6 Corporate Confession of Faith Rev. Francis Minister: ALL: When God effectually calls us by his grace, how does He do it? When God effectually calls us, He enlightens our minds spiritually with a saving understanding of the things of God. He takes away our heart of stone and gives us a heart of flesh. He renews our wills and by his almighty power leads us to what is good. And so he effectually draws us to Jesus Christ. But we come to Jesus voluntarily, having been made willing by God s grace. Adapted from Westminster Confession of Faith 10.1 Corporate Confession of Sin GOD GRACIOUSLY RENEWS OUR HEARTS Heavenly Father, we confess that we have had hearts of stone towards you and one another. How desperately we need renewing. Forgive us. Thank you that by your grace you have given us new hearts of flesh. You have been faithful to your promise made through Ezekiel that I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. Help us by your Spirit to live in light of our new hearts. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 5 Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of selfcontrol. 6 Now as a concession, not a command, I say this. 7 I wish that all were as I myself am. But each has his own gift from God, one of one kind and one of another. 8 To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single, as I am. 9 But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry.
