presents major Biblical themes from Genesis to Revelation. This center will equip Christians to better evangelize the lost with a sense of priority, through a combination of exhibits, research, and educational presentations that uphold the inerrancy of the Bible. This center will also challenge visitors to receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and to accept the authority of the Bible by providing culturally relevant Biblical and scientific answers from a Biblical worldview. Main theme: The Bible is true from Genesis to Revelation Please pray with us that God will lead AiG to the right architects, general contractor, engineers, and other professionals as we prepare a site plan for the 47-acre property. Well-schooled in creation! AiG has recently revised its procedures for placing Christian colleges and seminaries on its list of creationist schools. AiG will list only those creationist institutions of higher learning that have signed a declaration of agreement stating that they believe and teach in agreement with AiG s statement of faith. This growing list is posted on our Web site (see below for the specific Web address*) and will be updated as new schools come on. 6 Page 6 Northwest heats up with evolution controversies! Although the Pacific Northwest of America is often portrayed as a region of open-mindedness and toleration, two instructors who refused to teach evolution as fact are in trouble because of the intolerance of evolutionary zealots. In Bend, Oregon, community college instructor Dr. Kevin Haley has been teaching his students the problems with evolution. Even though he does not teach creation, some colleagues and humanist activists in this central Oregon resort area succeeded in convincing the school s dean not to rehire him for next year. The student who brought her complaint to school authorities admitted that Mr. Haley did not teach creation, but because he implies creationism, she argues that he should stop his critique of evolution! To the north, in Washington state, Roger DeHart is being hounded by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) because he not only exposes the scientific difficulties of macro-evolution to his high school biology students, but also offers an alternative view of origins: intelligent design. Mr. DeHart does not even refer to the Bible or any particular religious belief system in his instruction. He simply presents a second model of origins: that the wonderfully designed living systems in the world suggest a designer. In addition to the obvious fact that the two instructors are not establishing any religion which the U.S. Constitution forbids they have both academic freedom and court rulings on their side. Yet the so-called civil liberties group, the ACLU, argues (especially in Mr. DeHart s case) that the teachers critiques of evolution fly in the face of a 1987 U.S. Supreme Court decision about presenting Biblical creation in public schools. The application of that court ruling to these teachers, however, is preposterous for three simple reasons: 1. What the Court actually ruled in 1987 was that no state could force public school instructors to teach Biblical creation this is totally irrelevant to the two situations in the Northwest, where no one is forcing instructors to teach creation. 2. Furthermore, the court stated in 1987 that teachers possess the freedom to present alternative views of origins, provided no particular religion is being advanced. 3. Neither instructor is teaching Biblical creationism anyway! Students should be exposed to the arguments both for and against macro-evolution. What could be more fair, especially in a region of the country which prides itself in free and open inquiry! Dear AiG: We eagerly look forward to the day the museum is open. While we have held many well-received seminars in Maine and Wyoming, for example, we do not receive many invitations to speak in these parts of America. We want to change that! One of AiG s associates, Dr. Al Galbraith, will be in New England on September 1-20 to conduct AiG video seminars in interested churches (or other locations). Also, because he lives in Wyoming, he is available to bring a Bibleupholding program to nearby Rocky Mountain states most of the year. Dr. Galbraith, who has a Ph.D. in Watershed Science, retired in 1997 after a distinguished career in the U.S. Forest Service, and is now available to minister through the exciting AiG presentations on video. Videos will be projected on a large screen, so it s the next best thing to having Ken Ham there in person! Dr. Galbraith will also be on hand to answer people s questions and to emcee the programs. 9 Didyaknow? Did you know that the Templeton Prize-winner in religion is an agnostic who believes that if there was a Creator, He was something of a bumbler (reports the Gannett News Service)? Dr. Freeman Dyson, who works at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton University, is the recipient of this year s Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion. Dr. Dyson, a physicist by training, declares that since one cannot prove God exists (proof can be found only in mathematical equations, Dyson insists), he must remain an agnostic (but not an atheist). In addition, Dr. Dyson says that if God does exist, then He must not be all-powerful because He is not able to stop famine, suffering, and disease. The Bible, however, explains why we have death and suffering in the world. The horrible things we see all around us are the result of the Fall of man and the subsequent Curse upon the world not God s powerlessness. (Go to our Q&A section at and see related articles on The Relevance of Creation ) Thankfully, in the new Heaven and new Earth to come, the Curse will be finally removed, and then there will be no death and suffering just as it was in the perfect Garden of Eden, before sin.
