Senior Staff The Chief (Mark Curran) - Camp Director Forcey Memorial Church Allowing young men to grow in their faith is what my God has placed on my heart. The summer camping ministry at HWBC is where young men mature in Christ, develop their faith and learn to become Christian Leaders for tomorrow. This ministry has allowed Joanne and me a wonderful opportunity to minister to young men and young women, as they grow through their teenage years. God does things! I have the privilege of planting Biblical seeds and watching as the Holy Spirit grows in the hearts of all of our staff and campers! Ian Stewart - Program Director Columbian Presbyterian, Battalion 6831, Age 26, 5th year on staff. I am here because God has called me. I am so thankful for that calling because there is no place I d rather be. Leading this staff in an incredible privilege. 1 Timothy 1:5 is my goal for them, to encourage the attitude necessary to make a difference in every camper s life. As we daily listen to the Spirit and obey, we will watch God do amazing things. Ben Deibert - Assistant Program Director Annapolis EP, Battalion 4743, Age 19, 4th year on staff. I left last summer feeling called to return to staff and lead fellow brothers in Christ to a deeper relationship with our incredible Savior. I am continually amazed by the gospel and the truth that it proclaims. I am excited about the opportunity to mentor and teach both the junior staff members and campers. I pray that this summer would be an amazing time, and would spiritually grow and challenge both junior staff and campers. With God s help this summer will be an experience that stretches and grows each individual here at camp. Robert Jinks - S.A.L.T. Leader and Assistant Program Director Chantilly Bible Church, Battalion 555, Age 21, 7th year on staff. The Lord has lead me to be on staff for many years, and it is something I look forward to every summer. As a young camper, I saw the staff at Camp Hemlock serve God with a passion. With servant hearts they scrubbed toilets, lead the many rotations, and let me jump on their backs. God used their example to show me what it was to be a humble servant and follower of Jesus Christ. I want to give back to camp and help campers be impacted in the same way I was. My goal is to train boys to be come strong servant leaders of Christ. 1

Bryan McVae - S.A.L.T Leader and Assistant Program Director Annapolis EP, Battalion 4743, Age 19, 5th year on staff. Coming back to camp this summer was a decision that I had made at the end of last summer. The decision to lead S.A.L.T. and come back as an Assistant Program Director has been something that I have wanted to do since I went through the S.A.L.T. program in Since going to college this last academic year, I have felt my faith grow as I have been stretched and tested. God gave me the chance to co-lead a bible study and step into a leadership role on campus. Around January, I felt that God was calling me to challenge my personal walk. About that time I received an application for senior staff at school and I felt that God was calling me to serve at camp again this summer. Brent Niewoehner - S.A.L.T. Leader and Assistant Program Director Annapolis EP, Age 17, 3rd year on staff. I am here at camp to bring glory to God s name. This year I have the opportunity to not only share the gospel, but also train others to do the same. God has given me the responsibility of training guys in the S.A.L.T. program to serve here on staff, to lead in their battalion, and to spread the gospel to a world lost in darkness. As this world becomes darker and darker, we need to shine brighter and brighter. I am here to train young men to become better servant leaders than those of us preceding them. Junior Staff Joshua Amason - Columbia, Battalion 6831, Age 16, 1st year on staff. I came to camp this year as a staff member because as a camper I was truly inspired and impressed by the staff s capabilities and I wanted to duplicate those experiences for the next generation of campers. At the same time I also came to camp because I desire to grow in my faith. I only hope by God s grace I will be successful in my endeavors. Joshua Barber - Fredericksburg United Methodist, Age 15, 1st year on staff. This is my first year on staff and I ve decided to come here for many reasons. First, I have longed to be a staff member since my first year as a camper. Secondly, I volunteer to work with elementary school children, and Hemlock is a longer, more in-depth opportunity to serve. Third, I want to bring young children closer to God and help them strengthen their belief. I have enjoyed camp for as long as I can remember and I hope these campers will feel the same. 2

Jonathan Bensing - Chapelgate, Battalion 6468, Age 14, 1st year on staff. I am glad that I am able to be here on staff this year. I want to help mentor and disciple the campers and tell them the good news of Jesus Christ. Not only do I want to strengthen their faith, but mine as well. S.A.L.T. was a great experience, but I want staff to be an even better one. I want to make sure that the campers and staff have fun, but more importantly, we do it all for the glory of God. Sam Berlin - Forcey Memorial, Battalion 555, Age 14, 1st year on staff. As a camper I always was amazed by how the staff served so happily. I knew that one day I wanted to be on staff. This summer I decided to go on staff because it was a great way to show my gratitude to my Lord and Savior. I hope that God will work through me and my peers this summer. Jacob Clairmont - Columbia, Battalion 6831, Age 14, 1st year on staff. This being my first year on staff I pray that it would be a mind blowing experience for me mentally and spiritually. I also pray that I will be able to project my knowledge of the Bible in a way that would influence the campers I meet. Again I hope that while I am here that the Lord will work through me helping me to know what is right and to be faithful in all that I do. Seamus Doolan - Annapolis EP, Battalion 4743, Age 15, 1st year on staff. I came to camp this year as part of my desire to serve the Lord. The first time I came to camp for Go-Karts I have been interested in staff. The next year I went to S.A.L.T. and felt His hand guiding and sustaining me. Since then I have grown even closer to Him. S.A.L.T. was a major turning point in my life in both spiritual and physical maturity. Since my completion of S.A.L.T. I have had a desire to return to Hemlock to serve with my brothers in Christ. A second reason for serving on staff this year was to do whatever I can to serve the camp. So far staff has been the greatest thing in my life and I want to repay Hemlock Wilderness Brigade Camp in any way I can. 3

