Through making references to the manifestations of in various cultural, historical and social contexts, this course also aims to understand s relationship with other religions as well as the unity and plurality of as a global religion. References to relevant cases in in China, particularly Hong Kong, will be made for illustration purpose. Expected Learning Outcomes Knowledge: To achieve proper understanding of as a global phenomenon and some of the representative manifestations of in various local contexts. To obtain a comprehensive knowledge of the major aspects of Christian faith, especially its views of the meaning of human life. To have a basic understanding of the methodology involved in the multidisciplinary study of. Skills: To be able to use the analytical framework and hermeneutical tools for the academic studies of the religious phenomena related to. To be capable of relating what have been leant from this course to some other academic disciplines. To have the ability to reflect critically on one s own cultural and / or religious tradition. Attitudes: To treasure the value of human life and be sensitive to the related ethical responsibilities. To appreciate the diversity within particular cultural and / religious tradition. 4 Assessment scheme Task nature Tutorial presentation (10%) and participation (10%). Due date Varies Presentation by 2 persons in a group on one of the further readings. Two reading reports on any two other further readings (10% each X 2) other than the one presented at tutorial group. Each report includes a summary (roughly 1000 words) and crucial comment(s) (roughly 500 words). Term Paper: Word limit is 5000 words (60%) The topic should be different from the individual student s reading reports and tutorial presentation. The first report 21 February The second report 21 March May 2013 (5:00 p.m.) Marking scheme A, A- a more comprehensive understanding of relevant idea and knowledge with a clear presentation; a clear thesis and a certain extent of originality; dialogue with different scholarly works. B+, B, B- a good understanding of relevant idea and knowledge with a clear presentation and reference to scholarly works; a relatively less-defined and less argued thesis. C+, C, C- a relatively weak of understanding of relevant idea and knowledge; weak presentation; unclear thesis, and even contradiction; reference is limited.
