1 CHRI H4001: Christology, Soteriology and Eschatology Short Title: Full Title: Christology, Soteriology and Eschatology APPROVED Christology, Soteriology and Eschatology Module Code: CHRI H4001 Credits: 15 Field of Study: Religion Module Delivered in 2 programme(s) Reviewed By: MARY mckiernan Module Author: MARY mckiernan Module Description: The aims of this module are: To enable the students to conduct an objective appraisal of the arguments used in debate associated with christological and trinitarian controversies; To develop the students' competence in analysing the theological arguments found in emerging theories of soteriology and eschatology, and their ability to explain their relevance to contemporary Christian living; To motivate the students to engage meaningfully with the major debates in christology, soteriology and eschatology; To devise appropriate links between the three main areas contained in the module title. To help the students to formulate a conceptual framework against which to address topics and reach conclusions regarding key issues in christology, soteriology and eschatology Learning Outcomes On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to: LO1 LO2 LO3 LO4 LO5 Discuss early Christian doctrines and assess how these doctrines relate to ancient theories of salvation. Analyse the connection between doctrines concerning Jesus Christ and the Trinity and other theological considerations, including major historical developments. Evaluate the principal theologies of redemption which have emerged in the different epochs of the Church's history. Comprehend how the Virgin Mary exemplifies the fullest possible human response to God, and explain how the contemporary Catholic approach to mariology is linked with eschatology. Explain the central themes of christology, soteriology and eschatology, as well as their links and relationships to other areas of theology.
