Please do join us after the 10am service for coffee, which today is served in the Parish Centre. You might like to know that our children s area is at the front with toys and books for restless little people. Do feel free to sit there with your children. we have large print orders of service and hymn books. If you would like one please ask someone wearing a name badge. we have a loop system for those using hearing aids. the toilets are through the double doors at the front of church. if you would like to receive an intincted wafer at communion please let one of the ministry team know before the service and come to the south side of the altar. we have many activities going on during the week. For a full list please ask a person with a name badge - or take a Parish Directory from the leaflet trolley. we send out a weekly update. If you would like one please the Parish Office on admin@stlukeschurchmaidenhead.org.uk Quiet Space: The Chapel is available for anyone who wishes to have quiet space to pray before or after services. Please feel free to use it and enter via the choir stalls door. Pastoral Care: If you have or know of any particular pastoral need (visiting, home communion, etc) please speak to our Pastoral Coordinator, Sue Hinchliffe in the first instance ( ).

2 The Bible readings for Trinity Sunday are: A Reading from the Book of Isaiah In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lofty; and the hem of his robe filled the temple. Seraphs were in attendance above him; each had six wings: with two they covered their faces, and with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. And one called to another and said: Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory. The pivots on the thresholds shook at the voices of those who called, and the house filled with smoke. And I said: Woe is me! I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts! Then one of the seraphs flew to me, holding a live coal that had been taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. The seraph touched my mouth with it and said: Now that this has touched your lips, your guilt has departed and your sin is blotted out. Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? And I said, Here am I; send me! Isaiah A Reading from the Gospel of John There was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews. He came to Jesus by night and said to him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do apart from the presence of God. Jesus answered him, Very truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above. Nicodemus said to him, How can anyone be born after having grown old? Can one enter a second time into the mother s womb and be born? Jesus answered, Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be astonished that I said to you, You must be born from above. The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit. 2

3 Nicodemus said to him, How can these things be? Jesus answered him, Are you a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand these things? Very truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know and testify to what we have seen; yet you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. John The Collect Almighty and everlasting God, you have given us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity and in the power of the divine majesty to worship the Unity: keep us steadfast in this faith, that we may evermore be defended from all adversities; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Post Communion Prayer Almighty and eternal God, you have revealed yourself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and live and reign in the perfect unity of love: hold us firm in this faith, that we may know you in all your ways and evermore rejoice in your eternal glory, who are three Persons yet one God, now and for ever. Monthly Prayer Meeting: Wednesday 3rd June from 3.00pm in church. This month's leader is Janet Trinkwon, anyone who would like to share in quiet time and peace in the presence of our Lord is more than welcome to come along. Quiet Day: we will be holding a Quiet day at Burnham Abbey on Weds 22nd July, joining the sisters for Holy Communion at 9.30 am (there will be NO service here that day) and ending 3.30 pm. Please sign up if you wish to come. The cost will be 5 per person, bringing your own lunch. Seeking Solace: meets TODAY 31st May from 3pm. Anyone seeking company following a bereavement are more than welcome to come along for tea and cake and a chat. St. Paul s Forum: A variety of public events at St. Paul s cathedral, London. Details on forum@stpaulscathedral.org.uk or leaflet at back of church. I intend to hear Barbara Brown Taylor speak on learning to walk in the dark on Thurs 9th July (6.30 pm). If you would like to join me let me know admission free but you have to register. Sally Pools of Stillness: The next session is 23rd June. An opportunity for quiet personal space, starting with a brief reflection and ending with compline. Godly Play: Yvonne Morris, the diocesan Children s adviser, is leading two sessions for our children s leaders on Godly Play (they are different and run together) on Tuesdays 21st and 28th July, here in the Parish Centre at 8pm. Anyone else who would like to come along would be very welcome. Just the office to say you are coming. BRF: Next meeting is at 5 Wentworth Crescent on Monday 1st June from 7.15pm. Anyone who takes the Bible Reading Fellowship Daylight books is more than welcome to come along and share time discussing the previous months reading. For further information please contact Sonya Vesture in church: Summer is here and temperatures will rise, so could I please remind every person who robes for worship to be mindful of our footwear under our robes. Ideally, anyone in robes should be wearing dark, closed-in shoes (no open-toed shoes or trainers). We look very smart in our robes but that is often spoiled when we look down! If we take our worship seriously, we offer our whole selves, and we need to 4

