Please thank the city council for considering this matter. This is a very important group of buildings to the people in our neighborhood! 2 City Clerk: Los Angeles, CA Re: PLUM hearing -Bungalow Courtyard at 1450 Echo Park Ave LA Heritage Commission monument status recommendation (Case No. CHC-20I HCM ) Dear City Clerk & City Council Members, I ve been an Echo Park resident who has lived on the same block as the Wurfl Couryard Bungalows since February 2002, and Fm writing in support of the petition to designate these beautiful -near century old residences- a historic Los Angeles Monument. In many respects, the Wurfl Courtyard Bungalows embody the neighborhood character that drew me to Echo Park, hi fact, Fm fortunate enough to live in a Spanish-Revival style building, constructed around the same time Louis Wurfl was building the courtyard at 1450 Echo Park Place. Like many people, 1 believe the historical resonance of classic architecture enhances my Los Angeles housing experience, which is why it s so important to me to save such a significant element of the block I live on. These courtyard building resonate with Los Angeles history, from when Echo Park w'as know as Edendalc, and was the home to early Hollywood studios, post-world War One artists, painters, poets and working class Angelinos. In my review of the heritage commission s monument status judgment criteria, I feel it s clear that the Wurfl Courtyard Complex meets the standard for historic protection preservation, ft is my sincere hope that this group of residences gains that status, as I feel it is an irreplaceable link to a vital era of Los Angeles architectural history. A time of building craftsmanship and community planning that is as important in 2017, as it was in the 1920s. Thank you very much for your time & consideration. Sincerely, Chris Worthington 1440 Echo Park Avenue.

I hope you are able to help Lena Kouyoumdjian in her valiant crusade to keep this beautiful building preserved and thriving. As a resident of Echo Park myself, I would be truly thrilled to see the building gain monument status - it would be a victory for the neighborhood, as weii as a triumph for the architecture community. As a resident of the neighborhood, I wanted to emaii you to voice my support for the preservation of this property, and ones like it. These bungalows are a great example of bungalow court housing, and as a resident of Echo Park, it's important to me to see the character of the neighborhood upheld and not compromise the cost of neighborhood character/history. It's at a prominent location on Echo Park and Sunset and therefore it makes it a cornerstone for protecting the neighborhood character. Thanks so much for your time. 6 5/10/2017 Fwd: Letter of Support for Wurfl Court PLUM Hearing - Fwd: Letter of Support for Wurfl Court PLUM Hearing May 9, :53 AM From: Alec Patino <alecpatino@gmail.com> Date: Tue, May 9, 2017 at 9:54 AM Subject: Letter of Support for Wurfl Court PLUM Hearing To: sharon.dickinson@iacity.org I've lived in the area for over ten years and have had friends who lived in Wurlf Court for some of those. They are a perfect example of Echo Park's character and history, having been there since the beginning. It has all the characteristics of the classic bungalow court that made old Edendale what it was back when the film industry was taking off in Los Angeles. Sadly, the bungalow court has become an endangered species lately, and they need to be protected. In a way, they are a symbol of the American Dream, providing a private home with a smal! yard for families who would not otherwise be able to afford living in one. Removing this beautiful property on the Echo Park character to replace with 3 story units would be detrimental to the neighborhood. Thank You Alec Patino 2430 Ocean View Ave acity.org/forum/print/msg/cl erk.plumcommittee/ueeyvppotn0/nrdosl5pawaj?ctz= _84_88_104280w_84_ /1
