1 First Presbyterian Church of Braidwood phone: Website:firstpresbraidwood.com JUNE 2010 NEWSLETTER FROM THE PASTOR Hello Summer! We ve waited so long for its arrival. The flowers are blooming. God s perfect creation is still working as it s supposed to. What an opportunity to share with others how God truly is in control. School is out. Our kids are looking for something to do (or our grandkids, or our neighbor kids). It s vital that we continue to feed our kids with the God s truth and God s love. All the time we invest in our children is an investment in the future. I read a comment somewhere that said - What the children become, that is what the community will become. Jesus expressed the importance of our young people in Luke 18. He said: Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. Have you considered how you can impact the life of a young person? I heard of a couple that helped with their grandkids, picking them up after school, feeding them snacks, and driving them to their various activities until their parents come home from work. These kids will forever remember the good influence provided them. Our upcoming VBS program is a great opportunity for us to reach out and invite many un-churched kids to learn about God. In so doing we are helping some young person a chance to hear and learn something that they may be prevented from knowing otherwise. I am so looking forward to a great week of fun and learning. Every year prior our VBS program has been great and I pray that this year will be even better. Even if you don t have children in your home, you can still invest in the life of a child you know. There is still so much potential as we all know people in our lives who do not attend church. The task to which God calls us is to reach out to them and invite them to come end enjoy the benefits of knowing our loving God. Why not invest in the future of a child and the future of the church. 3 Happy June Anniversaries to: Don and Kathy Gerz on June 9 th Hank and Betty Tameling on June 26 th Aaron and Jessi Simms on June 28th Local mission opportunity fundraiser: Local Reed Custer girls, Cassie and Desirae Randolph, were injured in a serious car accident January Both gilrs are making progress in their recovery, but medical expenses are mounting. A benefit will be held to raise much needed funds to help the family with medical bills and other expenses related to the accident. The benefit will be held on June 12, 2010 at T.J. s (the old Knights of Columbus) and will include a raffle, auction, and bake sale. Any help is appreciated. Start cleaning out those attics, basements, garages and closets. If you wish to donate items for the garage sale you can drop them off by Thursday June 10 th when Pastor Dale is in the office. Be sure to call 3

first and make sure he is in. We are also looking for donations of pop or water. Coke, Diet Coke, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Sprite and water are the kinds we are asking for.

Donations for the bake sale can be dropped off Friday morning and again on Saturday. Someone from the witness commission will be calling to remind church members about the baked goods. We will need help during the sales in a variety of ways. There is a sign up sheet in the narthex for volunteers who want to give a hand. If you have any friends, neighbors, relatives or anyone else who would like to help, we would be glad to have them join us. -Summerfest-JULY 15 TH -18 TH We will be looking for volunteers as usual to help during Summerfest more info to follow. Accepting children who have completed Preschool, Kindergarten, 1 s t, 2 nd, 3 rd, or 4th grades. The free VBS classes begin at the Presbyterian Church and end at Immaculate Conception Church Hall. Participants are to provide a plain white cotton T-Shirt, with sleeves, with the child's name written in the neck area. On Friday, June 2Sh all the children will present a program at Immaculate Conception Church at 6:00PM. A potluck dinner in the church hall will follow the program. Come join the Fun and Games!!! 5