Ralph Erickson - Columbia, Battalion 6831, Age 15, 2nd year on staff. I am pumped to be serving on this second year of staff. Last year on staff was by far the most exciting five weeks of my life. I never feel closer to God then when I am serving at Camp Hemlock. I am also looking forward to the incredible Christian fellowship among the other staff members. My goal for this year is to always be attentive to the Lord s will and do whatever He wants me to do. Adam Flanick - Corporal Chapelgate, Battalion 6468, Age 16, 2nd year on staff. I m here on staff for several reasons. Last year on staff I found that I grew more spiritually in the few weeks than in any other time in my life. On staff I felt such a focus on God and so driven toward my personal goals. The other reason I m here is because I was made to love. I want to show God s love to others because of the love He has shown me. I want people to look at me and see Jesus. The last reason I m here is because I came to set an example for younger believers, and inspire them to have a passion for their faith. I was made to love. Tim Green - Chehalem Valley Pres. OR, Age 16, 3rd year on staff. Camp is like home to me. The staff are my brothers and the campers are my friends. I feel at peace at camp and I feel God s presence so clearly and deeply when I am here. I came to camp for the first time in 2004 and I became hooked, and I have attended camp each year since. Over the years I have spent here, I have learned and grown so much in my faith and now I m on staff because I want to give back to God and this wonderful camp. Dan Hayden - Chapelgate, Battalion 6468, Age 16, 3rd year on staff. It has been a privilege to serve here on staff at Hemlock. I love sharing my own experiences with the campers and showing new skills to them, in turn building long-term relationships. I remember vividly the time I spent at HWBC as a camper, and at the core of those memories were the relationships that were formed with the staff. Over the past year God has blessed me with a heart for worldwide missions, and I just returned from a life changing trip to Kenya, Africa. I have a strong passion for all outdoor activities. In Mathew 28:18, Jesus gives The Great Commission. What a privilege it is to not only be in such a sanctuary of God's creation at HWBC, but to also fulfill Christ's command at the same time; for me there is no greater honor. 4

Dan Heckman - Chapelgate, Battalion 6468, Age 18, 3rd year on staff. I am a born again Christian, and I believe that Christ died on the cross and paid the ultimate price for me, so that I may have eternal life with Him. I believe that God calls us to suffer so that we may have an increased appreciation for Him and His awesome power, and that He may teach us through our mistakes in life. I serve at camp so that I may help strengthen the spiritual hearts of all who come, and to spread His amazing love. By the end of each summer I realize that serving at camp is something God calls me to do rather than it just being a good thing to do. Karl Johnson - Liberty, Battalion 7655, Age 16, 2nd year on staff. The main reason that I am here again this year is to help advance God s Kingdom and to reach out to those who have not yet placed their faith in Christ. Since the age of nine camp has been a great place to grow spiritually as well as physically. I look forward to sharing my faith with all of the men and boys who will be coming to camp. I ve learned so much from past years and am ready to learn more this year. Camp Hemlock is probably the number one place for me to be this summer; the fellowship with everyone is a big highlight. I wouldn t suggest any camp over Hemlock Wilderness Brigade Camp. Wyatt Lueck - Corporal Annapolis EP, Battalion 4743, Age 17, 2nd year on staff. I am here to serve the campers, but also for the adventure of being away from the city for a few weeks. I want to be challenged spiritually and grow through difficulty. Andrew Lui - Forcey Memorial, Battalion 555, Age 15, 1st year on staff. My name is Andrew, and I have been coming to Camp Hemlock since I was a young child. I grew up in a Christian home, but attending S.A.L.T. really opened my eyes to what it meant to be a Christian. It s not just believing in Christ, but it is having a personal relationship with him. For the first time, I really appreciated all that He has done for me. A big reason that I'm here is to grow more in Christ, and to form an even closer relationship with Him. But mostly, I want to help spread his love and be a Godly example to the campers this year, and I am looking forward to doing his will. 5