5 be fully appropriately dressed as we lead others. Thank you very much. Sally Ordination: Our new curate, Nicola Hulks, will be ordained deacon on Saturday 4th July at 2 pm in Christ Church Cathedral. Members of the congregation are warmly invited to be present for this special occasion. Please let Sally know if you intend to go along. I do not expect us to spend time with Nicola that day it is a day for her to celebrate with family and friends. Her first day with us will be the following Sunday, 5th July, when we will have a lunch at midday for Nicola and Ben and welcome them together then. Welcome Hamper: Nicola and Ben will be moving to Maidenhead shortly, and we would like to put together a lovely hamper to welcome them to their new home. Today is the last chance to put items you would like to donate in the box at the back of church. Holy Trinity Cookham, Ladies Group have invited ladies from St Luke's to the Deanery Festival on Thursday 4th June from 7.30pm at Holy Trinity Church. Please let me know if you wish to attend so I can contact Christine with numbers for catering purposes. Collection will be in aid of Alexander Devine Trust. Thanks, Sonya Altar Rails: Owing to various activities in church there will be no altar rails for the next five weeks. Feel free to stand or kneel to receive communion. Baptism of Francesca Lane: This will take place during the All Age service on Sunday 2nd August. Tony and Michelle would love as many people as possible from our church family to be there for this occasion. INFORMATION Advertiser and Sainsbury s School Vouchers: Please place the last of any vouchers you have in the container in the church by the office. Many thanks. Outside tap: please note that is essential that anyone using the outside water tap ensures that it is locked again after use. We have a new spate of it being used inappropriately and if it is locked this will stop. Thank you. Parking behind the community hall: and also please note that church users should only park behind the community hall when the church has use of the Hall (i.e. Sunday mornings and special bookings). It is not fair to those renting the hall if we use it at other times. Thank you. SOCIAL and FUNDRAISING St. Luke s Music Festival th to 28th June: Only 2 weeks to go before the start of the Music Festival! A wide publicity campaign led by Sue Curley has already swung into action, but we do need everyone to help by ensuring that all friends, relatives and other contacts are aware of the event and encouraged to buy tickets. It s easy to take brochures with us wherever we go, and perhaps to invite relatives to come and stay during the event. The whole fortnight has something for everyone, and it would be wonderful to see the last 6 months preparations rewarded by lots of 5

6 people at every concert. Have you bought your own tickets yet? Jean T-D has them at the ready! Help with Catering for Music Festival : Phyl Sopp and I are organising the catering between us but we shall need a lot of help from our friends. We have interval drinks for all evening concerts, one orchestra supper, two Friday lunches and two Sunday cream teas. There is a file at the back of church detailing what we shall need and hope that people will be able to help with serving and / or cooking. Sally Somerville St Luke's Relatively Young People: This is a group intending to meet every 6 weeks or so for informal fellowship in a Maidenhead pub. If you are at least 18 years of age and interested in this, please let us know via jamesandlouisa.ellins@googl .com or talk to James or Louisa Ellins after a service when we are here. The next planned pub trip will be Sunday 14th of June at 7.30pm at the Bear pub. Summer Local Walks: All are welcome on these walks which we hope to have nearly every week throughout the summer, although the day/time will vary. Please let us know in advance if you expect to come or we may cancel the walk. We meet at the following places: Mon. 1 June 2.15pm. Flower Pot, Aston (GR784843).[Down Aston Lane, a right turn off the A4130 Henley Rd. at Remenham Hill]. A 4m hilly walk with great views, a herd of white deer and passing Culham Court. Wed 10 June 7.15pm Near Waltham St Lawrence church (GR830769). A flat 3.2m walk via the the changed Chalkpit and Weycock rail bridges. Wed. 17 June 7.15pm at the Flower Pot (GR784843). [Down Aston Lane, a right turn off the A4130 Henley Rd. at Remenham Hill]. A 3.5m fairly flat walk over the weir and round via Greenlands and the edge of Ridge Wood. Please share cars if possible and if the weather is wet phone to check that the walk is still on. Roger & Jilly T WIDER COMMUNITY Maidenhead Choral Society Concert: Saturday 6th June at 7.30 pm here at St Luke s Church. Mozart s Vespers (K339) and Schubert s Mass in E flat. Tickets 12 (concessions 10). Tel Refreshments at school sports day: It would be a great act of service of we could serve refreshments at the schools sports days to free parents to watch their children participate and help staff. Coffee Morning in aid of Children s Hospice: Coffee morning to be held at 10, The Farthingales, Maidenhead (first left off Oldfield Road) on Tues 16th June from to 12.30, in aid of Alexander Devine Children s Cancer Trust. Coffee/Tea and homemade cakes will be served. All donations gratefully accepted for this very important local charity. More details from Pat Human ( ). University of the Third Age (U3A): This is an opportunity for third-agers to get together to learn and share experiences. Information available at the back of church or at 6
