1 THE WLBC BULLETIN West Lynchburg Baptist Church June 4, 2017 Volume 7, Issue 23 The church with heart in the heart of the city. J u s t Around The Corner... Help Wanted The English actor, Roland Young ( ), once said, "I'm a self-made man, but I think if I had it to do over again, I'd call in someone else." The apostle Paul knew just the person to call. Thinking over the years of his own failures and sins, he wrote: "What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?" He answered his own question by saying, "Thanks be to God - through Jesus Christ our Lord!" (see Romans 7:24-25, NIV). Recipe for Fatherhood A man who wishes to be a great Christian father should consider the following: A. Let your children see that you treat your own parents with love and respect. Honor them. B. Let your children see that you love your heavenly Father. C. Show in various ways that you love their mother. A loving home is a secure, stable, supportive home where each person is treated with tender loving care. D. Listen to your children. Put down the paper, turn off the television, leave the computer and frequently ask what is going on in their lives. E. Plan and execute trips and recreational activities together. F. Take part in school, scouting, musical and drama activities with them. Praise sincerely whatever contribution the child has made to the event. G. Make your home cheerful. Tell funny stories and laugh. Laughter at the table creates a happy environment. H. When your children ask for it, give your best advice, but don't complain when they don't follow it. The school of hard knocks is still relevant. I. Take them to worship regularly. The church helps provide guidance, stability and unity for families. And God can seal together the family that honors Him. This class is for individuals who can already read music but have never rung handbells before. Those with minimal ringing experience are also welcome. So if you love hearing bells and have always wanted to give it a try I encourage you to come and do just that. The music reading skills you developed while playing an instrument in school, taking private piano lessons or singing in a choir can pay further dividends by learning to ring handbells. Give it a try for at least three weeks and chances are you will love it. Contact church office with questions. 4
5 Serving, Laughing, Playing & Praying Because WLBC Members Live Life With Hope Deacon of the Week: Ken Shumaker BIBLE QUIZ The Trinitarian formula occurs only once in the Bible. In which New Testament book do we read in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and who said these words? A. Romans; Paul B. 1 Peter; Simon Peter C. The Acts of the Apostles; Luke D. Matthew; Jesus Answer: See Matthew 28:19. Wise Words The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, walk out the door and deny him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable. Brennan Manning, The Ragamuffin Gospel Pray for the people of South Asia. 5
