1 School Year August 30, 2015 AUGUST NEWSLETTER The Pharr Oratory of St. Philip Neri School System Mision The mission of the Pharr Oratory of St. Philip Neri School System is to promote the formation of Christian character, Catholic lay leadership, Christian fellowship and community service by integrating the Gospel message with a liberal arts educational program in the spirit of joy of St. Philip Neri. Vision Every Oratory student believes the Gospel message and lives it by making a difference in the world, as each student journeys to his/her ultimate end, heaven. Web Page Catholic Classical Liberal Arts Education Catholic Classical liberal education aims to help learners understand not only what human beings can learn by natural human reason alone, but what they, by faith, can learn by opening their minds to Divine Revelation ; i.e., that human beings were created out of pure unselfish love in the image and likeness of God, their Creator; the likeness human beings share with God is freedom; especially, the freedom to choose God willingly as He, first, willingly chose human beings to be the very summit of His creation. Leo-Francis Daniels Saint Philip Neri Virtue of the Month Be prudent Conscience is an interesting word; it comes from two Latin words: con from the Latin word cum meaning with ; and the Latin word scientia meaning knowledge. And, so, putting the two words together, conscience literally means with knowledge. Being clear about what is real and good. Your parents or the significant others lovingly taking their place appealing to your power to know things (i.e., your intellect) teach you those things are objectively good and those things are objectively evil; they teach you, moreover, that to do good you must avoid evil. Knowing Power to be or not to be human? Your conscience is that part of your intellect (i.e., your material brain along with your spiritual power or faculty) that allows you to know and to determine whether a human action is morally good or morally evil that is, to know whether or not our behavior is appropriately human. Interestingly, the word moral, in ethical life, can be neatly equated to the word human : for example, if I do something that is immoral, what I am, in fact, saying is that my action is not appropriate for a human being. Before the test Get a good night s sleep each night before testing. Begin each day of testing with a nutritious breakfast. Your body needs rest and fuel so that your mind is clear and ready! PowerSchool home.html The Pharr Oratory of St. Philip Neri School System provides an online data base (SIS) Student Information System in which parents can access their account 24 hours a day. Parents are responsible for requesting their ID number and password from the administration in order to access the system. Get to school on time so that you are relaxed, not rushed, as you begin testing. Think positively and do your best. Remind yourself that you have worked hard and you are ready for testing. During the test Read all of the directions. Ask your teacher for help if you don t understand them. Read each question carefully and choose the most appropriate answer. Exclude the unsuitable options. Choose the best answer. Chose the correct place for each answer. To help you think, make use of your scratch paper. Sample Coming Projects!
