Either last May or the May before I picked up a book which had been left there by a Christian member of St. Peter s Church, Chertsey, Surrey, England - What s So Amazing About Grace? by Philip Yancey. It remained unread until March of this year. I am 76 and have been a Christian since my teens. However, of late I have been re-evaluating my Christianity and really beginning to realise how utterly amazing is this Grace business. If you can identify the person who left the book please tell him/her how grateful I am to them for this further piece of the jigsaw. I will be back at the same hotel soon and will leave the book for someone else to benefit from it. Many blessings and thank you. God s ways are amazing be encouraged to try unusual ways to spread the Gospel message Bishop Andrew Visits Runnymede Our new Bishop spent a day with Runnymede Chapter on 13 April, hosted by St Mary s Church in Thorpe, when our clergy had a chance to present their churches and chaplaincies and in turn get to know their new leader. The day closed with a much larger gathering at St Peter s Church in Chertsey where the Bishop mingled freely with the many people, lay and ordained from all the churches in our deanery, who had come to get to know him. The evening started informally with refreshments and chat in the church hall, followed by an open interview in church when Bishop Andrew answered questions about himself and his vision for the diocese, and drew to a close with a moving communion service. Note +Andrew will also be preaching at a civic service on the occasion of the 800 th Anniversary of the Sealing of the Magna Carta at St John s Egham on 14 June for further details see calendar.

3 Christ Church, Ottershaw Easter Holiday Club Christ Church held its first Holiday Club in many years during the first week of the Easter Holidays, supported by many volunteers and Engage, Woking. The club ran for three mornings using the Scripture Union Landlubbers programme with slightly adapted materials to include most of the teaching in three days instead of five! Landlubbers uses Philippians 1-4 as its base and a memory verse (3:8) is repeated throughout the sessions to help the children remember...nothing is as wonderful as knowing Christ Jesus, my Lord. I have given up everything and count it all as rubbish. All I want is Christ... Christ Church invited primary age children (5-11) from local schools; up to 31 children attended on each morning, mostly from the local school, some attending Messy Church, but mostly not normally seen on a Sunday. They enjoyed interactive drama, warm up songs, clues to find and follow, outdoor games, the memory verse, craft time, refreshments, the Landlubbers theme song and most importantly time to pray together. Parents were invited to come slightly earlier on the last morning to see what their children had been up to. This was a really special time including prayer and ending with a rousing rendition of the theme song. At the end of the final session one child exclaimed: Can we do it again in the summer? God was present during that time and it was worth every minute of planning, preparation and presentation, to see the joy shining through those children and the adults who were there.

4 Easter in the Deanery This year we have pictures of Maundy Thursday at Thorpe with the church prepared for the footwashing, as well as their splendid Easter Flower Cross; the Veneration of the Cross at Hythe; the beautiful detailed Easter Garden at Lyne; and the Walk of Witness at Chertsey. *********EVENT SCHEDULE EVENT SCHEDULE EVENT SCHEDULE********* St George s Parade and Service St Peter s Church, Chertsey Sunday, 26 April, 3pm The Uniformed Organisations will have their annual parade through Chertsey Town Centre followed by a service at St Peter s Church all welcome.
