1 June 25, 2017 F (part I led a quiet life during marriage and work at the UP Diliman, where I had graduated. Retirement at age 50 found me joining socio-civic organizations - Soroptimist of the Philippines, Mother Butler Guild, Concerned Women of the Philippines (CWP), and the Catholic Women s League. CWP became my passion in later years as I immersed myself in political and civic issues, as well as in work and charity for the poor. We Care Because We Pray Twelfth Week of Ordinary Time iesta antasia 1) Forbes Park, Makati Along came Fiesta 2017, and its team made me chair. I could not refuse this special service for our Patron St. Anthony. It has been a frenetic month of weekly meetings, but I was blessed to have a team (half of them started off as strangers) made in heaven! Marvelous teamwork, each one giving of herself/ himself unstintingly, unselfishly. Results amazingly accomplished with jet speed and superior quality. 2 parish bulletin FROM THE DESK OF THE PARISH PRIEST Fr. Reu Jose C. Galoy, OFM A Heartfelt Thanks Time and again, our parish-community has been blessed graciously in many ways. I personally have witnessed it when we celebrated the Feast of our beloved Saint Anthony of Padua how God guided the Executive Council of our Parish Pastoral Council in the discernment process on choosing the Chairperson of the 2017 Fiesta Committee, the organization and person-in-charge as well as members of the different working committees. Thank you for allowing yourselves to be God s instrument in making His loving and tender care reach out to people in various ways. To many, by means of addressing their health concerns, and to others through receiving the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Marriage. To some our Novena Masses have become a moment of intense reflection, prayer and making the message of the Gospel come alive. To the rest of our parishioners, our fiesta activities provided them another opportunity to express the generosity and support through their time, talents and treasure. Indeed, our fiesta program and activities was a pilgrimage of a Eucharistic Community-in-Mission; it was your self-offering and selfless sharing of the best from every member of our parish-community that made our fiesta an encounter of God s special blessing God s precious gift to us through the inspiration of St. Anthony of Padua. Give all of yourself and God will give you all of Himself St. Anthony of Padua Thank you very much to all of you, my co-pilgrims. Our fiesta was not only a success, but also much more - a faith-nurturing, community-family life enriching and mission-animating as well. 3 June 25, 2017 FROM THE DESK OF THE PPC PRESIDENT Edmund Lim, KHS As our Fiesta celebration comes to a close, I would like to thank the community for its overwhelming support. We came together as a faith family in celebration of the feast of our Patron Saint Anthony. I remember two months ago when we were in search of our Fiesta chairperson and we thought of Tita Bel Poe. When we invited her to be our Fiesta Chairperson, she expressed the need to pray and discern. I was elated when she accepted. I attribute her decision to the intervention of St. Anthony; our Parish Priest, Fr. Reu; and the support of her family. Special thanks to all our SSAP committee members lead by Suzette, to the members of the tireless and supportive Poe Family, to all our sharers in the Novena Masses, to Bernie, Belen, and to the different Fiesta committee heads. This year s Fiesta team worked as one cohesive unit, thus ensuring a joyous and successful Fiesta celebration. To our donors, benefactors, well-wishers, and supporters you have been instrumental in the success of your Fiesta s fundraising program. Your generosity has allowed our parish to fund our fiesta outreach and the repair of our sacristry. Thank you for your unwavering support to SSAP. May Saint Anthony continue to bless us all. 4 parish bulletin Reflections by Dennis Montecillo What s In A Name? Quickly now what are the first three things that come to your mind when you hear the word fiesta? Food. Drink. Fun. Close enough? You would be right, but incomplete. From Latin (festum), to Spanish (fiesta), to its common usage in the Philippines today, the word passed through an era of religious connotation. It is in this context that SSAP, through its parishioners, launched a week of activities (including, but not limited to, food, drink, and fun) to coincide with the Feast of San Antonio de Padua, the parish s Patron Saint. This year s fiesta experience defined as commencing with the first committee meeting to the parish dinner on Tuesday, June 13 may be described as bookends of joy. The proverbial air that we breathed throughout the week was filled with it. Bookend One: Committee Preparations The meetings were long, frequent, and hectic. But during the committee meetings, one could almost touch the feeling in the air that pervaded from raucous laughter to funny jokes, to nervous giggles from nervous anxiety, to moments of community prayer that commenced each weekly gathering one had a feeling that we were all there in the service of our Lord. Notwithstanding the truth that our chairperson observed ( half of us started out as strangers ) we were brought together by one Person Jesus Christ. That was all we needed. June 4 Presider: Fr. 5 June 25, 2017 Novena Masses & Sharing by Javier Luis Gomez and Dedette Gamboa The mission for the novena sharings leading up to feast of Saint Anthony was to lead each person in telling a story of how their Faith has grown and developed throughout the years. Each person s experience of the Gospel is different, and our stories can help each other come to a deeper Faith. As a community, we chose sharers that had an experience to share, whether it be about Sacred Scripture, outreach, or the Liturgy, said Jaime Gomez, who coordinated and helped to select the sharers. Dedette Gamboa, one of the sharers, said, Initially, I was hesitant to share because I had never spoken like this before a huge crowd. On top of that, I was scheduled for Pentecost Sunday, the first day of the Novena!!! I asked my prayer group to pray for me, and I also prayed in silence to the Holy Spirit to inspire me and give me the words. When I woke up on the Thursday before my time, the words just flowed so easily that I was able to submit almost immediately my draft to Javier and one of my prayer group mates for comment and editing. Their comments were so positive and encouraging that I felt even more at peace. When the big day came, I felt calm and peaceful because I knew the Holy Spirit was with me and He has never failed me! He said, All I need to do is give my fiat. Do this all for God s honor and glory. Said Fr. Reu Galoy, It is the laity who truly make the Gospel come alive. June 5 Presider: Fr. 11 June 25, 2017 Fiesta Outreach Programs by Judy So PPC President Edmund Lim observed, Every year, CWL successfully hosts the parish s fiesta outreach programs. This year is no different. CWL s dedication and continued hard work can be seen in the happy smiles of our beneficiaries from the medical mission, libreng almusal, mass Baptism, mass Confirmation and mass Wedding. The parish s generous spirit is magnified through these programs. Chairperson Judy So tells her story this way: The SSAP-CWL has continually improved and expanded its Medical-Dental services. Today, this includes Ophthalmology (Cataract Glaucoma screening), ENT (Ears, Nose, Throat), Women s Health (Breast Exam, PAPS smear screening), Dental (filling and extraction), Surgery (Cyst Removal, Breast Mass Excision Biopsy aside from circumcision), Cancer Prostate Screening, Fasting Blood Sugar Screening, Adult and Pediatric consultation, Free reading glasses, and ancillary procedures (Ultrasound, ECG and X-ray). My network of relationships with the Sigma Tau Delta Sorority (pioneer sorority in UST Medicine & Surgery), Tau Mu Sigma Phi/Tauan Alumni Organization, and the UST Medical Alumni Association provided fertile ground to help me to secure the assistance and support from fellow Thomasian doctors. Our own CWL mothers, CWL SSAP scholars and alumni as well as the SSAP staff worked hand in hand with us in making this happen, as they have done every year. This year, with 90 volunteers, we served close to 800 patients. Once again, it was a humbling experience for me to be able to serve my purpose as a child of God to serve our parish and the community through the CWL SSAP. God is so good to continue to give me opportunities to serve as a doctor to give glory to our Creator. As Mother Teresa said, A life not lived for others is not a life.