Nicholas Mackie - Corporal Forcey Memorial, Battalion 555, Age 18, 3rd year on staff. I came to work on staff because nothing satisfies me more than obeying God s commands and living like Jesus. I want to share with everyone about the irresistible revolution of the gospel. I like Camp Hemlock because it is a place where God is at work. If there were no preaching of the gospel, it wouldn t be as fun. I want to make the gospel irresistible as I work at camp, and in every aspect of my life. What I see dimly in a mirror now, I want to see fully later. Ian Miller - Forcey Memorial, Battalion 555, Age 15, 1st year on staff. I am very excited for my first year on staff! As a camper I loved my time here and had great growth of Jesus Christ. On staff I hope to continue that experience and pass it on by helping campers to have as great an experience as I have had at camp. Josiah Mitchell - Corporal Annapolis EP, Battalion 4743, Age 16, 2nd year on staff. Howdy. I am an upcoming junior in high school. My last summer here was an extremely profitable time where I was surrounded by good Christian brothers and was able to grow in my relationship with God and see him at work. So, this summer I hope to further that growing process and continue to see God s plan of salvation unfold. Also, I came to camp in order to proclaim to the campers the good news that Christ dies to save sinners. God has given me the gift of Salvation and my desire is to share this hope in Christ with others. Matthew Murphy - Sergeant Annapolis EP, Battalion 4743, Age 17, 3rd year on staff. I m on staff because I love Camp Hemlock. I always look forward to the opportunity I have here to share the good news of the gospel. For me this is a time to forget the troubles of the world and focus on what really matters, my savior Christ Jesus. I see my summers here as training, to clearly live out what Heb 12:1-2 tells us to do. That by being surrounded by examples of Christian action and faith I can put away sin and with perseverance run the race, striving for Christ, my goal. And the best part is though I mess up and sin often, I can trust God for grace and forgiveness. 1 Jn 1:9 6

Nathan Niewoehner - Annapolis EP, Battalion 4743, Age 15, 1st year on staff. I decided I wanted to go to Staff two years ago when I went to Go-Karts. I made my decision then because while I was at camp I looked up to my leaders with a desire to be seen in the same way. My resolve to go to Staff was only increased with the time I spent at camp last year for S.A.L.T. I did not want to waste the opportunity to learn about leading for Christ from my older friends who had already gone to Staff. I answered without hesitation that I was planning on coming back for Staff this year when asked by several friends in battalion. I loved being at camp and I would have wasted a summer had I not come. Ryan Potter - Forcey Memorial, Battalion 555, Age 17, 4th year on staff. Camp Hemlock has been a great influence in my life ever since I started attending as a Stockader. I love the atmosphere of the mountains and the people I serve here at camp. As a fourth year staff member, I plan to use my talents and experiences to serve God and camp to the fullest of my abilities. Like it says in Luke 2:52, my goal while at camp is to build relationships with campers, my fellow staff members and most of all, a better relationship with our God. Alex Ray - Annapolis EP, Battalion 4743, Age 16, 1st year on staff. Matthew 28:19-20, Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always to the end of the age. I want to bring the Gospel to everyone I can. Man s purpose is to bring glory to God, but how can anyone do this if they have not heard the gospel? My goals at staff are to learn to be a better Godly leader at work, church, and at home as a brother and in the future as a father, as well as spread the Gospel. James Rushe - Chapelgate, Battalion 6468, Age 15, 1st year on staff. I am on staff this year because I wish to serve God by witnessing and being an example to the campers. When I was a camper, I would look at the staffers and want to be just like them. I hope to be an excellent example to the campers and I can t wait to serve God. 7

Jason Russell - Annapolis, Battalion 4743, Age 15, 1st year on staff. I am here on staff because I am sure God s plan for me is to be here. The day before I came to staff, I was walking down the stairs, fairly quickly and tripped. My feet stayed where they were, while the rest of my body kept going. I was sure I was going to break something when I hit the ground. However, next thing I knew I was standing at the bottom of the stairs, feet on the floor, not a scratch on me. At that moment I knew God had protected me. If I had hit the floor at the way I was going, I would have definitely broken a bone, and am excited to see what I will learn, how I will grow, and how I can serve others on my time at staff. Ian Sandum - Grace Covenant, Age 17, 3rd year on staff. I am here in order to delve deeper into the wonders of knowing Christ. I desire to see His work done, and to be the instrument in the hand of the Almighty God. I desire to spread God s goodness and grace through the camp, but also to be equipped to spread the Word to my community. I desire to prepare the campers for the spiritual battles they will face in the world, and I want to make them able to spread God s word. Joel Schaefer - Columbia, Battalion 6831, Age 16, 1st year on staff. I have been going to Camp Hemlock since I was seven years old. Many of my fondest memories from elementary school are from the weeks at Hemlock. I always looked up to the high school staff as examples of what a godly young man should be. I want to give the campers a great experience at camp and be an example for them of a godly young man. Kurtis Winkler - Forcey Memorial, Battalion 555, Age 14, 1st year on staff. I am here on staff this summer because I want to serve and grow closer to the Lord. I want to help the campers to grow closer to Jesus while having fun and I want them to have a personal relationship with Jesus. 8
