1 CORE QUALITIES OF PRINCIPLED LEADERS STRONG CONVICTIONS ACCOUNTABILITY HUMILITY INTEGRITY RESPONSIBLENESS DISCIPLINE & SACRIFICE

2 STRONG CONVICTIONS Convictions refer to two aspects of leadership: 1. A leader s certainty they have a unique purpose in life. 2. Their wholehearted personal commitment to a vision worth sacrificing for. To have conviction is to sense that there is something we MUST do while we are on earth.

3 ACCOUNTABILITY We have a responsibility to be accountable on three levels: 1. To Ourselves a. A commitment to self-evaluation. Regularly examining our own conducts to see if we are living according to the moral principles that we value and have set as the standard. 2. To Other People a. A commitment to evaluation by others. To submit the evaluation of our attitudes and actions to another individual or group of individuals qualified to examine them in light of the principles we have committed to. b. A principled leader truly welcomes accountability. c. They embrace appraisal because they understand that their inherent worth was given by their Creator. We should only make ourselves accountable to someone of proven character who has demonstrated that they have our best interests at heart.

4 ACCOUNTABILITY 2. To Other People d. Unprincipled leaders are afraid of being held accountable, so they avoid evaluation whenever possible. I am accountable to myself mentality. They will also begin to use and misuse other people. e. Evaluation by others means a leader reports to those whom they are responsible for as well as for whom they are responsible. 3. To Our Creator a. A principle based leader recognizes that their ultimate accountability is to God. b. Even when alone everything said or done is observed. Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. - Galatains 6:7-8 A principled leader doesn t idolize themselves and gives credit where it is due.

5 HUMILITY Humble is a Latin word humus meaning earth. To be humble, means to be down to earth. A leader can manifest true humility only after they accept their significance as a person and as a leader. The quality of humility in a leader is manifested through servant leadership. Leaders who don t understand their inherent purpose and worth have difficulty being humble because they often need reassurance through the praise of others.

6 INTEGRITY The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. Moral uprightness. The state of being whole and undivided. Incorruptibility If you are incorruptible, you will not be enticed by your own desires or the pressure of other people to violate your moral standards or to operate on the basis of self-interest. When you have integrity, you have transparency and trust.

7 RESPONSIBLENESS He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. Luke 16:10 A principled leader loves responsibility. They are not lazy. No task or person is beneath them for service. What do you do when somebody gives you a task to do? Do you feel sorry for yourself, or complain, or do you execute immediately?

8 DISCIPLINE & SACRIFICE Leaders of purpose learn to govern themselves with self-control. All true leaders adhere to self-imposed limitations on their lives for the purpose of achieving a higher purpose. As we progress in Character Development we will learn to govern and discipline each area of our lives in order to protect it from ethical lapses and prepare it for maximum productivity. Sacrifice based on conviction leads to inspiration. Inspiration is what leads other people to join in fulfilling our vision.
