Color is important on a shield. So is the placement of the various symbols and other markings you choose to include. A good idea is to draw a rough draft of your shield before you make your final copy. Check off each number as you complete it on your rough draft: 1. Decide what colors you will use. The colors should tell about what kind of person you are. 2. Decide what design/ordinary you will use. The design of your shield should also tell about what kind of person you are. 3. Choose a symbol(s) which represents your characteristics. (at least 1) 4. Choose a symbol(s) which you consider part of your values/beliefs. (at least 1) *for 3. & 4., choose wisely to avoid clutter. 5. Choose the mark of cadency that tells the order in which you were born in your family. 6. Have a motto, which can be a single word or a phrase below your shield. 7. Finally, write an explanation in paragraph format for the reasons you chose the colors and symbols, what they represent, and how they connect to you; also, state your motto and explain its connection to your character, values, and beliefs.
